Rubinstein home is almost completely tailor-built of glass walls.
The home combines comfort and utility with beauty and has
many built-in features and specially designed bedrooms for
youngsters. The high patio wall in the foreground of the pic-

Beauty, lots of storage space, and the outdoor-indoorway of life are combined in the home of Mr. and Mrs.Irving Rubinstein.
This modern home, which was designed by the former
office of Sylvia and William Wilde, architects, was built
hall has a glass wall; so notonly is the play area largebut also bright. To furtheraid the housewife a beautifulvinyl asbestos flooring, whichis easy to care for, has beenused from the children’s bed-
rooms through the kitchenand into the dining room,
j THE MASTER bathroomat the side of the housecontains a large terraza bath-tub and outdoors on the otherside of the glass wall is a lilypond built the same size asthe tub. The patio wall whichencloses the area lends pri-vacy to this most unusualbathroom.
The large master bedroom

by Mr. Rubinstein who is a
general contractor.
THE ENTIRE back of thehome is glass and opens onto the patio. The effect is oneof extreme spaciousness andlight.
The tremendous number ofclosets and storage areas are
designed to make a place foreverything in the home. Clos-ets form one entire wall ofOie children’s bathroom. Stor-age cabinets are built acrossthe children’s rooms over thebeds. Place for outdoor playtoys is provided in one out-
door wall nearest the chil-dren’s playroom.
Two walls of the masterbedroom are formed by clos-ets and cabinets. Bookcasesand cabinets form one sectionof the livingroom. In fart,
each room has the ultimate instorage space.
The all electric kitchen is adelight for the housekeeper. The wall hung refrigerator,
ly plagued with the problem jof “where shall our children Jplay” will particularly appre-ciate the children’s rooms inthe Rubinstein household. The two children’s rooms, each of which measures 9’ 9”x 12’ 4”, are divided by slid-ing panels which can bepulled back to make a largeplay area.
The side walls are also slid-ing walls and by pushingthem back the play area in-cludes the hall and becomes a19’ 6” x 17’ 4” room whichopens on to the patio. The

to clean. Even the sliding doorcupboards just above the sinkhide the various cleansers andkitchen aids necessary to thehousewife.

ators select patterned carpet-ing. The colors may be repeat-ed in the drapery, upholsteryand wall finish. For a largeroom or one with relativelylittle furniture, a patternedcarpet is an excellent choicebecause it creates a well-fur-nished appearance.
Today’s patterns offer youa range from modern random-designs to formal all-over ef-fects.
SOLID CARPET is general-ly basic in style to blendeasily with any patterneddraperies or upholstery. In
j Tucson many homemakershomemakers wisely choose
jrough, handloomed texturesjin a solid color to tie-in withour casual, informal living. In today’s generally smallerhomes, the single expanse ofcolor is particularly desirablebecause it appears to increasethe size of the room.
For easy care, choose lightor medium solid colors. Al-though less practical, darkcolors are much more drama- |tic, particularly with light ;walls and fabrics.
TONE-ON-TONE carpet of- jfers the adaptability of solid jcolors plus the interest and j
practical advantages of pat- jtern.
