THE JESSIE LEARNS WEEKLY ROUNDUP April 7, 2017 This Week at School… Big congratulations are in order for Claire F. and Jenny Z., who presented their speeches at the annual “Concours d’art oratoire” for the Surrey School District. Claire and Jenny finished in the top two of their division! Jenny will be going on to represent Surrey at the provincial Concours at SFU on May 6. We are so proud of you both! Division 7 bid farewell to practicum student teacher Ms. Antunes on Friday. The mutual learning between students and teacher was wonderful experience over the past few months. Thank you, Ms. Antunes! Students in Division 9 were having fun with measurement in their “Leap Frog Olympics”! School Updates Our annual Track and Field program for students in Grades 3-7 will be starting after Easter weekend. We are looking for parents who may be interested in coaching long and triple jump or long distance running (800 – 1500 m). You can choose the practice schedule that suits you! Please email Mrs. Davison or call the school if you can help out. For the past two years we have been working to increase students having Safe and Active Routes to School. Our partners at Urban Systems and the City of Surrey are hosting a celebratory “Walking Wednesday” on April 19 from Alderwood Park to Jessie Lee during the morning travel time. Details including a map of the route for the “walking school bus” will be coming shortly. Save the date! Our PAC’s Spring Sprint fun run is happening on Friday, April 28. Students will be collecting pledges and then challenging themselves in this fun fitness event. There will be a concession following the run as well. Dates to Remember Tuesday, April 11 – Divisions 12, 13 and 14 look for “Signs of Spring” at Bakerview Park Wednesday, April 12 – students from the White Rock Learning Centre present their social media cinema projects to students in Div. 3 Thursday, April 13 – Annual Easter “egg” hunt for all students put on by our Events Committee Friday, April 14 – GOOD FRIDAY – Statutory Holiday – School Closed Monday, April 17 – EASTER MONDAY – Statutory Holiday – School Closed

This Week at School… •

• Big congratulations are in order for Claire F. and Jenny Z., who presented their speeches at the annual “Concours d’art oratoire” for the Surrey School District.
