Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Hopefully, you were able to read my letter to the parish in the bulletin (also posted on our parish Facebook page) outlining the most recent changes to our virus-related protocols. Here is a quick summary in case you missed it:

1 – Your safety is still and will always be our top priority. At the beginning of the pandemic, we followed CDC guidance, i.e., we “followed the science” to keep everyone safe. We continue to follow CDC recommendations.

2 – Masks are no longer strictly required. The Bishop highly encourages them for anyone not fully vaccinated; but he recognizes that, according to the CDC, fully vaccinated people do not need to wear them or maintain physical distancing (see CDC statement, May 16, 2021). Pews will no longer be blocked off.

3 – Confessions have returned to the confessionals inside the church building. Anyone desiring a confession outside of the confessional, please just let one of the priests know – we will be happy to accommodate you.

4 – Those wishing to receive Holy Communion on the tongue may do so at any time. This is always allowed by the Church.

5 – The Bishop does not wish the return of a “full-on” Sign of Peace just yet. So, outside of your household unit, recall that the Sign of Peace can be accomplished with a smile, perhaps a wave, and the words, “Peace be with you!”

What was not included in my letter but is very important is that, beginning with the evening Mass on June 5, the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi), the general dispensation from attending Mass will come to an end. This means that for most people, the obligation to attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days comes back into effect. (See the Bishop’s letter in this bulletin describing individual dispensations “for those who are still at risk of grave illness and for their caretakers.”

In other news, very soon our parish rectory will welcome a retired priest, Msgr. William Gomes, who comes to us from the Diocese of Rockville Center, New York. Msgr. Gomes prefers to be called either “Msgr. Willie” or “Father Willie,” whichever you prefer. Msgr. Willie comes to us originally from India, but has served in the USA since 1975. He is a delightful man, and we look forward to his ministry not only in our parish, but in the surrounding parishes of our deanery and diocese.

Let us pray for each other! Father Wilson

Padre Wilson

This Week’s Scripture Readings

Act of Spiritual Communion

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

God of power and mercy, you destroy war and put down earthly pride. Banish violence from our midst and wipe away our tears, that we may all deserve to be called your sons and daughters. Grades 4K—5

Mrs. Mary Ellen Jackson [email protected]; Phone: 803.642.2676

Dear Parents of K – 5th graders 1. May challenge – get to know and imitate Mary. This Sunday we celebrate the Most Holy Trinity. Pope Benedict said “The Virgin Mary, in her docile humility, became the handmaid of divine love: she accepted the Father's will and conceived the Son by the power of the Holy Spirit. In her the Almighty built a temple worthy of him and made her the model and image of the Church, mystery and house of communion for all human beings. May Mary, mirror of the Blessed Trinity, help us to grow in faith in the Trinitarian mystery.” This week talk about Mary’s relationship with each of the persons in the Trinity. Talk about how each Christian – each person in your family – is a Temple of the Holy Spirit, and what that means in the life of each member of the family. 2. Continue working on your CCD/Catechism books 3. Looking Ahead: Totus Tuus week is July 26-30. More information will be in the bulletin closer to this exciting catechetical program for youth in grades 1 – 6. Older volunteers (7th grade – adults) are needed as well. * *Interested in hosting two missionaries for the week? Contact Mary Ellen at [email protected]

Grados Kinder a 5º

Sra.

Friday’s Time with Teresa

We moved back to St. Michael Hall! Join us as we read and discuss The Autobiography of St. Teresa of Jesus (Teresa of Avila). Teresa writes with great honesty about the spiritual life. For more information, contact Mary Ellen Jackson at 803.642.2676 or [email protected]

Bringing the faith into the home, The

Domestic Church

Tomorrow, Monday May 31 is the Feast of the Visitation. We celebrate the visit of the very young pregnant Mary to the older, pregnant, Elizabeth (who had been infertile). Try to attend 5:30pm Mass. Visit Old St. Mary’s to look at the Visitation window. Search for pictures on the internet, and talk about the differences. Know any pregnant women? Send one a card, or visit and bring a gift. Pray for all pregnant women. Also pray for those who suffer with infertility. Find a creative way to celebrate this feast – and send a picture for the bulletin.

2021 — the Year of St. Joseph

St. Francis de Sales: “What a dignity to be the guardian of our Lord, and, not only that, but to be even his reputed father, to be the husband of his most holy Mother!” St. Madeline Sophie Barat: “The two greatest personages who ever lived on this earth subjected themselves to [St. Joseph].” Something to think about: We sometimes have a hard time doing what we are asked – especially when we think we have a better idea on how to do things. We also have a hard time being corrected. Jesus “was obedient to” Mary and Joseph (Luke 2:51), even as he grew up!

The Holy Family Wants to

Visit Your Family

St. Mary’s has a traveling statue and the Holy Family would like to stay at your home for a week. Your family can get the statue at Sunday Mass and return it the next week. Contact Mary Ellen Jackson: [email protected] or 803.642.2676.

That Man Is You (TMIY)

For Catholics, the Mass is probably the most familiar part of the Faith. But sometimes, familiarity makes us take things for granted or prevents us from going deeper. Join the men of St. Mary’s as we walk through the Mass with Bishop Robert Barron in a new program June 4th and continuing every two at 7:00-8:00am in Mother Teresa Hall.

With Bishop Barron as our guide, we will see how the Mass brings us out of the fallen world and into the heavenly realm. We’ll come to realize that the Mass is the most privileged and intimate encounter with our Lord, Jesus Christ here on earth. Come and see that there is more to the Mass than you ever realized!
