ANNUAL SAFETY MEETINGRecap

Joe was born and raised in Bayou L' Ourse. He is a crane operator for JB James with 38 years of experience, including several years with T.L. James Co. at the beginning of his bridge career.

Joe le oshore work in the 80s to move into the bridge building business and has been with JB James almost 5 years (except for a 6 month job in the British Virgin Islands).

He enjoys hunting deer, ducks, rabbits and squirrels in his spare time, and loves his 4 grandbabies (+ 1 on the way) - even though they were all born during hunting season! He is currently working the LA 21 job in Covington with Je Hastings.

Joe recently conducted his typical day of job site observation for possible hazards in his li operation. He found that his upcoming work plan schedule would not work with the hazards and obstructions along the job site - on the south side of the proposed northbound bridge. He noticed that his swing radius with the crane would interfere with the minimum 10 feet OSHA clearance requirements.

Joe immediately reported to his Supervisor and Project manager that he was going to utilize his STOP WORK authority to ensure no danger would come to himself, fellow employees or to JB James.

PM Je Hastings adds, "Constructing this northbound bridge has been a dicult task due to the close proximity to the

powerlines along the ROW and the large crane that was needed to build the work out over the creek. We just nished with all of the work needed for the 200 ton larger crane with zero incidents or near misses and have now moved this crane away from the powerlines. Each morning Joe has evaluated dierent eld conditions such as fog or mist/haze and has made eld decisions about whether or not it was safe at that time to proceed with work due to his proximity to the powerlines.”

Together with Joe, Je Hastings' team was able to devise an alternative li plan to do the job safely, preventing any possible incidents.

Joe - great job on your proactive approach to ZERO IN ON SAFETY!
