Lobby commons

The lobby area will be the main entry for all visitors. This space will not only serve as reception for our visitors, but also a waiting area for prospective students and groups waiting for their appointments and current students who may be scheduled to interview. Prospective employers will likely utilize this space to access the building as it has a convenient access point to the parking structure to the east. Designed to be comfortable and full of K-State pride, this space will be an often-requested reception space for the campus.

interactive information area

The interactive information area is envisioned to be a space where guests may access the latest K-State information and customize the information they receive by selecting from options on interactive displays. We plan to have options that allow a guest to transfer information to handheld devices. Imagine creating your own customized campus map based on your individual campus visit schedule and your personal interests. Way finding, academic information, student life and student support services information would be accessible through custom searches. Student profiles could be customized by geography, academic interest, student leadership experience, etc. Guests would have immediate access to games and applications, and could interact with the university through cutting-edge technology before experiencing the “high touch” of a friendly and responsive staff member.

admissions representative office

The admissions representative office is designed to support the collaborative and team-based environment that is essential for effective enrollment management programs. The large open office with adequate desk configurations creates a space that allows for collaboration on programming and in serving students and families. This structure — open, inclusive, collaborative — is an excellent model for the student staff who will work in a similar space adjacent to the admissions representatives.

pride waLkway

The walkway that connects the lobby to the Career and Employment Services suite is an important symbolic and functional feature of the structure. The design has allowed for a literal and figurative “connection” between the beginning of a K-State experience to transitioning into one’s career. The hallway is the design element that allows us to bring the two points in a student’s educational experience together.

Featuring artwork that represents the K-State experience, the pride walkway will be a path along which students will recognize the development of pride and purpose K-State alumni possess. The space is meant to inspire and encourage greatness.

The functional aspects of the space will connect the lobby to the remaining portions of the building, including the bank of interview rooms. The interview rooms are designed to be utilized by both Career and Employment Services and New Student Services. A current student will wait to be interviewed and have access to the niches with benches and space to greet employers. A new student will use the interview rooms to meet with an admissions representative and initiate or solidify the personal recruiting relationship K-State is known to create with our prospective students. Pride Walkway: $1.5 million

castLe towers (2)

The castle towers will be the landmarks for the building — the features by which we will describe the building to help our guests find us. The towers will be like the Anderson Hall steeple — an instantly recognizable part of K-State.

The north end of the welcome center hosts the physical gathering place for students and employers, the technology to facilitate career connections and the career services personnel who are dedicated to guiding K-State students from college to career.

green roof system

The renovation of the structure requires a permanent solution for waterproofing the roof. The green roof system is both an attractive and sustainable option to bring K-State to the forefront of building innovation. The current design offers a solution for providing traditional seating (bleachers) and non-traditional (grassy areas) on the stadium stands. Guests who are enjoying a day on campus may sit outside in a green space while waiting for an appointment or campus tour.
