During the Crusades, Muslims had captured Jerusalem, which was holy to both them and the Christians and was shared by both groups. The Christians definitely wanted the land back, so they launched the Crusades, which was a series of wars to take back Jerusalem. The Muslim Turks were too powerful, and the Christians were defeated. To be an explorer, you would need to be brave, resourceful, and driven. As an explorer, you are traveling into an unknown land. You would have to be brave, to even consider going to place that no one has gone before. You would also need to be resourceful, because after a long voyage, you may not have many, if any, supplies left, so you would have to be able to work with what the earth has. When you explore, you face many hardships, so you have to be driven because it would be easy to give up and lose hope.

In 1692, several girls and young women in Salem, Massachusetts, claimed that the devil had taken control of them. They also accused 3 townspeople of being witches. Trials were held to determine if the accused townspeople were really witches. This resulted in Salem Witch Trials. The Massachusetts authorities ordered 20 men and women to be executed. Some historians believed that the witch trials reflected colonists fears about the political changes that were taking place at that time. During this time the accused felt that under the assumption that anyone who denied the existence of witches or defended the accused must be one of them, and were brought to trial.
