In view of •the fact t hat Sou-th Bend ui:;uall y defeat s teams ·by . scores mount in g close to the half century mark, it is plainly evident that the game was .s•tubbornly contes t ed. 'l'he g,ame was played on a wet gr ound, dotted near · the side lin es with puddles of water, almost as bad ,as ,the Elkhart game l a st year. Rain fell quite hard for a s,hor,t time before the contest ,and during play, and had a decided effect in keeping the crowd reduced, hardly 200 per- sons w itn ess in g the game . Many who ,s·aw the game ,say if Gary could have .shifted from lin e bucks to end runs, she would have d efeaited the loc als. The line •buck - ing of her backfield was 'Wonderful and ,time and again during t•he ·sec- ond ,and thiord quarters, firs,t d·own was ,scored through the lin e.
