D o you remember last summer when it was quite warm?

Some, who are heat sensitive, might even say it was

hot.

Do you remember making homemade ice cream on a regular basis

in days gone by? You may have added some strawberries to the mixture

for a flavor boost.

Do you ever think about how you used to catch lightning bugs?

Perhaps you put several of them in a clear jar and called it a lamp.

Do you recall going on family picnics? Maybe you had fried chicken

and apple pie as a part of the picnic.

Have you longed for the days of joy that you once knew at family

gatherings?

As you think about those questions I invite you to remember some

other things, too.

1. Remember that Jesus loves you.

2. Never forget that you are a part of a church family.

3. Reflect on the knowledge that our church family has a gathering

every Sunday and you are invited to be a part of that gathering and experi-

ence the love of God, love of family and the presence of God.

See me Sunday,

Rev. Chuck Rager

and how they will do it.

Blessed are the units who meet

beings.

The Visitation Committee has

openings for more volunteers to visit

friends at Indian Hills, Wel-Cove, at

home and anywhere else our mem-

bers may be living.

Each visitor takes a week at a

time, about every 5 to 7 weeks. The

shut-ins are highly appreciative of

any fellowship time they get with

friends from their church family.

Please consider helping out. To

volunteer or to get more information,

call Teresa Davis at 284-8262.

The auditing committee will be

needing the check registers and

bank statements for the year 2017

as soon as possible. The treasurers

in charge of all church accounts

should turn these records in to the

Church Office as soon as your

statements arrive in January.

Thanks for helping us make this

happen as smoothly as possible!

Annual Audits Visitation Committee

The object of a New Year is not that we should have a new year. It is that we should

have a new soul and a new nose; new feet, a new backbone, new ears, and new eyes.

Unless a particular man made New Year resolutions, he would make no resolutions.

Unless a man starts afresh about things, he will certainly do nothing effective.

Dear Lord, touch me with

your Spirit of truth so I

may be honest about my sins and failures. Forgive

me for treating your

covenant lightly and at

times ignoring it

completely. Help me truly seek and know forgiveness

for all the hurts I’ve

caused, for harboring ill

will and for any hardness

of heart I may have. Please renew a right spirit

within me that I may

become more Christ-like

and that my life may daily

reveal your love and light. In your name. Amen.

Answer: A (See John 8:11.)

A Bible Quiz

A. “Go, and from now on sin no more.”

B. “Not even in Israel have I found such

great faith.”

C. “Peace be with you.”

D. “Tell no one what I have done for you.”

At the start of a new year, we remember that God

continually gives us new chances. What does Jesus

say to a woman caught in adultery?

Sacred Sounds Handbell

Choir needs YOU! The Handbell

choir is an important part of the

music ministry of Ogallala FUMC!

Right now, we have more bells

than we can play because—for

various reasons—we have lost

some of our ringers. If we had

more people, we could use more

of our bells and play more

“challenging” arrangements.

We have openings for any vol-

unteers, from youth through sea-

soned adults, who would like to

“ring praises to God,” whether ex-

perienced musicians or beginners.

The choir rehearses on

Wednesdays, from 5:30 to 6:30

p.m. Rehearsals will resume after

the holidays on January 3.

Since your newsletter editor is

no longer in the church office every

day, it has become more difficult for

her to be aware of all the hustle

and bustle happening in the church

If you would like to participate,

it is important that you commit to

attend rehearsals as often as pos-

sible. Need more information?

Please call the Church Office (284

(284-1115).

During storms, emperor

penguins huddle for warmth, taking

turns at the center and on the

perimeter of the group. While

incubating eggs, up to 6,000 male

penguins have been observed

clustering for shelter against the

harsh Antarctic winter. Partially

grown chicks gather in protective “crèches” (French for “cribs”); often

surrounded by a colony of adults, these groupings ward off predators

and cold.

In stormy times, humans also need supportive groups; we can’t

survive alone. A church family allows us to take turns giving and

receiving care. Amid social upheaval, injustice, illness, natural

disaster and any loss or crisis, God invites us to gather for protection

and warmth. In the church community, we support and strengthen

one another and are empowered to go out again into the less-

sheltered world.
