What are grains?

Grains are foods that come from rice, oats, wheat, barley, or corn plants.

Grains are sometimes called the staple of our diet—we eat more grains than almost any other kind of food. The average person should eat 6 1-ounce servings of grains per day. This equals 6 slices of bread.

Bread, pasta, rice, and cereal come from grains.
