Light House invites you to join the Saturday audiences at the New York Metropolitan Opera in 12 live high definition transmissions from the prestigious 2010-11 season, starting in October with new productions of Das Rheingold and Boris Godunov, and ending in May 2011 with a new production of the second opera in the Wagner Ring Cycle, Die Walküre.

How to find us:

Light House is situated within the historic Chubb Buildings in Wolverhampton City Centre just 2 minutes walk from the rail and bus stations and 5 minutes walk from Metro. Free car parking is available adjacent to the buildings at weekends.

Please note: running times are estimated and casting is subject to change.

Ticket prices:

2010 performances: £17.50 Adult £12 Under 15s

2011 performances: £18 Adult £12.50 Under 15s

Encore performances: £14.50 Adult £7.50 Under 15s(Encore performances are recordings of the live operas)

Pre-ordered food can be served up until 30mins before each performance.

There will be a limited food menu available on the night for those who have not pre-ordered food.

Puccini’s wild-west opera had its world premiere in 1910 at the Met. Now, on the occasion of its centennial, all-American diva Deborah Voigt sings the title role of the “girl of the golden west,” starring opposite Marcello Giordani. Nicola Luisotti conducts.

NIXON IN CHINASat 12 Feb, 6pm - New Production John Adams conducts the Met premiere of his most famous opera which deals with the meeting of Nixon and Mao, a mythological moment in world history and in particular American history. Acclaimed director and longtime Adams collaborator Peter Sellars makes his Met debut with this groundbreaking 1987 work, an exploration of the human truths beyond the headlines surrounding President Nixon’s 1972 encounter with Communist China. Baritone James Maddalena stars in the title role.

He vies with mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato, in the trouser role of Isolier, for the love of the lonely Countess Adèle, sung by soprano Diana Damrau. Bartlett Sher, director of the Met’s hit productions of The Barber of Seville and The Tales of Hoffmann, describes the world of the opera as, “a place where love is dangerous. People get hurt. That can be very funny and very painful. Rossini captures both - with the most beautiful love music Rossini ever wrote.”
