Letter From the Executive Director Dear Members,
Hopefully we have gotten through the worst of the winter and signs of spring will
appear. We have an exciting March and April planned. We realize that you, as an
artist, spend lots of your time in the studio creating works and satisfying your goals to
produce artwork that is creative and pleasing. But if the ultimate goal is to get it into a
gallery and sell it, you still have work to do.
We have instituted several new programs that will help you on the way to success!
The business of art is not an easy one and doing it right takes time out of your painting
schedule. Our new Art of Marketing services, provided by Bobby Baker, is available
now! Read up on his menu, found on our website or as a flyer in the office. He is the
business consultant that you need, that you have always wished you had. He has many
years of experience in the art world, in business and especially in marketing. He can
help you get your name out, promote your artwork, and create the professionalism you
want the public to see. Check out his classes, workshops and personal services he can
provide at: capecodartassoc.org/shop/self-marketing-101bobby-baker/ or
capecodartassoc.org/shop/cape-cod-art-marketing-services/.
Cape Cod Art Association realizes also that creating art can be a lonely profession.
You are holed up in your studio or out shooting photos by yourself, with no one to
discuss thoughts with, no one to answer questions for you about your painting or
photo, about your series or your publicity. Of course, entry level artists need stroking
and encouragement and help with problems, but professionals need someone to talk to
as well. We have started a “One on One Mentoring Program” for you. Wouldn’t you
like to have an experienced mentor, who can be your personal assistant, advisor, go to
person? We have enlisted a great group of mentors who, for an hourly rate, they’re just
for you. You are in control about what you will discuss. They will help you to solve
your artistic problems, give you advice about individual works, help you to
professionally frame, talk about how to create a series or a style, discuss how to get
your visions onto the canvas or talk about camera equipment, processing or producing
a better work. Go to our website, under classes/workshops to find the right mentor for
you. After you sign up, arrangements of time and location of meeting will be between
you and the mentor.
Your art center is your support team. If you need help, we are there for you to get
you the best advice. Take advantage of what we have to offer!
Happy Spring! Roberta

What R the Chances? . . .
The four Chances R prizes are…a basket of favorable wines, a bundle of scratch tickets, tickets for a boat ride on the "Sarah B" out of Hyannis Harbor, and for all of you avid art collectors out there, a framed print of a painting by Senator Edward M. Kennedy that has an original signature with quote.
How do you get a Chances R ticket?
If you donate your artwork, you will receive a ticket for you to take a chance on which prize you want.
If you buy a piece of artwork during the event, you will also be given a ticket.
Tickets for the "Chances R" drawing are currently for sale at CCAA and will be sold up until the drawing during the day of the event on March 18th. (1 ticket for $5, 3 tickets for $10, 6 tickets for $20)
Mark your calendars! CCAA’s “Off The Wall” fundraising event will be Saturday, March 18, 4-6:30pm. We'll have great deals on artwork. All "Off The Wall" artwork
will be priced at $100. The catch is... the artist of the piece remains anonymous until after the purchase. Meaning, you could score a piece worth much more than the ticketed price.
Come and see what’s on the wall, have a glass of wine, buy a painting or a photograph, and enter
your Chance in our drawing. CHANCES R you’ll have some fun!
Chances R…
OFF THE WALL Can you help? CCAA needs the work from
both photographers and studio artists for our upcoming fund raising art sale
“Off the Wall 2017”.
*Please help by donating an 8 x 10 unframed work (or any 80 sq. in. format that appeals to you).
*Works on paper should leave a half inch border all around to allow for future framing.
*Please sign your piece only on the BACK, and deliver it to CCAA by March 15th. All works will be priced at $100. Don’t wait any longer to get started, we need to assure a successful event. Pieces have already begun to arrive.
Save the dates . . . You don’t want to miss out! ART IN THE VILLAGE - June 24 and 25. Applications available online and at CCAA.

Congratulations William Maloney!
Thank you for
sharing with us.
How did you discover your talent for your medium? I
started drawing and painting as a small child due to the
fact that my sister Betty, who was 10 years older than I,
was in art school and she taught me how to draw and
paint.
Which Artist(s) has influenced you most? Monet and
Don Stone influenced my work more than any others.
Early on I began by painting with watercolors. Several
years after graduating from Mass College of Art, I went
to Monhegan Island and there I met Don Stone, who is a
nationally known oil painter. Being most impressed by

FEATURED ARTIST OF THE MONTH
“After the Storm”, by William Maloney, oil
his work I then switched to oils, and began taking workshops with him on a regular basis.
Tell us about your creative Process? I find that oils are so fluid and so easily corrected, and
that allows so much more freedom because of that. I paint in a very loose and impressionistic
style. I do a complimentary under-painting starting with a warm color and then I paint over
this with cool colors, giving a warm glow to the finished painting.
Is there anything you want people to take away from your work? I would like people to take
away from my work my love for landscapes and seascapes. I have traveled numerous times
to Italy to paint, and I found painting in Venice was my very favorite spot because of the
strong light and the very serenity of the place, and the fact that the only vehicles around are
on the ocean.
Apart from creating things what do you do? I
spend lots of time these days exercising and
reading, of course, that is when I’m not painting.

Our condolences to all family and friends of Louann Corrado, who passed away last week from cancer. She was a longtime member and fellow artist. Louann was our Sunday Curator and volunteered for many events over the years. Her smile and kindness will be remembered by all.
In memory of Louann, we will be featuring some of her artwork in the lobby. There will also be a memorial service at the end of March at CCAA (TBD).
The Board of Directors have also set up a Scholarship Fund in her memory. The family requested in lieu of flowers, people donate to her fund.
