RRR Update: New Roof and Solar Panels
Christ the King Calls New Associate Pastor Following a congregational vote on April 2, Christ the King has extended a call to Trish Reedstrom to become the new Associate Pastor. Trish will be having an ordination ceremony at Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Peter on Sunday, May 23 at 1:30pm. All are welcome to attend. Trish plans on starting at Christ the King in early June.
Final Wednesday Night The last Wednesday night community supper and worship will be held on
Wednesday, May 6. Wednesday nights will resume in the fall.
Celebration for Cheryl
Part of the new roof has been installed and the solar panels have been set up! We’re going through the final steps of the process and soon the panels will be generating 40 kw/h from the sun. Stay tuned for more announcements regarding our green initiative at Christ the King.
Interim Pastor Cheryl Indehar will be leaving Christ the King near the end of
May and her last weekend preaching will be May 16-17. Please join us in
celebrating her that weekend during a special coffee fellowship in between
services. We appreciate all she’s done for CTK during this time of transition.
Please read a message from Cheryl on page four.

Missio Dei by Pastor Cheryl
“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say Rejoice. Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard you hearts and your minds in Christ Je-sus.” Philippians 4:4-7 Rejoice is a word that is not used very often today, but appears in the Bible 175 times. The diction-ary describes the word rejoice as to be glad, to take delight and/or to make joyful. It is something we are to experience. Joy, by definition, is the emotions of great delight or happiness caused by something good or satisfying; a source of keen pleasure or delight; the expression or display of glad feelings; a state of happiness; to feel joy. Paul writes this letter from prison to the Philippians. He is suffering, but speaks of joy throughout this letter. Jesus Christ is bringing this joy! Paul’s identity is tied to Jesus who is his savior and Lord. Paul, who first persecuted the Christians, is now a Christian being persecuted himself. He doesn’t let his joy in the Lord be taken away from him because of his circumstances. He maintains his rejoicing Jesus. When he is rejoicing in Jesus, he is joyful. Paul states that the Lord is near. In a way that we cannot understand, Jesus has the ability to be near us. In another letter in 1 Corinthians, Paul calls us God’s temple and tells us that God’s Spirit, the Holy Spirit, lives and dwells inside of us. God is always near us and approachable. This all brings joy to Paul and allows him to rejoice. One of the main things that can take our joy and rejoicing from us is worrying. Paul addresses that in this text. He boldly states, “Do not worry about anything.” If we worry about something, we are told to lift up our requests in prayer and supplication to God in thanksgiving. We give God our concerns because He is the one who can do something with them. When we give our worries to God, we will receive peace. This peace surpasses all of our under-standing. This peace will also guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus. God wants us to live in His peace as well as His love and joy. That is what he intends for us all the time. Paul called the Philippians to be gentle so it is known to everyone. In Galatians, Paul talks about the fruit of the Holy Spirit. These fruits are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, and self-control. When we are led by the Spirit we look to living God’s ways and thinking of what God de-sires. We, as Christians, are to live joyful lives and rejoice in the Lord always. This text tells us how to do it. Like Paul, our identity is in Christ. We have been claimed by God as his beloved children. Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross forgives our sins and gives us eternal life. God’s peace protects and guards our hearts and minds to focus on Christ. All of these are gifts from God. We can give thanks with a grateful heart for all that God has done for us.

Summer Organ Recital Series
The final forum in our 4-week series "Claimed, Gathered, Sent" will be on Sunday, May 10 at 9:30am in the
Fireside Room. The series will explore through discussion and invite reflection, conversation and
discernment about what being the church means today. Through this process, we'll seek to strengthen the
mission and ministry of congregations and the ELCA as a whole by going back to our spiritual roots. The
series is being facilitated by Jim Hatleli, with the emphasis on the conversation of the group to explore how
these topics might influence our daily lives.

Praying for Peace is a Never Ending Task!
If you ask most people - from elementary
students to Miss America candidates to care center
residents - what is their most ardent wish, a very
high percentage would say PEACE! And often
prayers for peace follow those wishes for peace.
The first time I crossed the Mason-Dixon Line and
traveled into the southern states was 88 years after
the end of the Civil War. After my first year at
Augsburg College, I spent the summer of 1953
working in Texas, teaching VBS with Marilyn at
the Mexican Mission in the Rio Grande Valley and
later as an orderly at Bexar County Hospital in San
Antonio. More importantly, that was the summer
we were engaged to be married! That summer and
the following Christmas was my first experience
witnessing the impact of Jim Crow. Never before
had I seen White Only and Colored Only signs, And
they were as far north as the Kansas City train
station! Had not the Civil War ended 88 years
earlier? And here we are in 2015 celebrating the
150th
year of the end of the Civil war. General Lee’s
army surrendered on April 9, 1865. Five days later
President Lincoln was assonated. The last battle of
the Civil War was fought May 12-13, 1865 at
Palmito Ranch, Texas. So now in May 2015 we can
celebrate the 150th
year of the beginning of Peace
after 4 bloody years of Civil conflict. Or can we? As
we look at some of the civil strife in America and
the heartless terrorism internationally, our prayers
for peace are a high priority in our daily devotions.
Pray for Peace and find ways to foster Peace!
This would be a very good year to visit Lincoln Park here in
Mankato, especially if you have never been there. Take some
time to read the historical marker, pause for a special prayer
for peace. You may even discover some small ways you can
be an instrument of peace in this world of violence!
