Good afternoon everyone and welcome to todays game. Also I would like to welcome the players, staff and fans of Northwood football club to Haywood Way this afternoon.
I think Northwood will be another tough test for us and there are no easy games at this level so we will have to perform if we want to get the win. I’m sure they will be also looking to finish their season on a high so this will be no easy task.
Tuesday was a great learning curve for us, we took a young side up to Rushden and got the opportunity to have a look at what it takes to be the best side in the league, the score really was irrelevant, at the moment they're at a completely different level to us and it showed.
Since taking over I have been able to see exactly what it takes and what’s needed to compete and win at this level, I don’t think anyone is under any
illusions of the task in hand and it’s going to take effort from the management/ players, the board and the excellent volunteers we have to make the club a success next season.
On the management side we will look to get players in early and set standards/ levels that are required for southern league football.
Enjoy the game

05 Aylesbury FC vs Northwood
NorthwoodA bumpy season mirroring our own has been ridden out by the wood, with the depearture of Simon Lane and Heracleous and Boateng steadying the ship.
The departure of Burgess after four and a half years ago following a disappointing season led to an extensive search for his replacement, undertaken by chairman Ian Barry.
His replacement was confirmed on 17 May 2017, with Simon Lane taking the hot-seat. Lane's career in non-league football was curtailed by injury, but he arrived with a wealth of experience at a higher level. Lane had previously served as manager at Berkhamsted Town and Windsor & Eton, coached at Maidenhead United, while most recently
serving as Director of Football and manager with Wingate & Finchley.
Lane surprisingly left his post in January 2018 to move to league counterparts Egham Town. Assistant Jake Heracleous took temporary charge until March 2018 before Gordon Boateng was appointed until the end of the season.

LAST TIME WE META look back to a hard fought win in North London thanks to a goal from FC hero Brian Haule.
November 25th 2017
There were times in the game where the Moles needed to exercise caution but to a man, they were never really in great danger from a misfiring Woods side.
The opening chance fell to Brian Haule and he was unlucky to see his flicked header zip just wide. Jordan Jenkins and Ash Jenkins were then on hand to thwart the threat from the dangerous Jermain Osei as the game opened at a bright pace. The only goal of the game arrived on 11 minutes and what a goal it was. Ty Deacon attacked on the right and his lofted cross found Haule. With the ball almost behind him, Brian swivelled and shot in one fluid motion giving Brendan Hazlett no chance.
The game was ticking over nicely by now as Ash Jenkins saved bravely at Osei’s feet after the striker had been fed by Mahlondo Martin. Aston Goss has been a shining light in FC’s recent struggles, he was also a thorn in Northwood’s side all afternoon, and he played a delicious ball to Brian Haule, which the target man was unfortunate not to bring under full control. In the next move, Tayshan Hayden Smith suffered a moment of hesitation and his chance was lost when he should have taken a shot. Martin was next in the FC box but his attacking compatriots had neither the thought nor the energy to meet his teasing cross.
The Moles finished the half in the ascendency when a delicate cross into the Woods box saw Man of the Match Ben Stevens unfortunately make just minimal contact as he came under pressure from the home defence.
The entertainment continued after the break. Kerran Lataille’s slide rule cross should have been met by a teammate and this was followed by a real opportunity for Woods to equalise. On 52 minutes, Hayden Smith broke clear and as he delicately tried to lift the ball over Ash Jenkins, the FC stopper bravely saved down low. Osei then had a half chance as the home side stepped up a gear. He found space within the box but then found the angle too acute and he could only hit the side netting.
Lataille was enjoying himself as he picked up the pieces from breakaway FC attacks. The forward could have increased his side’s lead on 64 minutes but he could only see his effort hit a defender’s legs. Aston Goss also witnessed his blast fail to penetrate a packed defence. Ty Deacon played in the umpteenth quality cross of the
afternoon and again it was misread as FC became more reticent to push men forward.
Woods’ Harry Newman caused Ash Jenkins to perform another valiant save at his feet before the home side’s best chance of a leveller. Jordan Jenkins and partner Derek Feyi had been masters of all they surveyed but a momentary lapse of concentration saw the ball fall to Newman yet with the goal at his mercy, the midfielder contrived to blast the ball over the bar when hitting the target appeared far simpler. A freekick deep in injury time from just outside the box had hearts fluttering but the wall held just in time to hear the referee’s final whistle and to herald FC’s celebrations.

League Round-up
13 Aylesbury FC vs Northwood
Back-to-back defeats have condemned Cambridge City to finishing either fifth or sixth in the Evo-Stik League South East, scuppering their hopes of a home tie in the play-off semi-finals.
And ironically, it was a former player in striker Andrew Phillips who came back to haunt City on Monday night when he grabbed a 90th minute winner for Barton Rovers to lift them off second-bottom spot.
Marlow won 2-1 at Honeycroft against Uxbridge in the evening`s other game where Charlie Brown after 21 min-utes and Kelvin Bossman just past the hour-mark for the visitors proved enough, despite Cole Brown`s 72nd minute reply for the Reds.
Hitchin Town and Dorchester Town shared a 0-0 draw at Top Field in the evening`s only Premier fixture.
Both AFC Rushden & Diamonds and Beaconsfield Town secured promotion from the Evo-Stik League South East on Tuesday night.
In front of a crowd of 546 on a rainy evening at Hayden Road, a Ben Farrell brace and one from Joel Gyasi gave the Diamonds a 3-1 interval lead against second-bottom Aylesbury FC – Davide Pobbe having reduced the deficit for the Moles in the 35th minute.
Farrell completed his hat-trick just past the hour-mark and then, after skipper Liam Dolman had added a fifth 2 minutes later, Ben Diamond bagged a brace in the 73rd and 79th minutes to make it a comprehensive win.
Beaconsfield beat AFC Dunstable, who are assured a top six spot, 4-0 at Holloways Park.
Tony Mendy gave the home side a 10th minute lead that a Danny Murphy own goal doubled 9 minutes later, with Mendy making it 3-0 at half-time with his second goal on 38 minutes.
Lee Barney scored the only goal of the second period with 20 minutes to go.
All eyes now will be on Beaconsfield`s game in hand tomorrow at Egham Town, who lost 2-1 at the Runnyme-de Stadium to already-doomed Arlesey Town, for whom Keanu Williams bagged a brace in the 14th and 44th minutes, Laurie Diakiesse replying.
Hartley Wintney`s outside hopes of nicking the title took a terminal blow with a 1-0 defeat at Hillgrounds against Kempston Rovers, whose Jake Newman scored the only goal just past the half-hour mark.
Elsewhere on Tuesday, Kier Dickson and Evans Kouassi scored in the final 2 minutes to secure a 2-0 win for Northwood at Chestnut Avenue against Hanwell Town, while Marley Ridge and Sam Pearce scored in either half to secure Moneyfields` home victory over Ashford Town (Middx).

CHANGING FACE OF MATCH OFFICIALS
Previously there has been a perception of who a referee is and what they look like – now they come from all walks of life and backgrounds. We meet our new Level 3 referees every July. You could line those 90-100 people up in any walk of life and you wouldn’t necessarily pick them out as referees. They are young, many from BAME backgrounds and more and more females – probably not what you’d expect 20 or 30 years ago. People are really seeing refereeing as a career where they can really achieve. This could either be at the elite level, where it can be a full-time career, or taking charge of games in front of big crowds, even in Non-League football. People really aspire to take charge of important games where they can have a really positive influence.Every game matters to players, managers, clubs and supporters – but also referees. If they have ambition to progress, they know they also need to perform. One bad decision could change your season. Just like promotion and relegation for clubs, it’s the same for officials. For every game someone referees, there are two marks – one from each club. There are also observers out watching and that is put into an Observers Merit List. The two are compared and more often than not, are not too dissimilar. If you’re showing in a season you are consistently one of the best referees, you have a good chance of promotion. It’s much like a player culture. If you prove you are good enough you will get an opportunity at the next level. Why should you be held back if you’re the best National League North referee even if you are in your early 20s? Similarly if you’re 52 – just because you have less active years in front of you, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be able to progress up. It gives service to competition and also rewards the referee.
FROM NON-LEAGUE TO THE WORLD CUP FINALThe National League System structure in this country provides an unbelievable learning experience for
English match officials. As a country we are blessed we have this 150-year-old structure that has effected itself now into such a strong Pyramid. In the ninth tier of football in this country can mean refereeing in front of 1,000 people. In other countries the ninth tier could be a local park. So it’s real credit to the structure, the clubs, the teams and the players for providing such good quality for referees to get such good experience at what can be an early stage of their career. You grow with the Pyramid. We always use Howard Webb as the example. Like every referee we now see in the Premier League, he came through the National League System. He was in charge of Northern Counties East games, the Northern Premier League and so on. In 2010, he took charge of the World Cup Final between Spain and Netherlands.
INCREASE IN APPOINTMENTS AT STEP 3 & 4With the additional Step 3&4 divisions being introduced into the National League System next season, it brings an increase in the amount of appointments that will have to be made. The appointments at those levels are made by the FA. We have a Northern Appointments Officer and a Southern Appointments Officer, who make a vast amount of appointments and re-appointments each season. A Level 3 referee, who takes charge of Step 3 and 4 matches, will on average have between 30 and 40 appointments per season. Some will also act as assistants on the National League as well as the National League North and South divisions. But just taking Steps 3 and 4, it will increase by two or three games per referee. That might not sound much, but if you times that by 330 Level 3 referees it soon adds up.Every April and May, we have a calculation that looks at the amount of fixtures we’ll have the next season, geography, the average availability time of any Level 3 referee – work commitments, the average injury time, availability over Bank Holidays, Christmas and
17www.aylesburyfc.com
New Year – and gives us a number of how many referees we need.
EDUCATION AND DEVELOPMENT
This is a side that, naturally, people don’t always see. We at The FA, alongside the PGMOL (Professional Game Match Officials Limited), have made a vow to offer more training, education and development for match officials. Not only does it service the game at Steps 4, 3, 2 and 1, it’s also planning for the Football League and Premier League officials of the future. So, who is going to be the next Howard Webb refereeing the World Cup final?
FA CORE (FA Centre of Refereeing Excellence) is comprised of around 300 referees and 50 performance coaches. A number are referees at the top level while others are retired. It is designed to enhance the training and development given to the officials identified as a having potential to progress. If you’ve got someone on the phone three or four times a week, your chance of becoming a better referee is enhanced. Hopefully leading to better chances of promotion.
Over the past three years in England we’ve also taken on specialisation – people are now focusing on being a referee or an assistant referee. By people making that commitment, it says to The FA that we need to invest in them. Previously people may have wanted to keep their status as a Level 3 referee and take charge of, say, Wingate & Finchley, but only so they could run the line at Leeds United the week after. Nowadays it’s, ‘I’m refereeing at Wingate & Finchley because I want to’.
IMPROVING RELATIONSHIPS
Previously a referee has been seen as out on their own, working in silos. When you actually sit down and explain to clubs what we’re trying to do and the positive impact the work with referees has, they are very receptive to it. For the first time this year, we’ve offered visits to all clubs at Step 1 to 4. A member of The FA or PGMOL will go and talk about what’s
topical, what laws have changed and explain to clubs how they can really help themselves.
It’s also an opportunity for clubs to offer their thoughts on things they may be confused on or bits of law that they have queries on.
We also attend the National League, Isthmian League, Northern Premier League and Southern League pre-season meetings. It’s vital there is a two-way relationship.
