A Word About Selection for the Diaconate The selection of diaconate applicants for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles complies with the document of the Congregation for Catholic Education Basic Norms for the Formation of Permanent Deacons, as well as the National Directory for the Formation, Ministry and life of Permanent Deacons in the Unit-ed States. The National Directory describes some of the qual-ities that a man should have to apply for the diaconate. Burgers & Bikes Many of our luncheon clients at the Giving Bank, most of whom live on the streets, are dependent on their bicycles for transportation. Unfortunately, our clients do not have the means or knowledge to fi x a fl at tire or do other simple bike repairs, so they simply abandon their bike when there is a problem with it. In order to assist our clients we are hosting a bicycle workshop Friday June 23, 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Our goals are to teach our clients how to maintain their bicycles, while providing answers to any questions asked. We plan on having information on available resources as well. If you would like to volunteer or make donations (such as bicycle parts) for this event, please call us @ 626.403.6140.
Mass in Recognition of All ImmigrantsToday, June 18th at 3:30 p.m.
Archbishop José H. Gomez encourages all parishioners to attend this Mass in support of our immigrant brothers and sisters. Third Annual Connolly Golf ClassicSave the Date November 10, 2017
The Second Annual Holy Family Connolly Classic was a great success! We had 130 golfers at Brookside and the scramble format allowed golfers of all skill levels to participate and have fun. The day wrapped up with a festive BBQ on the Brookside Patio and the raffl e and silent auction raised additional funds for our Holy Family Playground Project and Scholarship effort.
We are thankful to our generous sponsors, dedicated golf committee and volunteers who stepped up in support of the school. We look forward to the Connolly Classic being a tradition and community building day for years to come. What a great day for Holy Family School and see you this year at the 3nd Annual Connolly Classic on November 10, 2017!

Religious Education Religious education is a lifelong process that guides the baptized into “intimacy with Jesus Christ” (Catechesi Tradendae). Religious education is more than formal instruction; it is a conscious pathway to the development of the whole person as a model of Christ and permeates all facets of life in a Catholic community. Its foundations are laid in the home and built in partnership within the parish community.Th e ministry of Religious Education is an entrusted participant in this collaboration, serving the mission and expressing the love of Christ to our parish children! It is the goal of our parish, directors in formation, catechists and volunteers to work diligently with parents to encourage, support, strengthen and enhance their work in the formation of their children for the Kingdom of God.

Kindred SpiritsParish life can be strongly marriage and family oriented with few opportunities for single adults to feel comfortable at social gatherings or in volunteer capacities. Kindred Spirits was formed to create comfortable ways for single adults over 40 to get to know each other, and to build supportive friendships that enhance their participation in parish life as well as create meaningful connections in their lives outside of church. Truly great friendships have evolved through sharing in social events, volunteer projects, and spiritual enrichment activities together. We attend the Saturday vigil Mass each fi rst Saturday, followed by going to a diff erent local restaurant. To notify us of someone in the parish who is sick, please follow these procedures:
1. Call the Pastoral Center, Monday to Sunday if the sick person needs to be visited by a priest.
2. You will be asked a few important questions by the staff person answering your call, as a form must be fi lled out. Hospital? Home? Communion? Person’s home address and phone? Parishioner or not? Elderly? Name on intercessions?
3. Please ask the staff person to notify Mary Ternan.

Weekend Pickup Team Members: (van or truck required) 1. Saturday a.m. pickup in Alhambra, and delivery to Giving Bank. 2. Sunday aft ernoon pick- up in Alhambra, and delivery to the Giving Bank.
Wanted: CROP Walk Recruiter, responsible for recruiting walkers to participate in the Pasadena CROP Walk that will be held later this Fall. Funds from this event fi ght hunger globally as well as locally. Our Giving Bank is one of fi ve local food pantries that receives funds from this very worthwhile event.

Serra ClubTh e Serra Club of Los Angeles invites guests and prospective members to join them for fellowship and affi rmation. First established in 1934 in Seattle, Washington, and now world-wide with 20,000 members in 36 countries, the Serra Club is the lay vocation arm of the Church. Th eir mission is simple. Volunteer Opportunities
Working with Our Clients: Flexible schedules are available weekdays between 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. to work directly with Villa’s adults and seniors in our Adult Day Program. Spaces may also be available to volunteer with Villa’s children at Villa Esperanza School in Pasadena.Working in Our Offi ces: Regular schedule and “as needed” shift s are available weekdays 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. to work in our offi ces. Projects include organizational and clerical tasks, and occasional hands-on creative work.To volunteer you must be 15 years of age and complete an application and have a one-hour orientation. Volunteers who want to work with our clients must provide proof of a current TB test taken in the last four years with a negative result.
