Jan. 18, 2016 1st Cast Meeting! 3 – 5:30 pm
Note! You only need to choose ONE of the first two audition sessions! Sign up for
Session 1 or Session 2…not both!
Then, watch for your name on the Call Back list posted outside the General Music
Room!
HREK The Musical, Jr.
Auditions for this year’s Silver Lake School musical High School Musical will be held on Tuesday,
Jan. 12 and Wednesday, Jan. 13 from 3 – 5:00 pm. Call backs will be posted outside the General
Music Room before school on Thursday, with callback auditions being held after school that day from
3 – 6 pm. If your name appears on the call-back list, you need to let your parents know RIGHT AWAY
so you can arrange rides from school when you are done. The cast will be posted on the Call Board
on Friday, Jan 15th at the end of the day. There will be no meeting after school that day. What do you need to prepare for your audition?
Pick up an audition packet In the Library. There are monologues to choose from. Pick the one you think you will perform with the most expression. You can indicate parts you are interested in…but we will put you where we see your talents can shine!
Memorize your monologue. Add movement to the part – gestures, facial expression and vocal expression. Take it slow! Most people speak too quickly when performing their monologues.
Be prepared to sing “Happy Birthday!” But do it as a performance! Don’t just scoot through it…really sing out. Show us what your voice can do! Don’t worry if you think you can’t sing. We’re really looking for your stage presence. Just do your best! We can teach you to sing. That’s what we do!!
Sign up for an audition time outside the General Music Room. If you have a later time and need to wait for your turn, you must have something to work on quietly as you wait. Please plan on being picked up once your audition time is over. Sign up early to avoid any conflicts.
Come to the General Music room for your audition. Be on time.
On the day of your audition we will teach you a short movement sequence. You will perform this at your audition. Don’t worry about your dancing ability. Again, we’re looking for your stage presence and how quickly you learn a sequence.
You will audition for Mrs. Johnson, Mrs. Carlstein, Ms. Nelson, Elizabeth Hannan and Grace Johnson. What do you need to bring with you when you audition? The following items:
A snack and water. Not soda…WATER.
Your monologue script … just so you can practice!
Wear comfy clothes and shoes – no flip flops, crocs, high heels, or sandals.
Bring a positive attitude YOU CAN DO THIS!!
Some homework or a book to read to stay busy while you wait for your turn!
These items will be handed in at your audition:
Recent picture of yourself – can be school picture or a snapshot attached to your….
Your completed information sheet.
Conflict Calendar – already filled out and signed. You may not be needed all of the days you see on the calendar, this is just an estimate to help you plan.
If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Carlstein.

AUDITION MONOLOGUES
For Men or Ladies:
STORYTELLERS: Once upon a time, there was a little ogre named Shrek, who lived with his parents in a bog by a
tree.It was a pretty nasty place, but he was happy because ogres like nasty. On his birthday, the little ogre’s
parents sat him down to talk, just as all ogre parents had for hundreds of years before.
PINOCCHIO: Dumped in a swamp! Man, I tell ya, sometimes being a fairytale creature sucks pine sap! Life is
disappointing! Woe is what I know. Outed by my nose, that’s how it goes for poor, poor Pinocchio!
For Men:
DONKEY: Nobody’s fine on their own! Not when you look like we do! Hey! Didn’t you hear what they said?
Man, we gotta join forces. Otherwise they’re gonna lock me up! And I can NOT go back in a cage! Woo-Hoo,
Alright! Now THAT’S what I ‘m talkin’ about Shrek and Donkey , two stalwart friends, of on a whirlwind big city
adventure!
FARQUAAD: And now, good people of Duloc, the moment you’ve all been waiting for! The raffle drawing to
determine who will have the honor of setting forth to rescue the lovely Princess Fiona from the fiery keep of
the dragon. I shall make Fiona my Queen and Duloc will finally have the perfect king!
SHREK: For your information there’s a lot more to ogres than most people think. Ogres….are like onions.
Onions have layers, Ogres have layers, you get it?! We both have layers! Ogres are NOT like parfaits. You
know? This may turnout to be the longest day of my entire life!
For Ladies:
FIONA: I can’t think about Shrek. Not now. I’m a princess after all, and look at me! I mean really, who could
ever love a beast so hideous and ugly? Princess and ugly don’t go together. That’s why I can’t stay here with
Shrek. My only chance to live happily ever after is to marry my one true love.
WICKED WITCH: Look here Ogre. I’m gonna spell it out for ya. You’re the only one tough enough to stand up
to that no-good flim-flammer Farquaad.
DULOC ANNOUNCER: And now good people of Duloc, …here’s the man who made it all happen! That towering
colossus of moxie! Loooooooord Farquaad!
Select one monologue to memorize and perform for your audition.

Student Conflict Calendar
Print student name: __________________________________________
Please read and sign below….. On the following pages you will find a basic for the months we will be rehearsing
“SHREK.” As with any activity, it is important to know any conflicts that students may have
with rehearsals and performances. Please put an X on the days that you have conflicts with
this schedule at this time. We realize that this is life and changes will occur, but we need to
get a grasp of cast availability.
Understand that we are committed to having the highest level of performance that we
can give. To do this, we need every actor and actress committed to being at rehearsals and
performances and doing their very best. If we feel that a student cannot give the commitment
that is needed, we may cast them in a smaller part, or choose not to cast them at all. We
certainly want the best for everyone involved and will take that into consideration when
deciding our cast. This form MUST be handed in at the time of your audition. Failure to do so
may prevent you from getting a part in this year’s musical. Please be sure to look the form
over carefully and sign as indicated. Remember that this is a basic schedule. Specific scenes
will be indicated in our final Rehearsal Calendar. We will sometimes work in small groups or
with specific scenes so it is a given that you will not be needed for ALL of these dates. Any
changes in the schedule will be announced to the cast as expediently as possible. Cast
members will receive a more comprehensive rehearsal schedule at the first full cast meeting.
I have reviewed the Conflict Schedule, and indicated the conflicts I have at this time. I understand that if I
have too many conflicts, it will affect how or if I am cast in the show.
