Four Basic Lubrication System Functions
Major Lubrication System Components
• Oil Pump• Oil Pan• Oil Filter• Oil Galleries• Dip Stick• Oil Pressure Sending
Unit
Lubricating Oil Terminology
• Viscosity• Viscosity Index• A.P.I.• S.A.E.• Single Viscosity• Multi Viscosity• Pour Point depressant• Detergent Dispersant
Maintenance
• Oil should be changed every 3000 miles or at manufacturers suggested interval
• Use viscosity/grade designed for vehicle
• Filter should also be changed
• Oil changes are needed because oil gets contaminated with carbon, water, metal filings and gasoline
Be kind to Mother Earth
• Take your waste motor oil to a local garage or municipal facility for recycling. Remember--one gallon of oil carelessly dumped into a drain can pollute over a million gallons of water!!
