Technical Sheet Installing Office 365: Mac OS rev 01 08/07/2015
The instructions below are designed to assist you in installing the software on your own Mac or MacBook laptop. Please do not try to install this software onto a managed University Mac as you will not have rights to do so. (ie. A classroom / lab Mac)
This document will help show you how to access and download Microsoft Office 2016 for Mac. The
software is available as part of the University agreement with Microsoft and as such, the software will
only continue to function while you are a member of the University.
Go to https://login.microsoftonline.com and enter your University username ([email protected]).
Click in the 'Password' box to start redirection to the University's login page.
Enter your normal University password and click on the 'Sign in' button.
You will be taken to the Office 365 Homepage.
On the homepage you will see an ‘Install office on your Mac’ section. This page also has links for the
Office Online apps (under the heading ‘Collaborate with Office Online’), which you can use on any
internet enabled device (you don't need to install Office 365 to use these).
Click the 'Install now' button and save the file to your preferred location
Users can install and use Office 365 on up to five devices concurrently. This includes mobile Office on smartphones, tablets and other devices. Follow the on-screen instructions to learn how to set up Office 365 apps on a mobile device.

Office may take some time to install. Until it has finished installing in the background, you should not go
offline or restart your computer.
Office 365 is not a web-based version of Office and does not require you to be online to use it.
However, you must connect to the internet periodically so that your subscription can be checked against
the licenses that the University has purchased. If you get asked for your Office 365 subscription, or your
Office 365 user ID, then this is your [email protected].
If you already have an older version of Microsoft Office installed, you are advised to not delete it.
Whilst you are studying or employed at the University, you will be able to use the most up-to-date
version of Office 365. When you leave the University, if you decide against signing up to a new
subscription with Microsoft then you still have your old version.
Outlook
It is not currently possible to use Outlook 2016, however the University’s Exchange servers are being
upgraded shortly, and will be fully functional at the point that the product is launched across the
University. In the meantime, continue to use Outlook 2011 if installed.
