Can we play with
our vegetable
Sure can. We just have to
get some selection and
transformation techniques down first
This process will use a lot of layers.
So grab the layers tab and drag it out and
then stretch it to full the height of your
screen.
We will need
the elliptical marquee
tool Zoom into the corner of the screen
so you can see the blueberry
Use the
marquee to draw a
circle around the berry. Dont get any of the white
on the outside
With the selection still active hold down the command +
Option keys and hit the J Key.
This will open the new layer dialog box and name the
new layer eye
Same trick with the
carrot, but a nasty error
message
in the layers pallet you need to make sure
you select the background layer
before trying to make a new layer. the
selected layer is blue.
use the lasso
tool to go around the edge of the
tomato. then make it a new layer
named nose
use the polygonal lasso tool to select the pasta
click on each place you want to
have a corner. when you
get back to the starting
point, a little o
will appear on the
bottom of the lasso
to go aroundcorners make little short
line segments
Make a new layer named tie
use the magnetic lasso with the grapefruit to make an ear
Just click the starting point, let
go of the button and trace somewhere close to to the
border between the fruit and the pith. click again when you close the figure. Name the
new layer ear.
use the same techniques to get a Hat and mouth layer from the mushroom and the kiwi
The real magic comes in the next steps
Use the elliptical marquee to put a loose selection around the
radishes
Hit the w key to select the magic
wand. position the cursor between the
radishes and the marquee.
Hold down the option
key and click. the area of
white will be subtracted
from the selection.
make it a new layer named eyebrow - then do the same for the head
So now all of the pieces
are on their own layers
One at a time,
select the eye layer and hit
command j then do the same for eye ball eyebrow, and the
ear
With the move tool Make
sure that auto-
select, Layer and
Show transform controls
are turned
on
grab the blue berry
the line is the bounding
box
the little squares are
the transform controls
the little cross hair
target in the middle is where you don't want
to click right now
click and drag anywhere but on
the center target to move
the layer contents
Move the blue berry on top of the
carrot
In the layers
panel move the eye copy layer to the top of the eye ball
layer. make sure the eye
copy is selected
press command + E
The blue
berry and the eyeball
are now merged into
a single layer
Do the same trick for the other
Close but we
are still missing the eyebrows
and Ears. They will take a bit more doing.
Grab an ear -
move it kind of close
with the mouse just outside of a
corner rotate the
ear
After doing a transformation you have to hit return before it will let you do anything else
Select the other ear click on edit > transform > Rotate 90 CCW Then Flip Horizontal. Move it where
it needs to go.
crop tool Click and drag to get rid of the
old veggies
