Replacing your windows is nothing to scoff at. As you’ll be making a significant investment to improve your home, you’re going to want to make sure that every dollar you spend is put to good use. There are different ways to make the most out of window replacement but nothing more important than letting a professional handle the job.

THE IMPORTANCE OF PROFESSIONAL WINDOW INSTALLATION

At the heart of it, professional installation ensures that all conditions are met to allow your window to perform as they are designed. Finding the right windows is a part of big part of ensuring your satisfaction with a replacement job but even the best windows will perform poorly if not properly installed. By enlisting the aid of a professional in installing your windows, you get to avoid misaligned and/or damaged windows that don’t just affect a replacement’s appearance but its function as well.

Windows are made to be airtight to contribute to your home’s overall insulation but faulty installation can greatly reduce a replacement’s ability to boost energy efficiency in the home. Misaligned or damaged, a replacement window is likely to develop air leakage, making it difficult to maintain indoor temperature in your home. And when indoor temperature is difficult to maintain, your HVAC system has to work doubly hard to stabilize the environment inside your home, pushing it to guzzle energy, which will be reflected on your electricity bill.

PART I: SETTING THE RIGHT FOUNDATION - WORKING WITH A PROFESSIONAL

By letting a professional install your window, you know that you’ve got it in the very best of hands. These people work on windows day in and day out; they know how to handle them without damaging them, and they’re also likely to have tips and tricks for installing your windows properly that you wouldn’t have known to use.

By going with a professional installation, you can let your worries go and instead just sit back and let the people with the right training install your windows for you. At the end of the day, you’ll know that your windows are installed right, and that you’re getting the most out of your new windows.

So what’s the ideal window installation process like? Let’s get started on that in Part 2. Stay tuned!

Finding the right professional to work sets you up to ensure that your windows will be properly installed. What’s next once you have that down? Here’s what you can expect of the window installation process:

CUSTOMIZED WINDOW SOLUTIONS

One part of providing you with customized window solutions means ensuring that you zero in on the right replacement windows for your home. After an in-home consultation, a window professional will go over available options with you, recommending replacement windows to address your needs exactly. The other part of offering customized window solutions lies in ensuring that your windows will literally be the perfect fit so that means exact measurements for an installation area will be taken. No two homes are alike, after all, and so no two installations will ever be exactly the same.

PREPARING FOR THE INSTALLATION

An installation crew will be sent over to your home once your new windows are ready. Of course, this will be done based on a schedule that works for you. Before the actual installation, however, a window professional’s team will be prepping your home, which includes helping move around furniture to clear space. This is also the time that all tools and equipment will be brought in, including the installer’s own power supply.

PART 2: INSTALLING WINDOWS RIGHT - WHAT TO EXPECT

OUT WITH THE OLD...

Once the installation crew finishes setting up, they are ready to remove your old windows, taking great pains to ensure that the area around your window is not damaged. Window removal will undoubtedly make a mess but you don’t have to worry about anything because the installation crew will take care of that after the job.

...AND IN WITH THE NEW

Once the window openings are clear, installing your new custom-fitted windows will be a snap. Sometimes openings can become unlevel but the installation crew will do easy work of the issue and have your windows installed perfectly. After a window operation test is done and everything seems to be in proper working order, all that’s left are the finishing touches to wrap up the installation.

Your new windows are in, but the installation process is not quite done yet. See what else is left to do in Part 3!

PART 2: INSTALLING WINDOWS RIGHT - WHAT TO EXPECT

Your replacement window is now ready, but not quite yet! There are still a few finishing touches that the installation crew has to do, including:

WEATHERPROOFING YOUR HOME...

No matter how good your windows fit, there will always be some small amount of space between the window frame and the opening in your wall. Custom-fitted and –designed windows leave much less of a gap than you might have with another product, but it’s a gap nonetheless. To address this issue, insulating foam will be placed around your window, turning it airtight. Depending on the installation crew you’re working with, it’s possible that they may have their own specially designed insulating foam to seal those gaps perfectly.

...AND COVERING UP THE FOAM

Insulating foam is a great weatherstripping ally but it’s not exactly known for its beauty. Good thing that it’s usually covered up! After they are done applying insulating foam, the installation crew move on to installing trims on your window. As it covers insulating foam, trim also serve as a water-resistant barrier that protects foam insulation from moisture exposure.

PART 3: AFTER AN INSTALLATION

CLEANING UP

Insulating foam? Check. Trim? Check. The last thing that the installation crew will do is to remove the protective film over your window and polish the window glass so that it shines. Now that everything is in place, it’s time for the installation crew to clean up after themselves, removing all debris resulting from the job and moving back all furniture around the installation area. By the time they’re done, they’ll make it look like nothing even happened.

Window installation is generally a straightforward process but not a lot of homeowners know what goes into it. Knowing what to expect will give you peace of mind to help make replacing your windows an enjoyable project.
