The Outcomes Measurement Project, Phase 2: An Overview for Educators In this project we want to find out about the impact of the current Inclusion Support Program on the inclusive practices of early and middle childhood services across Australia. To do this, we want to gather the perspectives and experiences of the people who work in these services and the inclusion professionals who work with services. We are very grateful for the eorts of each person who participated in the first set of surveys in 2018. Thank you. Your responses on the surveys are a very important part of developing our understanding of inclusive practices and supports. We are now asking you to participate in the second and final phase of this project. This will enable us to measure change over the past year, how the Inclusion Support Program supports inclusive practices within a range of eligible early and middle childhood services and how supports can be further developed. To do this we are asking you to participate in the phase 2 surveys. The surveys will be open from 15th of July to the 15th of November, 2019. The Inclusion Support Program aims to increase and support inclusion within early and middle childhood services across Australia. In recognising the capabilities and capacities of services to facilitate inclusion, through this project we want to listen to the perspectives and experiences of the people who work in all roles within early and middle childhood services. This will enable us to learn about the current and evolving capabilities to practice inclusively. Investigating current capacities is important in considering ongoing and changing support needs, within the services supported through the Inclusion Support Program. The intention of the project is to learn from your experiences, in order to work towards further developing fully inclusive experiences for children, families and the wider community. In this project we are asking you to complete a survey to help us understand your perspectives on and experiences of supporting inclusion in your service. The Outcomes Measurement Project, Phase 2: An Overview for Educators

In this project we want to find out about the impact of the current Inclusion Support Program on the inclusive practices of early and middle childhood services across Australia. To do this, we want to gather the perspectives and experiences of the people who work in these services and the inclusion professionals who work with services.

We are very grateful for the efforts of each person who participated in the first set of surveys in 2018.

This will enable us to learn about the current and evolving capabilities to practice inclusively. Inclusion is important because…

Inclusion is important because it is about everyone. Inclusive education is about each child, family/caregiver, and all the people working within any given service, as well as the people within the surrounding local community.

Inclusive education leads to positive outcomes for all children and families within inclusive services, as well as leading to positive outcomes for educators, who have been found to experience increased personal and professional satisfaction when practising inclusively.

impact of the Inclusion Support Program in supporting you to address participation barriers and embed quality inclusive practices into the delivery of early and middle childhood services. However, if you did not complete the survey in 2018 you are still welcome to participate now.

The aim of the survey is to learn from you about what facilitates inclusion and what barriers need to be addressed to enable you to practice inclusively.

If you gave us your email address in the first survey then we will email you a link to the survey. Otherwise you can register for this study at: https://mqedu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_2izKsHsgDmCpJeB. You will receive a link to the online survey. From this link you can pause and come back to this survey as many times as you wish or need to.

You can complete the survey individually or as a group within your service. In this survey, we will ask you to share your current reflections, thoughts, and ideas about how inclusion is understood, practiced and experienced within your service. Your inclusion professional can answer any questions you may have, or you can email us at: [email protected]. We will monitor this email address throughout the data collection timeframe.

There are two main types of questions in this survey. These are short answer questions where you share your perspectives directly, and statements, where you are asked to select or rate a level of agreement or disagreement, select the relevant or most appropriate option from a drop-down box, or to answer ‘yes’ or ‘no’.

The survey will take about 30 minutes of your time. Your responses will be treated as private and confidential at all times. No person or service will be identified at any time. Your participation is voluntary.

We value your time greatly and have designed the survey to contribute to, rather than be an addition to, your current work. While this project is separate to any accreditation processes, the questions in this survey were developed to correspond with quality areas, standards and elements of the National Quality Framework relevant to the principles and practice of inclusive education. As such, the survey can be used to support planning, and for documentation of inclusion support.

Thank you.

This project is important because…

As stated in the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) (DEEWR, 2009, p. 7): “experiencing belonging –

knowing where and with whom you belong – is

integral to human existence”.

However, to belong, we need to be included. Inclusive education is an important ‘big idea’, but to bring about inclusion in practice, this idea needs to be lived out in everyday moments and experiences. Throughout this project, the focus is on everyday inclusive practice within services, aiming to provide key information to support the Inclusion Support Program.
