Scene Two One night he put everyone to sleep and escaped from the palace in order to be able to spend his time meditating. He cut off his hair and ordained himself as a monk. He first became an ascetic in the forest with some others, holding various crazy yoga postures, like statues, and hardly eating or drinking for six years! A little girl with some food was passing by and it was then that he realized he needed to be normal, and eat, and do things normally. Nothing external needs to change, only the mind. The Life of Buddha - a Short Play Scene One Siddhartha was born as a royal prince in 624BC. His Father the King, was very proud and wanted Siddhartha to grow into a powerful King. Siddhartha showed complete mastery of skills such as all the traditional arts and sciences, mathematics and sports such as martial arts and archery. He visited the city and saw a sick person, an old person and a corpse. He felt such compassion for them and wanted to leave the palace to attain full enlightenment so that he could help everyone, but the King tried all means to prevent his son from leaving. Scene Three Siddhartha traveled to a place near Bodh Gaya and sat beneath the Bodhi Tree to meditate and try and achieve a mind that could help everyone. Lots of harmful beings tried to put him off. If it is possible for lots of noise to be made, you could have a little competition. The whole class tries to make the child who is playing Siddhartha open his eyes - without touching him. If the child keeps their eyes closed Siddhartha wins. If the class gets Siddhartha to open his eyes, they win. Of course the real Siddhartha’s meditation was so powerful nothing could disturb him. Because of the strength of his love and wisdom he triumphed and became a fully enlightened Buddha. You could also act the ‘touching the earth mudra’ (left hand in the meditation position, right hand touching the ground over his right knee). This is to show that Buddha has destroyed all his negative minds and now he loves everyone, everywhere throughout the whole earth. He shows this by touching the earth.
