1 Kings 22:14 And Micaiah said, “As the Lord lives, whatever the Lord says to me, that I will speak.” (NKJV). In our increasingly relativistic world, Christians are encouraged to lay biblical convictions aside. We are told, “Don’t say that _____ is a sin, you might offend someone.” Well, I want you to know, that I am offend-ed that someone would ask me not to stand up for bibli-cal principles! It seems that the greatest sin someone can commit in our current culture is to take a stand, to have convictions. Murder someone and say you are sorry, all is forgiven. But stand up, and speak the truth in love about the rampant sins in our society, well, that is just unforgivable! The world in which we live has taken peer pressure to a whole new level. The prophet Micaiah was asked one day to follow the crowd, to tell the kings of Israel and Judah that they would win a war if they invaded a neighboring country. Four hundred other prophets” had told them they would have a stunning victory. But the king of Judah saw through their smoke and sunshine and asked for a true prophet. So a guard goes to get Micaiah, and when he meets him tells him what the other prophets said, and “if he knew what was good for him, he would agree.” The ratio of four hundred to one was I am sure at the very least unsettling. Yet, Micaiah knew a princi-ple that we would do well to learn. You are always right when you are on God's side. When God leads you to say something, you have a choice, follow the crowd, or follow God. I am not saying it will be comfortable, easy, or without consequence, but it will be the right thing to do. Now, I would be lying if I told you that I have never bowed to peer pressure, real or perceived. In fact, I have done so recently. But, just because I have fallen short of the example, doesn’t mean we should lower the bar. It means that we should confess the sin, ask for-giveness, and pray for strength to stand up for what is right the next time regardless of the outcome. On the other side of this equation, do your best not to confuse your preferences with the will of God. Just because you feel like something ought to be this way or that, does not mean that those feelings came from the Lord. So in every situation, bring it to God with an open heart, and seek your answers from Him. He will lead those who seek His will.
