Ordinary Time

Last Sunday, we ended our Easter season with the So-lemnity of Pentecost. We transitioned back to what we call Ordinary Time. We call this Ordinary Time not because there is nothing special about it— in fact, every Sunday is as special as Easter Sunday, because every celebration of the Holy Eucharist is a moment to receive the grace the Lord has won for us through His passion, death and resurrection. Unlike the various seasons wherein there is a distinc-tive character, such as the mystery of the Incarnation during the Advent/Christmas seasons, and the Paschal Mystery during the Lent/Easter seasons, Ordinary Time focuses on the entire mystery of Christ— His life, works, and teachings. This is a season wherein the Church invites us to grow in our relationship with Jesus, through our encounters with Him in His Word and His Body and Blood. The color of the priests’ vestments is green to signify growth— growth in our spiritual life, and in our knowledge and love for God. With this, may I remind you of the importance of celebrating the Holy Mass eve-ry Sunday, even during Ordinary Time. May I invite everyone to make this a Special Season of Growth in God’s Grace. Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity

During Ordinary Time, there are certain solemnities of the Lord that we celebrate, like the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (next Sunday), the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus (the Friday after the Second Sunday after Pente-cost) and Christ the King (end of the Liturgical Year). Today, we celebrate one of these solemnities called the Most Holy Trinity. This is the central mystery of our

Christian faith and life. It is a mystery hidden from the full comprehension of our human mental capacities, but a truth regarding the identity of God. And it requires faith to accept it. Whenever we make the sign of the cross “in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit”, we profess our faith in the Holy Trinity. In the Creed that we recite every Sunday, we acknowledge our belief in a God who is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. At times, we take this for granted, but these are simple ways wherein we profess our faith in and acceptance of the Trinitarian God. I would like to propose for us two points we can learn from this mystery. First, ONE- EQUAL IN DIGNITY. Just as there is One God, we remember, as baptized Catholics, that we all share the same dignity as children of God and that we are all equally important in God’s eyes. Regardless of who we are, we are all equally loved by God. Second, THREE- UNITY IN DIVERSI-TY. Just as there are Three Persons in God, diverse in their way of being present and showing us their love, so too are we all given diverse gifts by the Holy Spirit, which we call charisms. All of us are gifted with differ-ent talents that together can contribute to the building up of the Kingdom of God here on earth, the Church. With this, I invite everyone to love one another as broth-ers and sisters, regardless of age, ethnicity, gender, or economic standing. Also, I invite everyone to discover their God-given charism and help in building up our faith community, the Church. - Fr. Pete

The Archdiocesan Annual Appeal 2019 has begun! This is the best opportunity we at Saint Anne will find to share in all the good work that our Archdiocese does— from helping those in need to supporting our youth, our seniors, our schools, and our seminarians. This year Saint Anne has been called on to meet the goal of rais-ing $50,288.60 for this worthy effort. Please give what-ever you can. All money raised in excess of the goal returns to Saint Anne. Brochures are in the pews.

Religious Freedom Week: June 22 – June 29 The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops encourages Catholics to pray and act in support of religious liberty at home and abroad during Religious Freedom Week 2019, which begins on June 22, the Feast of Saints Thomas More and John Fisher, and ends on June 29, the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul. Archbishop Joseph Kurtz states: “Catholics face challenges both in our current political climate of polarization and within the Church. Christian child welfare institutions and Catholics in public life are encountering significant ob-stacles to their work, while our brothers and sisters in places like Nigeria suffer violent persecution. We want to build solidarity and to encourage Catholics to persist in the struggle to advance the kingdom of God by find-ing hope in Jesus Christ.” Resources of all kinds, for parishes, schools, and individuals, can be found at sfarchdiocese.org/freedom For more info, please contact Valerie Schmalz, Director of Human Life and Dignity 415-614-5571 [email protected]

New Beginnings: A Catholic Divorce Ministry The Archdiocese strives to make known Christ's heal-ing love, so that all who suffer from separation or divorce might experience new life, reconciliation, and restoration, and by meeting people in a similar position may find help to rebuild their own lives. We also recog-nize that separated and divorced people are not mere recipients of the Church's compassion; they are also ministers of that compassion. Through their vulnerabil-ity, suffering, courage, faithfulness, and patient endur-ance they bear witness to Christ and his redeeming grace in the world. New Beginnings Ministry offers a support group on the First and Third Wednesdays, 7:00 pm, at St. Brendan Church, Parish Center, 29 Rocka-way Ave., San Francisco. Contact Diana (415-929-0999 / [email protected]) or Martin (650-739-6446) for more information.

Pro-Life Leadership Event : Sunday, June 23 through Saturday, June 29, Sacramento, California Students for Life of America (SFLA) invites youth 18 years & older to be part of its West Coast Stop Campus Abortions Mission Trip. Participants will spend a week in Sacramento working to stop Senate Bill 24, which would require all public universities to provide access to abortion by medication with RU-486, the abortion pill. SFLA will train participants and engage in all five pillars of pro-life activism: lobbying legislators, touring preg-nancy centers, rallying in front of the capitol, sidewalk counseling, and hosting pro-life displays. Chemical abortions are used to kill an unborn child up to ten weeks old. Cost for the week is $100 per participant, which includes travel, hotel, and food stipend. California Bishops Urge Action against Senate Bill 360 Threatening Confession — The California Catho-lic Conference of Bishops (CCC) asks California Catho-lics to pay attention to the progress of Senate Bill 360 in the state legislature and to express to legislators their disagreement with a proposed law that would require priests to violate the seal of sacramental Con-fession.
