We would like to share a photo album of our adventures so far.

Wij willen graag een foto album met jullie delen van onze avonturen tot nu.

A street in Arezzo.Arezzo dates back to the Roman Empire and it is situated approximately 100km south from Florence. Michaelangelo was born in this district. We paid a visit to the frescoes of Piera della Francesca which can be seen in the San Francesco church. They have recently restored the frescoes making them absolutely wonderful to see. Marc and I spent time with the girls explaining the entire story of the frescoes and how they were constructed which they thought was pretty impressive.

Een straat in Arezzo. Arrezzo gaat terug tot de Romeinen en ligt ongeveer 100km ten zuiden van Florence. Michaelangelo is in de buurt van Arezzo geboren. Wij zijn ook naar de frescos van Piero della Francesca geweest die in de San Francesco Kerk te vinden zijn. Ze waren pas op nieuw gerestaureerd en zien er nu prachtig uit. Wij hebben het hele verhaal van de fresco’s uitgelegd aan de meiden die het ook erg indrukwekkend vonden.

Arezzo ligt op een heuvel en de belangrijkste gebouwen liggen helemaal boven aan. De straatjes zijn erg nauw, maar wel erg gezellig. De winkeliers doen echt moeite om hun winkeltjes er gezellig uit te laten zien. Er staan overal prachtige bloembakken met bloemen er in wat er voor zorgt dat je de gezelligheid van Arezzo niet snel zal vergeten.De Italianen maken ook heerlijke koffie. We vinden de capuccino’s onzettend lekker. Als je die bestelt dan is er altijd een surprise met een tekening erop van een ‘smiley-face’, een bloemetje of een geinig patroontje, allemaal gemaakt van chocola.

Arezzo lies on a fairly steep hill and the main buildings lie at the top of the hill. This allowed for quaint, and very narrow streets and side alleys to be built. Along the sides of the streets, store owners take great pride in making their stores look attractive. They would place lovely vases and flower pots outside which made the streets look warm and cozy. Italians also take pride in their coffee. We simply love drinking capuccino’s and one would always be surprised by a drawing, whether it be a smiley-face, a flower or a simple pattern made from powdered chocolate!

Life at the VillaLeven bij de Villa

Not one day goes by that I remind my family how incredibly grateful we are to be here. The apartment we have is simple but has everything we need. The girls are sharing a room which they really enjoy. Quite often Marc and I hear them still chatting and giggling into the small hours of the night.

During the day, the girls and I stay at home and work on their school work while I try to get some work done too. Their school work is going well and the fact that we can continue their schooling outside of the US using the Virtual School is quite something. Marc spends his days teaching and is enjoying it very much. His classrooms are in rather large rooms and some have been painted with murals which adds to the nuances of being in Italy.

Er gaat geen dag voorbij dat ik aan Marc en de meiden zeg hoe dankbaar wij zijn om hier te zijn. Het appartement heeft alles wat wij nodig hebben. De meiden delen een kamer wat zij ook leuk vinden. Marc en ik horen hun vaak ‘s nachts nog heerlijk kletsen en giechelen. Heerlijk!

Overdag blijven de meiden en ik thuis om schoolwerk te doen en ook om wat van mijn eigen werk te doen. Hun schoolwerk gaat erg goed en wij staan versteld hoe ze nog gewoon door kunnen leren ook al zijn ze niet in de VS. Marc geeft dus een aantal dagen per week les en hij geniet er van. Zijn klaslokalen zijn best wel groot en sommige zijn versierd met wandschilderingen. Dat brengt de Italiaanse charme helemaal tot leven.

There is no other word for the food at the Villa but: delicious! Three meals are served per day. The lunch and supper are both hot meals which range from soups, pastas to salads. Er is geen ander woord voor het eten bij de Villa: Heerlijk! Drie maaltijden per dag worden geserveeerd. ‘s middags en ‘s avonds is er soep, pastas en salades die voor het opscheppen liggen.

If the weather is warm enough, we use this opportunity to have a picnic consisting of cookies and tea!

Als her weer lekker is dan maken wij een picnic met koekjes en thee.

Ruby always gets the energy to run around and take in all that surrounds her. Amber on the other hand is the quiet observer who prefers to draw what she sees.Robijn krijgt altijd veel energie en vind het leuk om alles rondom haar op te nemen. Amber is wat rustiger en vindt het leuk om alles te tekenen wat zij ziet.

Sesto Fiorentino, where we are staying, has a Saturday Market. Products vary from shoes, clothing, fresh fruits and vegetables, cheese and meat. Net zoals in Nederland heeft Sesto Fiorentino ook een markt op zaterdag. Paarse schoenen vond Robijn natuurlijk erg mooi!
