1. The key features of Indian Constitution are Parliamentary form of Government, Secularism,

Federalism, Separation of Power, Fundamental rights. (Any 2)

2. The Sepoys refused to do the army drill with new cartridges because it was coated with the fat

of cow and the pig. This violated their religious sentiments.

3. Domestic violence refers to the injury or harm or threat of injury or harm caused by an adult

male, usually the husband, against his wife. Injury may be caused by physically beating up the

women or emotionally abusing her.

4. Ways to conservation water- rain water harvesting, Canal to be properly lined, use of

sprinklers and use of drip or trickle irrigation. (Any 2)

5. Tribal was recruited to work in the coal fields of Jharkhand and in Assam Tea plantations.

1. There is need for Non- Conventional source of energy because-

a) The increasing use of fossil fuels is leading to their shortage.

b) If the present rate of their consumption continues, their conserves will get exhausted in the

future.

c) Their uses cause environmental pollution.

2. Under the colonial rule tribal chiefs powers and functions changed considerably.

a) They were allowed to keep their land titles over a cluster of villages and rent out

their lands.

b) They lost their administrative power and forced to follow laws made by the

British.

c) They had to pay tribute to the British and discipline the tribals.

d) They were unable to fulfil their traditional functions. (Any 3 points)

3. The Government has taken following steps to conserve natural vegetation and wild life.

a) National parks, wildlife sanctuaries and bio-reserves to protect them.

b) Banning indiscriminate killing of wildlife, hunting and poaching.

c) To encourage programmes like social forestry and Van-mahotsava.

d) School children can be encouraged to bird watch and visit nature camps. (Any3

points)

4. a) Ubiquitous Resources – Those resources which could be found everywhere. Ex- Land,

water, air

Localised Resources- Resources found only in certain places. Ex. Iron ore, copper,

gold, etc.

b) Renewable Resources- Those resources renewed or replenished quickly. Some of them

are unlimited and not affected by human activities.Ex. Solar and

wind energy.

Non-renewable Resources- These take thousands of years to be renewed or replenished.

They have limited stock. Ex.Coal, petroleum and natural gas

(1 ½ +1 ½=3) marks.

5. The Governor General Lord Dalhousie devised a called Doctrine of Lapse. The doctrine

declared that if an Indian ruler died without a male heir his kingdom would lapse. It would

become a part of Company territory.Ex.Jhansi, Sambalpur, Nagpur, Awadh

IV.ANSWER THE FOLLOWING IN DETAIL: (5X5=25)

1. a) Forest laws are - a) The British extended their control over all forests and declared that

forests were state property.

b) Some forests were classified as Reserved Forests for the timber as

the British wanted it. (2marks)

b) Impact on Tribal population - a) These forest people were not allowed to move

freely, collect fruits or hunt animals.

b) Many were forced to move to other areas in search

of work and livelihood.

c) The Jhum cultivators were not allowed to practise

Jhum cultivation. (3marks)

2. The Parliament begins with a question hour.

The question hour is an important mechanism through which MP’s elicit information about the

working of the government. It is

important way through which the Parliament controls the executive. By

asking questions, the government is alerted to its shortcoming and also comes to know the

opinion of the through their MPs in the Parliament.

3. a) Factors leading to soil degradation are deforestation, overgrazing, overuse of chemical

fertilisers, pesticides, rain wash, landslides and floods. (Any 4) 2marks

b) Measures to conserve soil resources are -Mulching, Terrace farming, Contour farming,

contour barrier, Rock dam (Explain any 3) (3 Marks) refer pg. no. 14 – Geo reader.

4. a) A naturally occurring substance that has a definite Chemical composition is a mineral.

The mineral are classified into metallic and non-metallic minerals. (2marks)

b) Uses of minerals are - a) They are used for gems.

b) They are set in various styles for jewellery.

c) Copper is used in everything from coins to pipes.

d) Silicon is used in computer industry. (Any 3) 3marks

a) The peasants and Zamindars resented the high taxes and also the rigid method of

revenue collection.
