fields, but there is one student in

particular that we want to recognize

by all the experiences and goals she

obtained in recent years. Andrea

Montoya, a graduate of the 2014

promotion is not just any student, is

an institutional pride. Go to page 2

CULTURAL EVENTS

Since the beginning of the school, the

institution has preserved the

tradition of cultural events,

commemorating each date with

national and international

significance, including acts of

domestic value. Therefore The IEC

Post wants to commemorate this

recognizing these same events that

have taken place in 2015. Go to page

SCHOOL GOVERNMENT

From the beginning of the year, the

topic about school government

begins to resonate between the

school walls. Who will postulate?

Who will I vote? Who will win? Now

the decisions have been taken and

the students have their

representatives. The IEC Post spoke

with these representatives and asked

them about their experience

assuming the office. Go to page 4 for

SPORTS

The great Juan Diego Orlas, a

graduate from the Institución

Educativa Colombia, has represented

to our country in national and

international championships,

winning titles and setting records in

their sport, the cycling. Even so, the

purpose of The IEC Post is not talking

about his feats; in this case we want

to talk about all other champions of

the institution. Go to page 5 for more

information.

“THE TEACHER’S STRIKE”

The situation about the teacher’s strike that is happening actually is a topic that come prowling since some weeks

ago, still, some students don’t understand what happen or why. The IEC Post talks with the student’s president,

Jhonatan Sossa, to him tell us what is he knows about the situation. This is what he said:

“I think that teachers strike is necessary, because the professors are fighting for their welfare and their rights

that have been violated by long time. Also, it seems appropriate that teachers teach us to fight for our rights with the

facts, i.e., with what is usually called "lead by example". Simultaneously I think that students are also affected

directly and form in one way or another part of the conflict, therefore we should serve as support and/or allies in

this fight.”

It is a situation that involves the entire school community, so this Post saw the need to report about the situation to

help you to take sides in this situation.

“The idea of being student's president arose since 2013 when I became comptroller.” At first Andrea doubted her ability to face the charge but with the support of her classmates and her family she was motivating to take the place. “At the beginning as comptroller I had to face many fears, I had to appropriate this position, I had to speak in public and assume many responsibilities,” said Andrea. The candidate forum was a great opportunity to demonstrate the ability to take the charge and so it was like she won the support of many students. In 2014 Andrea decided to run as candidate to student's president with the purpose of representing the students well and let up the name of the institution. “It was much easier, because I had more confidence, many students already knew me and they knew what my capabilities were.”

Today, students say with certainty that we had one of the best comptrollers and student's president of the institution, even in the town.

THE ICFES

It is not an experience, but it is a goal. Andrea told us what the keys were to get the great position (#21) which she won in the state tests.

“Having the opportunity to have a PreICFES in the municipality was crucial because I had excellent teachers who allowed me to enjoy knowledge. The ICFES is an index that measures the quality of education, so there was always some pressure from all school teachers because they expect good results in their students, also from the test's results depend some benefits, like the resources and the recognition for the school.” Andrea just keep calm and did something that she does very well, be the best.

AN UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE

Andrea approved requirements and exceeded a lot of steps to achieve a historic trip to Japan.

An experience that we couldn’t believe until we saw her there. This is the story:

An agreement between the municipality of Girardota and the Government of Antioquia emerged the possibility that among the members of the network of student's presidents of the municipality elect a member to represent Colombia in a science fair that was to be held in Nagaokakyo, Japan. This member would be accompanied by three other people who had already been selected. Fortunately, Andrea advanced at all stages of the selection process and was chosen to represent our country. The group presented in Japan a drone robot that would help determines the state of the soil. His project was exhibited with works from 19 other countries. Andrea thinks was an opportunity of knowledge, known places, cultures, people, learnings and she also had the opportunity to show our culture. It was a journey that totally worth it.

Andrea has only 17 years and has achieved a lot of things, we want to she continues enriching experiences and follows as an example for all students from the Institución Educativa Colombia.

ANDDREA MONTOYA:

AN INSTITUIONAL PRIDE

Andrea, a graduate of the institution, has stood out since her

beginning in her school, but was exactly in the eleventh grade

where higher left school name, getting institutional, national

and even international achievements.

STUDENT’S PRESIDENT

Andrea will always be remembered as one of the best student’s

president that has had the Institución Educativa Colombia, The

IEC Post asked to Andrea about the origin of his desire to be

student’s president; this is what she said:

Government School Possession

This commemoration is the most important for the institution, because that's when delivery is made to the ombudsman and comptroller student of his litter to be chosen by students and on behalf of pampering.

March 22 “Water Day”

On this date it commemorates the

existence of water and the

importance of this for survival in

the world, creating awareness

with videos and reflective

activities.

Women’s/Men’s Day

These days always are present in

the institution and importance

sex difference, the value us each

as individuals.

CULTURAL EVENTS

A TRADITION IN OUR INSTITUTION Our school have a duty to train students in all aspects that revolve around this, therefore the institution efforts are

made by generating activities easy to understand and they can capture the attention students, between these

activities they are cultural events, carried out mainly to commemorate each day It is considered important

national and international level, a part of the celebrations institutional and educational level showing didactically

an easy and effective way to learn and understand. Cultural events are an important pillar to contribute formation,

further this requires the student relates with the surrounding environment socialize and question. Coming up next

we present them some of the same.

THE STUDENT’S PRESIDENT

Jhonatan Sossa is the student’s president chosen in the 2015, The IEC Post asked him about his experience in the office. This is what he answered:

"Although from the day of possession until today it has been times relatively short, I assume it as the period of adaptation to the position, i.e., accustom to change the daily routine for an endless of responsibilities. I stopped hanging out with my friends to perform tasks destined for the sake of an educational institution, but at the same time it’s gratifying to see that I can contribute a "grain of sand" to the institution which saw me grow and shaped me as a person."

THE COMPTROLLER

Estiven García was selected by the students for inform us and be responsible for the proper use of the resources that the institution has. We asked about his experience in office and this is what we answered:

"In the little time I have been in my position as comptroller, I had one of my best life experiences, performing campaigns, feeling the great support of my classmates and receiving the affection of all the children in the institution. These are experiences that remind me that I have learned and what I am today. Assuming the office deprives us of some things, it requires time and dedication so inside and outside the institution.

The best thing about being in this position is the opportunity to meet people and help the educational community, undoubtedly I am proud to represent the institution and provide it everything within my reach to this."

“THE STUDENTS CHOICES”

The school government is without a doubt the topic most important that can have the Institución Educativa

Colombia, because everything that happens is attributed to people that conform this government and allow us to

demonstrate democracy that exists in the country. In this article we will discuss specifically students who

represent the students, of which every year we hope continue leaving up the name of the school.

Students have taken their decision and chose those who thought more

suitable to take on these tasks; our representatives are in good steps and

we wish to they achieve the best during its instance in office.

TANIA ALVARINO

Tania began to train natation thanks to her parents that start her in classes since 2005. Since then, she has dedicated to train with discipline and effort.

Since then until the present day, Tania has had a good performance in competences and tournaments, doing always very good times and occupies a place in the podium between the first three posts. Recently she participated in the metropolitan intercollegiate games, in this competition every participant represents his college, classifying phase to phase, since municipal level until the national level, in this case were three phases.

The first phase was made in Girardota facing among the municipality schools, Tania classified making the best of times in each style. The second phase was made in Envigado, facing against all schools in the metropolitan area. Tania was the seventh best time, but unfortunately only classified in the next round the top five.

Tania is very proud by go so far and overcome their brands, but more than everything she is proud by letting so high the school name.

The young Jorge Andres Arenas Morales, student from the Institución Educativa Colombia and soccer player won with his team Girardota Fútbol Club the Antioquia Football League last year 2014, against the club Futuro Antioquia with a scoreboard (1-0) and closed the conquest of the title of the Antioquia Soccer League. The Girardota’s team won the championship with three dates in advance at the end of the course, with a notable advantage over the other teams. This is the second time in the history that this club wins the Antioquia Soccer League, the first time was in 2005 against the club Futurama. This victory represents a notable contribution to the Institución Educativa Colombia by the level in its sports classes because they improve the performance of the athlete and seek that him each time the search be better and him realize that in their sport can overcome to himself.

Also, in this team is not only Jorge, there are other students of the Institution Educational Colombia too.

VALERIA CADAVID

Valeria began to train Basketball in 2011, she says that it is and sport very funny and it demands so much discipline and endurance.

Valeria's first win came when she was offered to participate in the municipality intercollegiate games. Despite the hard competition that exists to this sport, with only the first tournament the Valeria's team won the title letting up the institution name. This win was very important and representative for school, it generated joy and pride, but the most important was the support obtained for this sport in the institution.

Thanks to Valeria and many other athletes, we are honored to can say that we have the best institutional athletes in the municipality. From The IEC Post we expect the school continues on this way, letting up their name, getting many wins and following their dreams.
