(Photo by Jack Sheaffer) Outdoor-Indoor Living Marks Rubinstein Home Entire Back of Beautiful Modern House Constructed of Glass Walls By MILDRED CHANIN Beauty, lots of storage space, and the outdoor-indoor way of life are combined in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Irving Rubinstein. This modern home, which was designed by the former office of Sylvia and William Wilde, architects, was built hall has a glass wall; so not only is the play area large but also bright. To further aid the housewife a beautiful vinyl asbestos flooring, which is easy to care for, has been used from the children’s bed- rooms through the kitchen and into the dining room, j THE MASTER bathroom at the side of the house contains a large terraza bath- tub and outdoors on the other side of the glass wall is a lily pond built the same size as the tub. The patio wall which encloses the area lends pri- vacy to this most unusual bathroom. The large master bedroom also has a wall formed by glass. Above the bed is a switch by which the owners can turn off or on the heating, lights, and inter-communica- tion system in the house. by Mr. Rubinstein who is a general contractor. THE ENTIRE back of the home is glass and opens on to the patio. The effect is one of extreme spaciousness and light. The tremendous number of closets and storage areas are designed to make a place for everything in the home. Clos- ets form one entire wall of Oie children’s bathroom. Stor- age cabinets are built across the children’s rooms over the beds. Place for outdoor play toys is provided in one out- door wall nearest the chil- dren’s playroom. Two walls of the master bedroom are formed by clos- ets and cabinets. Bookcases and cabinets form one section of the livingroom. In fart, each room has the ultimate in storage space. The all electric kitchen is a delight for the housekeeper. The wall hung refrigerator, ly plagued with the problem j of “where shall our children J play” will particularly appre- ciate the children’s rooms in the Rubinstein household. The two children’s rooms, each of which measures 9’ 9” x 12’ 4”, are divided by slid- ing panels which can be pulled back to make a large play area. The side walls are also slid- ing walls and by pushing them back the play area in- cludes the hall and becomes a 19’ 6” x 17’ 4” room which opens on to the patio. The i— 77 ! the dishwasher, the built-in oven, and the ‘inbuilt mixer blender’ (which replaces the usual electric mixer and blender) all aid in keeping the kitchen uncluttered and easy to clean. Even the sliding door cupboards just above the sink hide the various cleansers and kitchen aids necessary to the housewife. Beauty, lots of storage space, and the outdoor-indoorway of life are combined in the home of Mr. and Mrs.Irving Rubinstein.

This modern home, which was designed by the former

office of Sylvia and William Wilde, architects, was built
