June is a Season of Change for Inman This month, we will bid farewell to Rev. Jim Hanna and Lynn. Rev. Hanna has served Inman UMC faithfully for four years as our pastor. Jim and Lynn will be starting their retirement at their home in South Carolina. Rev. Jim, you have served the Lord with gladness - tirelessly, faithfully, and with great compassion for His flock. Now, as the seasons change for the next chapter in your life, may God continue to richly bless you and watch over you. We will miss you and Lynn and keep both of you in our prayers. Later this month, Inman UMC will welcome our new pastor, Tommy Ross, and his family. Pas- tor Ross has served as the pastor of Julia A. Porter UMC in Porterdale, GA for the past three years. Jim and Lynn will be starting their retirement at their home in South Carolina. Rev. Jim, you have served the Lord with gladness - tirelessly, faithfully, and with great compassion for His flock. Joy & Sharing The Joy and Sharing Fellowship meets the second Tuesday of each month at 11:30 a.m. in the church Fellowship Hall for a covered dish lunch. All women, men, and children are invited.

Joy and Sharing was organized in 1974 by Doris Harp, Mary Harp, Ida Mae Griffith, Sarah Minter, and Frances Peeples. It was organized as a social luncheon as part of the United Methodist Women’s Maggie Tarpley Day Circle of the Inman Church. Joy and Sharing has never had officers or a budget. Everything has been done on a voluntary basis only. Joy and Sharing has also been a community

service to anyone needing help and providing food for funerals and other activities.

Joy and Sharing has been meeting for lunch every month for 43 years. The members’ gratitude goes out to Gloria Reid, who has been the thread that has kept the organization together. Please come join us and bring your family and friends.

Scholarship Committee

Over the past two years, as a church, we have been able to help 2 of our students attending Methodist Colleges through the United Methodist Dollars for Scholars program. In this program, our church gives a scholarship of $1000 to the student and the United Methodist Higher Education Founda-tion, the college, and our North Georgia Conference match that with another $1000 each, for a total of $4000 to the student (a 4 to 1 match).

We have been asked if there are options that may be able to be opened to

our other students that are not attending Methodist-related schools. Early this year we formed a Scholarship Committee to see how, as a

church, we can continue and expand this effort. Currently Nancy Allgood, Ed Roehm, and Brad Wagner are on this committee. We are looking for others that would like to participate. This committee is currently developing the scholarship guidelines, selection criteria, and fund-raising plans for scholarship funds It will also be charged with overseeing the process of awarding the scholarships. One reason we are soliciting additional members is that members of the committee will recuse themselves if they have children that will be benefiting from the award process.

We are writing this today to ask for your feedback and assistance in this effort. For example, one key area where your input would be invaluable is in the area of fundraising. One option would be

to schedule more events, such as dinners, bake sales, craft bazaars etc. But with the number of these we already have on the calendar, it may be better just to make it an open ongoing appeal to the congregation for designated giving. Depend-ing on the feedback you give, we am proposing simply standing before you once a quarter, in June, September, Decem-ber, and March to make a brief announcement and appeal for directed giving.

As the year goes on, the Scholarship Committee will meet and be able to report progress toward the goals. Each year,

through the budgeting process and through the directed giving we can determine how we can best assist our college students. We are excited to see how God will multiply our efforts and see this grow over time.

Thank you.

Brad Wagner
