Hello all!
It’s good to be back after a short travel leave last week. Thank you PE
John, PP Herman, and PP Mike for organizing and running our meet-
ing.
It was a busy two weeks for the district and for our club. We appeared
on the show “Wish Ko Lang” last Saturday, October 11, promoting
our “YamanSaJardin” Urban gardening project along with the other
BCPs of Zone 8. That telecast was filmed at JRU, on location in
Navotas, and is available on our facebook page … be sure to watch for
the shiny head. More importantly, the plants and a recipient/trainer
training session will be held tomorrow at the Blue Building of the
Mandaluyong City Hall.
PP Herman and PP Mark have been busy planning and organizing the District’s interact youth
event, which will be held on November 8th. Our club is sending 3 of our interact clubs, and the
committee is expecting over a thousand delegates. Great job PP Herman and PP Mark!
PP Oscar, on the other hand, has been coordinating with PP Prime Puyo of RC Mandaluyong
East regarding our co-sponsorship of a new Rotary Club with the name RC Mandaluyong
Southwest. We signed the papers this week, and the new club is well on its way. LTG/PP Tom
Rocamora of the Rotary Club of Rizal Centro gave a talk on “Effective Rotary Clubs,” and
some of his slides are available on our facebook page. Congratulations PP Oscar, and welcome
RC Mandaluyong Southwest!
PE John and PP Albert have been putting the finishing touches on our School Based Livelihood
Program, which we call the MPNAG Kitchen, and which is funded by Global Grant
GG1419455. We expect to turnover the kitchen by the first week of November, so stay tuned.
Lastly, PP Albert and myself have been working with the Philippine Red Cross Rizal Chapter
to begin the planning of our Disaster Readiness and Prevention Program (DRAP), which is
funded by Global Grant Number GG1523675. As of press time, all Mandaluyong Zone clubs
have committed to join us in this project. To this end, we have Mr. Robert Daceles, Adminis-
trator of the Red Cross Mandaluyong Branch, and other Red Cross folk on hand to speak about
how the Red Cross plans to work with us.
That’s all the space I have here but we do have a lot going on as we strive to “LIGHT UP RO-
TARY.” Keep in step by checking http://bit.ly/rcmanda for our facebook page, http://bit.ly/
rcmcalendar for our calendar, or http://bit.ly/rcmmagfor our Magdalo issues.
Cheers!

Back Home
Greetings to my fellow Rotarians! I am finally back in Manila
after almost two weeks in Hanoi. The visit was intended pri-
marily for vacation but I ended up doing some business on the
side. I was actually interested in joining a Rotary Club meet-
ing in Northern Vietnam but it seems that there is no Rotary
Club in that part of the world. The take-away is that there are
still areas in our neck of the woods (Southeast Asia) that need
to be connected in order to LIGHT UP ROTARY!
We are on our thirteenth meeting of our Club in RY 2014-
2015. We are glad you are here today for our weekly meetingat our home in EDSA
SHANGRILA HOTEL.
Today’s meeting is an exciting one as we are having some people from Philippine
Red Cross to discuss our Disaster Relief and Preparedness (DRAP) project under the
Rotary International’s Global Grant. Being part of Philippine Red Cross Rizal Chap-
ter Makati Branch, I have undergone Basic Life Support (BLS) and CPR training
through Red Cross and I can attest to the highly qualified trainors of the organization.
I am confident that the skills that the Red Cross will impart to the first responders on
the barangay level will be useful and practical when disaster strikes.
Rotary in the News
Checking out the RI website, I chanced upon the feature article that the White
House through President Obama’s senior advisers and Mrs. Obama honored Ro-
tary Women for their humanitarian service. One of the honorees is Elizabeth Usoviczof Shawnee Mission, Kansas. She has
worked on service projects in Missouri as well as outside the United States. In Ma-
lawi, she helped to reduce the rate of malaria deaths by 65 percent to 70 percent in
less than a year by supplying the community with mosquito bed nets.
For more about the honorees and their projects, you can check out the article at:

service.

Our initial target date of completion for MPNAG culinary classroom set at
the end of October will be moved again to the first week of November. We
are now in the process of selecting the most cost effective kitchen equip-
ment to be used in our project. We will be annoucing the final date of in-
auguration through email so that all Rotarians who have time can join us
in the simple ceremony. Representatives from our sister clubs will be
there as well.
Since our last reminder on the updating of club dues, members have been
very cooperative. Some of them even arranged to have their cheques
picked up from their office. Let me take this opportunity to thank you all
for the kind gesture of fulfilling your obligation on time. For those who
have yet to issue their cheques, please just send a text message to me so
that I can take care of the rest. (0917-5222580 or 0922-8567020)
From all the exchange of emails between PP Albert and our beloved
president, you will know that as of this writing, we are rushing to meet
the requirement for the approval of more matching grants. Am sure you
will be hearing more of them in the coming weeks. All rotarians are wel-
come to contribute.

One In A Million
Love had played its games on me so long
I started to believe I'd never find anyone
Doubt had tried to convince me to give in
Said you can't win
But one day the sun it came shinin' through
The rain had stopped and the skies were blue
And oh, what a revelation to see
Someone was saying "I love you" to me
A one in a million, chance of a lifetime
And life showed compassion
And sent to me a stroke of love called you
A one in a million you
I was a lonely man with empty arms to fill
Then I found a piece of happiness to call my own
And life is worth living, again
For to love you, to me, is to live
A one in a million, chance of a lifetime
And life showed compassion
And sent to me, a stroke of love, called you
A one in a million you
A one in a million, chance of a lifetime
And life, showed compassion
And sent to me a stroke of love called you
A one in a million you, a one in a million you
