“A faithful, sensible servant is one to whom the master can give the responsibility of managing his other household servants and feeding them. If the master returns and finds that the servant has done a good job, there will be a reward. I tell you the truth, the master will put that servant in charge of all he owns.” Matthew 24:45-47 NLT
At Annual Conference last month, there was a DeLorean, the same type of car used in the Back to the Future movies. Standing next to the car made we wonder what it would be like if we truly had the ability to roam into the past or the future. What would it be like to see your hero in action, to witness historic events, or hear words that shaped the world? And how amazing would it be to finally see the day when flying cars become mainstream or see your great-great grandchildren with your own eyes?
In the third part of the Back to the Future franchise, Marty and Doc ended up saving a woman who would have plunged to her death. Assuming we understood the ramifications of our actions, what would it mean if we could save lives or prevent tragedies? And if changing the past were too dangerous, how could we learn from the mistakes of the past to better live our future?
Understanding the importance of our past and our future is so crucial to how we live our lives. We learn from our past and we move toward our desired future. I imagine King Solomon wished he had the ability to look into his family’s future to see how his actions were setting his children up for an epic fail, one that would divide his nation in two.
The greatest problem in Solomon’s life was that he allowed his family to wander away from God. It didn’t start as an intention movement from God. It started with one wife’s culture, then another, then another small step away from God, and, of course, his failure to spend enough time speaking and living faith into his children’s lives. The result was a civil war and two nations that struggled to understand their purpose as God’s Chosen People.
The one who understands the future and actively works to shape it has tremendous power. It is a power that we have. As part of our Fruitful Congregation Journey, we have discerned that God is calling us to dedicate the next couple of years to growing loving relationships with the children, families, and staff of Central Child Care. By sharing the Good News of Jesus and working alongside our child care partners, we have the honor of helping shape the lives of those who will craft the future. We can fill them with a love of God, a grace that strengthens them in difficult times, and a community that will forever connect them to the powerful love of our Creator.
Sometimes it doesn’t take a time machine—it just takes prayerful, willing hearts who love God, our local children and our neighborhood.

CENTRAL RECEIVES A BLOCK PARTY GRANT
Central’s Evangelism Team was chosen to receive one of five $300 Block Party Blitz
grants awarded by the Jacobsville Join-In organization. The application process
focused on Central’s commitment to develop relationships with our Jacobsville
neighbors, and to become their connection to a faith community.
Mark your Calendar: Central’s 2016 Neighborhood Block Party is Saturday, October 15, 4 – 7 p.m.
The Evangelism Team invites the entire congregation to be a part of the activities that night as we open
our doors for a neighborhood block party. More information will be coming your way.

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Jesus,
Thank you so very much for finding a place in your parking lot for us
to park the two vans for Meals on Wheels.
Being this close to Deaconess, which so graciously provides the meals,
is a God-send to our organization. You and your church provide a real
example of Christian outreach and love for those in need.
Other churches wonder how they can help. You help.

NEHEMIAH CUP
Congratulations, Central Justice Ministry!
Several Central Justice Ministry members
attended the CAJE Celebration dinner on June
11 and brought home the traveling Nehemiah
Cup! They earned this honor by demonstrating
their CAJE knowledge in a trivia contest. The cup
will be on display in the church office for 4
months when it will "travel" to St. Lucas UCC.
