Loving Kids Enough To…

Those of us who have been in education long enough to see the

pendulum swing….six months or longer …. have noticed that there’s

always something “new” on the horizon, promising to elevate the

scholastic bar, as well as the achievement of our nation’s youth.

After each “new” program, approach, or mandate, it seems we

remember ... as King Solomon so aptly recognized … that there is

nothing truly new under the sun.

Perhaps it’s time to get more focused on something really old:

LOVE! Of course, I’m not talking about romantic love. I’m not

talking about wishy-washy-wimpy love.

I’m Talking About:

loving kids enough to provide warmth and love regardless of how

they act, how well they learn, or how bright they are

loving kids enough to let them make affordable mistakes, rather

than trying to micromanage them into success

loving kids enough to place most of our emphasis on teaching

character, compassion, and problem solving rather than teaching to

a test

loving kids enough to hold them accountable for their choices and

allowing them to go through the consequences of those choices

loving them enough to build them up in their areas of strength, so

that they have the energy to face their areas of weakness

loving kids enough to let them work at solving their problems

without us hovering or telling them exactly what to do

loving kids enough to help them develop into all that God intends for

them to be

And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest

of these is LOVE!

K4 HAPPENINGS

K4 students have been busy learning letters and numbers in addition

to countless other things. As we learn each letter, we make crafts and

usually make something to eat that starts with the letter. These were

our favorite things we have made.

For the letter D, we made Daisy Doll’s Dirt Dessert.

It was yummy!

Our class has a lot of fun with the letter U. We made Uncle

Ugby’s Ugly Faces using a bagel and took walks under the um-

brella.

Hippo Hop’s Hamburgers for the letter H.

When we learned the letter T, we had a tea party and we all brought our favorite animal.

We ate toast in a triangle shape and drank lemonade tea.!

Have you ever eaten an octopus? We did and they were really good! We made them from

wieners for the letter O.

1st Grade

As you know, kids at this time of year are usually all about what they’re going to GET for

Christmas. They always have a really long list. However, in First Grade, we turned the tables a

little bit and made the students think more about giving. They were asked to answer the following:

“If you could give someone you know a special gift for Christmas, and didn’t have to worry about

how much it cost, what would you give that person and who would it be?” Here’s what they said:

Austin C. ~ My mom – a trip to London; Grandma - all the gold and jewelry; Granddad - the Dallas Cowboys; my sisters - 4 wheelers; my baby cousin - a lifetime supply of binkies.

Tobin E. ~ My dad - a new excavator that works; Mom - lots of roses; Nanny - a coupon for Old Navy; Uncle Dale - a wooden racecar that’s painted and has stickers on it.

Ethan G. ~ Grayson - a doll and lip gloss; Sissy - makeup and a new phone; Daddy - a new TV and truck; Mom - a new pan, a new truck, and a new house.

Journey J. ~ My dad - the Houston Texans; Cannon - Big Hero 6 stuff; Mom - an iPhone6; Grandma - new dog; Papa - trip to New York.

Wes J. ~ Jaxson - a 20 ot 6 rifle; Dad - a 243 rifle; Mom - an iPhone6; Grandma - iPhone6; and Grandpa - a spotlight.

Sydney J. ~ My mom - the Green Bay Packers and an iPhone; Dad - a new rifle; and Everett - a big remote control truck.

Camp P. ~ Jax - lots of Legos; Dad - a trip to Israel; Mom - an iPad, a smart phone and a new crockpot; Rachel - lip gloss and nail polish.

Micah S. ~ My mom - a new car; Dad - gun rack; Cannon - a lifetime supply of toys and horses; and Uncle Howard - baby ducks.

Wyatt W. ~ My mom - a new iPad and a trip to Florida; Dad - a new lawnmower; Mimi & Pop - a trip to Hawaii; Jesse - a robot Batman, and my sister - a doll.

4th Grade

The 4th grade class has had a wonderful first semester

of school! Academically we started the year off with

much review and then began adding in new skills in

all curriculum areas. The class thoroughly enjoyed

reading the novel, Trumpet of the Swan, as well as

many other good novels since school has started.

September held many extra events for us including the

Grand Luncheon, See Ya at the Pole and our field trip

to the George W. Bush Presidential Library. What a

fabulous trip that was! We all enjoyed getting to visit

the Oval Office! All of the adult chaperones agreed

that we would like to go back when we could have a

chance to see it all. There is so much to see and

experience. October was very fun with our week of “I

Mustache You To Show”, where the whole school

learned more about compassion, kindness, humility,

gentleness, and patience. November found us busy

collecting shoe boxes full of goodies for Operation

Christmas Child and getting ready for the annual

Christmas production.

It has been a super semester and although we are

looking forward to the Christmas break, we will be

glad to get back in the saddle again in January.

6th Grade wrote letters to God

Dear God,

Please help me remember that Christmas is not about presents, candy, and giving;

I know that giving is good, but for me to think about you. Please bless Ezra and

help him to stay deep in faith. Help me pay attention in church, especially during

Advent candles. Please keep my family and friends safe over Christmas break. ~

Connor B.

Dear Lord,

Thank you for this day and your creation. Thank you for having Joseph and Mary

give birth to Jesus. And thank you for Kaufman Christian School. In your name,

Amen. ~ Adam M.

Dear God,

Thank you for another day of life. Thank you for a family who loves me and a

house to live in. I’m thankful for a bed to sleep in at night. I’m thankful for friends

and food. I’m especially thankful for your Son. Amen. ~ Max T.

Dear God,

Thank you for sending your son, Jesus, so that He could die for our sins and let us

go to Heaven. Thank you for letting us have snowmen, food, and the Bethlehem

Star. We love you. ~ Skylar G.

Dear God,

As you know, there is a holiday coming. People get so tied up in shopping,

presents, Santa, and Christmas lights that we forget about what really happened

on this day. Please help me and other people to remember that you sent Your Son,

Jesus. I love you. ~ Sheradin K.

Dear Lord,

Thank you for this wonderful day and another day of life. Thank you for my friends

and family. Thank you for a good, healthy life, and a nice home. Thank you for

letting me go to a Christian School. Most importantly, thank you for sending Your

Son. Love, Carlee D.

Dear God,

I am thankful for Jesus. I am thankful for cats. I am thankful for pie. I am thankful

for my family. ~ Bailey S.

MUSIC NOTES

P.E.

My this first semester just zoomed by! The kids have done a super job learning their

songs, music, and lines for our Christmas program. We hope you enjoyed K4 and K5

songs and 1st thru 6th - “An Unplugged Christmas”. Many thanks to Lori Robertson,

Jana Ewing, and Jennifer Bazhaw for such an outstanding job with scenery, props,

staging, choreography, and sound. These things are so essential to make the musical

come alive. They have done a wonderful job and I want to say “THANK YOU”.

What a great group of children we have, and their talents are endless. We are

beginning to prepare for bells, recorders, and chimettes, as well as learning songs for

the auction. I would like to point out that our kids from first grade through sixth

grade will actually be reading and playing written music. They are learning a lot of

music theory and then applying what they have learned on the instruments. We are

just busy, busy and I pray for God’s continued protection and blessings. We are

thankful for our parents. Your support and help make our jobs so much easier. I am

thankful for God’s provision for this school, kiddos, and teachers. We are going to be

making a lot of music this next semester.

When the students return from Christmas break in January, they will begin the

Mega Mileage Club. This is a program which is walking and running for 10 minutes

each day. We have a designated area and 60 laps makes a mile. The students

receive a necklace that they will keep in their class until the end of the year. On the

necklace, they will add a foot charm each time they accomplish a mile. The K4 class

will start attending PE classes toward the end of January and will also participate

in the Mega Mileage Club. The students really enjoy trying to see how many miles

they can accomplish by the end of the school year. Looking forward to getting this

program going again. Remember, wear your tennis shoes on Tuesdays & Thursdays!

If you had fun, you won!!

Mrs. Lori
