If I was told 15 years ago that a huge part of my life would be
spent in front of a computer screen, I would have disputed it and
called the person insane. This is because I had always enjoyed
outdoors rather than indoors life. However, it only took me a night
to realize how vital the internet is for me. That very night, I
spent no less than 10 hours surfing the internet and entertaining
myself. I am now convinced that the internet is an effective medium
of entertainment because I can download songs, pictures as well as
chat with friends and play online games. Through the internet, I
have access to funny videos, comedies as well as poems and fun
magazines. I can also download pictures of my friends, celebrities
and popular actors like Ricky Martins. In addition to all these,
the internet gives me access to music stores. The internet not only
provides entertainment but also links me to new acquaintances.
Mails and chat rooms are used to share information among people
with similar interests .More than 225 million people use email for
cooperation and collaboration (Boris, 2011). In my organization,
mailing list discussion and teleconferencing are two wonders of the
internet that allow employees to work on multitude of projects
despite our separation by physical space. ICQ and IRC are the two
essential programs that provide chat rooms, mailing list and
instant messages so that individuals can connect to share ideas on
a topic and familiarise with each other (Boris, 2011). The internet
allows people across the world to play variety of online games. One
amazing and amusing fact of playing network games is that an
individual can play against intelligence instead of a personal
computer.
Was it rewarding staying 10 hours with my computer? It was
certainly was as it provided me opportunity to meet new friends,
download audio and video songs and play exciting internet games. I
would passionately advise anyone to invest on the internet as a
means of entertainment so far it is utilised wisely with caution
