If you haven’t been by you are missing a pretty display. At least we have our show a little before Easter this year so maybe the local people won’t be on the road to grandma’s house yet. The next month will be a very busy one. We have the final preps, the dealer set up then the dealer dinner and then the show. Friday – lunchtime – either donate sandwiches or soup if you can (you get to eat too). Friday night – about 6:30 (I’m pretty sure) show up with two dishes and be prepared to overeat and get to know the dealers and what they have (also neighboring clubs who graciously come and bring very pretty cases). Sat – 9:30 show up to help open the show at 10 (unless you volunteered for a later time) Work all day or at least your shift. Sat 6 p.m. – when the show closes we go out to eat with the dealers- neighboring clubs – it is dutch treat – you pay for your own. Not mandatory but fun just the same. Sun 9:30 a.m. show up to help open the show – unless like Saturday you volunteered for a later time. Work all day or at least your shift. Sun 5 p.m. after we close the show help pack up and take stuff back to the clubhouse – or your stuff home. Monday try to recover enough to come to the clubhouse for a work night – or just to commiserate on how tired we all are. If I left anything out I am sure someone will let me know. The blessing is it only comes once a year and we can handle one long weekend. Hopefully we will have a great turn out and we will have as much fun as we usually have doing it. I look forward to seeing everyone with bells on to enjoy themselves. IMPORTANT REMINDER: If you volunteered for a shift or job at the show and either are going to be late or can not make it: PLEASE: call my cell phone and let me know so we can find a replacement. Betty – 325-668-2374 MEMBERSHIP DUES The new membership list will be published before the business meeting in May. If you haven’t paid your dues, you won’t be on the membership list.

John Frank Woodward III (Trey) died of cancer March 5, 2011 at the age of 54. We will all miss him. There will be a Celebration of Life/Memorial for Trey Woodward on Saturday, April 30, 2011 , at the Woodward Ranch. It will be a potluck, noon to 4:00 (ish), bring a folding chair if you can and your best ‘Trey Stories.’ This will be a time we can all say good-bye to a great guy, a loyal friend, and lifetime rock hound. Losing Trey is a great loss, but it is not the end of the Woodward Ranch tradition. We continue to provide rock hunting, rv sites, cabins, and a rock shop. Our new hours of operation are: Thurs-days, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, 9:00 am until 5:00 pm . We look forward to seeing you on April 30. Jan Woodward

As always, what ever you work on at the shop, clean up after yourself. Don’t leave it for the next per-son. Report anything you think needs repairs. We don’t want anyone getting hurt.

Editor’s Notes: ++++++++++++++++++ If you have a story or a news item please email it to me at ctgms50@gmail Send it in email or as a Micro-soft Word document attach-ment. Remember to get it to me by the 20th of the month. I don’t know how many of you knew Trey Woodward from the

Woodward Ranch. My wife and I stayed several days in our RV a couple of years ago. He treated us like we were old friends from the start. He drew me a sketch of the roads on the ranch and told me where different types of rocks had been found and showed me what to look for. After that, he gave me the combination to the locks and let me have the run of the place. When he found out I was a land surveyor, he even offered to trade rock hunting for surveying! We really had a good time. When we got ready to leave, he wouldn’t let me pay for the rocks I found and even gave me some to tumble for our Rock Show. I went to my ranch just southwest of beautiful Dryden, Texas last weekend. It is dryer than I have seen it in 20 years of visiting that part of the country. The cacti are just beginning to bloom. The cactus with the purple bloom to the right is about the size of a quarter with a 2 inch bloom. The claret cup cacti are in full bloom. That was about the only thing showing any sign of life.

Gemstone of the Month Diamond

April's birthstone is remarkably simple in composition, yet stunning in its unique abil-ity to reflect and refract light into vivid flashes of brilliant color. The ancient Hin-dus called the Diamond "Vajra," meaning lightening, both because of the sparks of light thrown off by this gem as well as its invincible strength. The Diamond is harder than any other substance on earth. Diamonds have been revered throughout history. Used to embellish such items as crowns, swords and emblems as well as jewelry, they've even been part of national holidays. Queen Victoria declared the celebration of her 50th year of reign a "Diamond Jubilee." Diamonds have also been credited for having certain medicinal properties. During the middle ages, these gemstones were thought to heal illness, but only if the ailing person took the Diamond into bed to warm it up first! Formed deep within the earth where there is intense heat and pressure, Diamonds are simply crystallized carbon. Volcanic activity of centuries ago brought these gemstones to the earth's surface, where they are found either within volcanic rock formations or washed out into rivers. India is thought to be the first river-bed source of Diamond mining, but today these gemstones are found primarily in Australia, the Soviet Union, and Africa. No more notable it its uncut state than a plain pebble upon the beach, the true beauty of the Diamond was not revealed until the 16th century, when gemstone cut-ting and polishing techniques were per-fected. Prior to this time, it was considered taboo to modify the original state of a Dia-mond. Today, the value and appeal of this stone depends largely upon how skillfully it is cut and faceted. A gift of a Diamond is symbolic of everlasting love. There is no more convinc-ing a promise of an enduring relationship than the brilliant gemstone that has endured in people's hearts throughout the ages. http://www.about-birthstones.com/aprilbirthstone.html
