The Magical Maritimes: Nova Scotia
and Prince Edward Island

The coach will drop you at the train station to
board VIA Rail’s “The Ocean”. As the
train departs from Montréal, you may watch
the sun set over fertile farmlands carpeting the
southern shores of the St. Lawrence
River and the Matapédia Valley. Enjoy dinner
on your own in the dining car.
“The Ocean” covers hundreds of kilometers
while you sleep so that upon waking, your
eyes alight upon Chaleur Bay in all its misty,
early-morning glory.
Day Three—Dinner
Awake this morning to beautiful views and
watch the day roll by as you travel into
Halifax. Breakfast and lunch are on your own
in dining car.
Arrive in Halifax, Nova Scotia check into
your downtown hotel and enjoy dinner at the
hotel’s restaurant. After dinner there will be
time to explore the downtown area.
Day Four—Breakfast and dinner
After breakfast at the hotel, travel to Peggy’s
Cove. This renowned seaside-fishing village
located on a rugged coastline is dominated by
its famous lighthouses, including the only
lighthouse post office in Canada.
Day One—no meal included
After arriving in Montreal and checking into
the hotel the remainder of the day is yours to
explore downtown Montreal. Travel by taxi
into Old Montreal. Visit the restaurants,
cafes, galleries and boutiques and witness the
street performers. Dinner is on your own in
one of Montreal’s fabulous restaurants.
Day Two—breakfast and lunch
After breakfast join a local guide, board your
private motor coach and embark on a 2-1/2
hour fascinating walking/windshield tour of
the city. Witness the Notre-Dame Basilica,
Ste-Catherine Street, St-Helen Island, Mont-
Royal, St-Joseph’s Oratory, The Old Port,
Jacques Cartier and more!
Gather in Old Montreal for an included lunch
in a local’s favorite restaurant.
Visit one of the most beautifully unique
destinations in the city, Montreal’s
Botanical Gardens. With its collection of
22,000 plant species and cultivars, 10
exhibition greenhouses and some thirty
thematic gardens, the Garden ranks as one of
the world's largest and most spectacular
botanical gardens.
Day Six—Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Following a buffet breakfast in the hotel, join
a local guide and discover first-hand
why Conde Nast Magazine readers rated Cape
Breton one of the top ten most beautiful
islands in the world.
You’ll travel the 186-mile coastline, which
makes up the famous Cabot Trail. As you
learn about the history of the beautiful island,
have your camera ready for the spectacular
photo opportunities. Your travels take you
through the Cape Breton Highlands
National Park and visit the intriguing Village
of Cheticamp, famous for its crafts and
Acadian Culture.
Day Four—cont.
Enjoy lunch on your own at the Sou’Wester
Restaurant.
Lunch is served at the Liscomb Lodge in
Guysborough County. Located on the
Liscomb River, it offers a relaxing atmosphere
surrounded by breathtaking scenery.
Arrive early evening in Baddeck, home of
the Alexander Graham Bell Museum and
your home for the next two nights. Check
into your hotel with time to refresh and
rejuvenate. Dinner this evening is served in
the hotel’s restaurant. After dinner, you
have the option to attend the Ceilidh where
you will experience Cape Breton fiddle
music, song and dance. (Price for tickets is
approximately $10.00).
Tonight, join your co-travelers for an
included dinner served in traditional
Scottish style.
Day Five—Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Following breakfast in the hotel, pack your
bags and travel to the Fisherman’s Life
Museum in Head of Jeddore. From the
crackle of wood burning in the cook stove,
to the smell of the saltwater breeze, you
will experience the warmth and welcome
of Nova Scotia’s Eastern Shore in a
traditional fishing family’s home.
After lunch, travel along the famous St.
Mary’s River, known for it’s salmon
fishing and then on to Lochaber, named
after Lochaber Scotland. Arrive at the
Canso Causeway that joins the Gulf of
St. Lawrence and the Atlantic Ocean.
Follow the coastal route back to Halifax, meet
your guide for a 3 hour walking/windshield
tour of Halifax. Tour will include the
waterfront, historic downtown, and a drive
by St. Paul’s Church, the universities,
shopping and residential areas and a walk
through the Titanic Cemetery. Also visit the
Halifax Citadel National Historic Site and
take a drive through Halifax Public Gardens,
see the location of the Halifax Explosion and
the Gravesite of the Titanic victims.
Arrive in Pleasant Bay and climb aboard for a
1-1/2 hour whale-watching cruise. The
types of whales most frequently seen are Pilot,
Finback, Minke and Humpback. Hear these
magnificent creatures sing along with the
boat’s hydrophone!
In Glasgow you will visit the Prince Edward
Island Preserve Company. Taste the jams
made on the premises and have a sip of hot
tea. Experience the striking contrasts of color
and texture of Prince Edward Island
National Park with its red sand cliffs, rolling
dunes and white sand beaches. Dip your toes
in the ocean at Cavendish Beach. Stop at a
family restaurant for lunch on your own. After you check into your hotel, there will be
time at your leisure to explore Canada’s
birthplace, Charlottetown. This beautiful
town has much to offer. Witness some of the
historic sites, shop in boutiques or relax by
the water.
Dinner this evening is at the famous
Fisherman’s Wharf for a Wharf Lobster
Supper. There are plenty of selections for
landlubbers, including the 60-foot all you
can eat salad bar!
Continue along the trail to the Skyline area
and stop for a 30-minute stroll before
returning to your hotel. Enjoy dinner at a
local’s restaurant. After dinner there is
time at your leisure to walk the “boardwalk”
of the village along the Bras d’Or Lake.
Day Seven—Breakfast, lunch, dinner
After breakfast, depart Cape Breton, and
travel to Pictou via Antigonish, New Glasgow,
a quaint Scottish town. Arrive in Pictou and
enjoy lunch at one of the local’s restaurant.
After lunch, climb aboard the Northumberland
Ferry and travel across the Northumberland
Strait to Prince Edward Island, Canada’s
smallest province.
Next, stop at the MacIntosh Brook picnic
site, sit back on Pleasant Bay and enjoy your
picnic lunch.
Day Eight—Breakfast, dinner
After breakfast in the hotel, join your local
guide and head explore the beautiful island.
Begin with a tour of Charlottetown where
you will view historic churches and homes
and majestic government buildings.
Travel to Cavendish and visit Green Gables,
the setting for the Lucy Maud Montgomery
novel, “Anne of Green Gables.” Witness the
exhibits and walk down Lover’s Lane or into
the Haunted Woods. On the way back to the
hotel, stop in the quaint fishing harbor of
North Rustico.

Day Ten—Breakfast
After breakfast in the hotel, pack your bags
and begin your travels back to Halifax.
Arrive in Halifax early afternoon and board
the Via Rail for your overnight journey
back to Montreal. Have lunch and dinner
on your own in the dining car.
Day Eleven—no meals included
Breakfast is on your own in the dining car
before you arrive in Montreal. Board your
private motor coach and transfer to Dorval to
board your afternoon flights home.
Visit the Acadian Museum in Moncton. The
Museum's collection exceeds 35,000 items
and photographs and represents all aspects of
Acadian life in the past.
Next, stop at the Magnetic Hill Winery that
overlooks the city of Moncton and the
famous Magnetic Hill, Canada’s third most
visited natural tourist attraction. Enjoy
samples of local cheeses while learning the
history of this historic site that was built in
1867. Sample 6 of their award-winning
wines, varying from dry to dessert.
Once back in Charlottetown, have dinner
in an Irish Pub-style restaurant. After
dinner, you have the option to witness a
performance at the Confederation Center.

Day Nine—Breakfast, dinner
After breakfast in the hotel, check out of the
hotel and travel across the Confederation
Bridge, the world’s longest multispan
bridge over tidal water, and on to New
Brunswick.
Visit Hopewell Rocks and see where the
world’s highest tides have gouged four-story
sculptures from the cliffs. Upon arrival join
your local guide for a 40-minute tour to see
high tide and then enjoy lunch on your
own at the concession. If you wish, the
itinerary may be altered so your guests may
stay at Hopewell Rocks until low tide where
they can head down to the ocean’s floor.
Late afternoon, check into your downtown
Moncton hotel, The Crowne Plaza. There
will be time to refresh before a farewell
dinner served at the hotel’s restaurant.
