How’s your prayer life? Most times that question catches us off-guard. It’s a difficult question to answer, isn’t it? That’s because we don’t have much to compare it. No two people pray exactly the same way. We’re all different. Our prayer with God is very personal and very individualized. We do come together and pray as a com-munity in common, and different people may share some common elements in their personal prayer, but exactly the same? No. Our God is a personal God to whom we all relate in a most personal and unique way. For the longest time (and without admitting it) I would compare my prayer to others, always questioning if I was “doing it right?” That’s a trap with no escape. I pray like I pray, and so do you. Here’s a rule of thumb for personal prayer given to me by Rick Friedrichs, my former spiritual director – Prayer takes time and effort and persistence. Results and progress are not immediately noticed. The peaks will be euphoric, and seemingly fleeting. The dry spells may be painful, but are where the deepest bonds with God are de-veloped. Is it life nurturing, nourishing, sustaining, and liberating? The only wrong way to pray is not to pray!

Becoming Catholic

The annual process for welcoming adults into the Catholic Church is under way. It is a spiritual journey that brings men and women to the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist at the Easter Vigil and into the Body of Christ forever. The process is especially for persons who are: 1) Unbaptized; 2) Baptized in another Christian church; or 3) Catholic adults who have not been Confirmed. Prelimi-nary meetings have begun. Check the website for more information or stop by the Parish Office for an information sheet.
