COUNCIL MEETINGThe next two Council meetings will be held onTuesday 10th April and Wednesday 9th May inthe Council Chambers. All members of thepublic are welcome to attend, please note thechange of day in April from Wednesday toTuesday.

CEMETERY ENTRANCE

During the past 12months Council haveconsidered aproposal to upgradethe entrance to theKimba Cemetery.Council have justreceived the firstdraft plan of a

proposed entrance which is on display at theCouncil Office or on the Council Notice Board(Institute Wall) and would like to inviteresidents to comment on the design. As part ofany upgrade Council proposes to install a smallstructure that will identify grave sites (oppositeNiche Wall).

SEALING OF AIRSTRIP

On 19/3/2012the HonourableAnthonyAlbanese MPMinister ofInfrastructure and Transport announced thatthe District Council of Kimba was to receive$284,533 towards the total cost of $853,958 toconstruct and seal the Kimba Airstrip. The SouthAustralian State Government and Council willcontribute the same amount as the FederalGovernment. Whilst Council’s contribution of$284,533 is a substantial amount to contributetowards the sealing of the Airstrip, I am sureeveryone in the community will agree that thisis a strategic long term benefit for our Districtand once finished the community will have anall-weather Airstrip. Loan funding will be

applied for through the Local GovernmentAuthority for Council’s contribution.

REVOCATION OF COMMUNITYLAND

On the 3rd February 2012 Council purchasedLot 5 Ferry Street (Foote’s) as part of Council’slong term plan to create more blocks forResidential Development. Part of the purchasewas also to fix some minor drainage problemscoming from the adjoining Sampson StreetSub-division. Under the Community LandSection of the Local Government Act 1999 allland owned by Council is “Community Land”unless the resolution for purchase clearlystates that it is to be excluded. This statementwas not included and therefore to proceedwith Council plans for the area we now need toexclude the land through a revocation process. There are several steps for this to be achieved, the first being council preparing a report andseeking comment through a publicconsultation process. Public consultation closeson the 19th April 2012 and the report isavailable from the Council Office between 9amand 5pm weekdays.

FIRE PERMITSWe have recently had a few issues with fireburning permits. Please adhere to theconditions on the back of the permit andthe local conditions sheet you shouldreceive when you apply for a permit.

WALKING TRAIL
