Curriculum & English Teaching Methods Department

The Sixth grade students are aged about ( 11 or 12 ) years old . They

learn English Language at early stage from their school age . They

began learning English at the first grade and they continued until the

twelfth grade . Each year they have increased their knowledge by

having more information . In the sixth grade ,the curriculum plan

helps students to deal with information , skills and experiences that

are appropriate to their mental abilities .This is to enable students

to use and practice the English language in and out the classroom.

The Sixth grade Students have the following characteristics :

1 – They are in transition from concrete to abstract thinking .

2 – They prefer interaction with peers during learning

experience.

3 – Their experience is rapid and they have irregular physical

growth .

4 – They have a need for more independence while still requiring

adult guidance and support .

5 – They have an increased self-control and a strong sense of

competition and leadership .

1 – Provide students with learning opportunities that

would enable them to comprehend , interpret and

appreciate texts of different genres and on a variety of

topics.

2 – Develop awareness and limited mastery of reading

micro skills (e. g. skimming , scanning , guessing

meaning from context etc.)

3 – Enhance comprehension and interpretation skills .

4 – Develop social interaction and communication skills

( negotiation of meaning and conversation management )

5 – Refine ability to use language in a socio linguistically

appropriate ways .

6 – Develop ability to produce guided / controlled written

texts.

7 – Develop high order thinking skills

8 – Develop basic academic skills and learning habits.

9 – Develop the ability to transfer knowledge to other ,

similar and relevant context .

10 – Develop information searching and library skills.

11 – Develop test-taking skills.

Though this program , you can achieve the following

objectives :

1 - identify new parts inside the body .

2 - learn the functions of the new organs

3 - differentiate between "ache " and " pain " to express

ailments .

4 - identify new ailment vocabulary .

5 - use the new ailment vocabulary in real situations .

6 - practise listening to a dialogue to get specific

information .

7 - drill listening to a dialogue to make similar ones .

8 - use different punctuation marks correctly .
