Inside this issue:
October at Wellington Heights
has flown by once again! We
have had so many exciting events
and activities going on in the
classrooms, on the fields and
courts. Our students have contin-
ued to demonstrate that they are
engaged, eager to participate, and
that they care about their peers
and their community. We have
great students leaders...not only
because of their abilities; but
equally as important, because of
the example they set for others in
areas such as sportsmanship and
teamwork. Thank you to our
teachers for volunteering so much
of your time to coach and organ-
ize events, and to parents who
help out with officiating, trans-
porting, and just plain cheering
for our Huskies!
Looking into November, we have
a few events coming up. On
November 11th we will be com-
ing together as a school communi-
ty at our Remembrance Day As-
sembly to recognize the selfless
acts of many on behalf of all Ca-
nadians. The assembly will begin
at 10:30 am. Visitors are wel-
come. November 21-25 is Bully-
ing Prevention/Awareness Week.
We will be planning some class-
room/school activities to hi-lite
this topic with our staff and stu-
dents to continue to work on
building a positive community
here at WHPS! Wellington
Heights is a great place to
be….and we all need to work hard
at making it even better!
Our newly formed Spirit Commit-
tee has been meeting and is work-
ing hard to come up with activi-
ties that build school a sense of
belonging and spirit within the
school, and different ways that we
might connect with the communi-
ty. They have some great ideas
that we will be putting into action.
Our Chair, Emmerson. S, and our
Co-chair, Jenna C, will be provid-
ing monthly updates in our news-
letter about upcoming events.
Stay tuned for more from our
student leaders!
Last week I had a chance to visit
our new Wellington Heights site
where much progress is being
made! The footings are all in and
much of the work to update the
current building is well underway.
Will be monitoring progress and
sharing the excitement with our
students throughout the year!
was created by Esme and Eloise.
Once built, Miss Church asked the
question “so how do you get to the
top of your tower”. With the help of
Nora, the team of builders created
a very elaborate stairway. Mr.
Leduc visited the classroom and
was particularly impressed with
how the group carefully thought
out the stair way, and through
some trial and error, came up with
an impressive means of supporting
the stair way. I love your thinking
Go ‘Eng’ Girls!
On October 22nd, Rheagan and Jillian from Mr. Teal’s grade 7 class, went to
McMaster University in Hamilton to attend the Go Eng Girls’ Engineering pro-
gram. We listened to students from the engineering programs talk about the
different types of engineering. There was also a graduate from the Optic En-
gineering program who spoke about her time as an international student at
McMaster University. She was very interesting and told us that people
thought she was ‘weird’ because usually men go into the engineering profes-
sion. This is why the Go Eng Girls program was created—to show that women
and girls can become engineers as well. After the question round, we were
divided into groups and we went into a classroom where we made a vibrating
object using a motor and a circuit. There were a lot of small pieces and it was
really cool to make this object. First year engineering students helped us

Courage
In November, we will be focusing on COURAGE ! Right off the
bat, we often think of Remembrance Day when we think of cour-
age because of the bravery shown by all of the soldiers who have
fought to try to make the world a better and safer place. Howev-
er....courage is shown by ordinary people every single day !
Think of the many different ways that the people around you
show Courage!
Bus Delays and Expectations
As our year has started off; our new bus procedures at WHPS have worked very well. Our senior students have been
incredibly helpful with getting our younger students ready for the bus. On a few occasions there have been some ex-
tended bus delays due to a driver being unfamiliar with the route, or due to mechanical problems en-route. When a
bus will be delayed by more than 10 minutes, NSTS will post the delay on their website. You can access this infor-
mation at www.NSTS.ca. Better yet, if you enter the NSTS portal, you can sign in using your child’s Ontario Educa-
tion Number (OEN) which can be found on their report card and then subscribe to the “delay and cancellation” mod-
ule to receive direct and timely emails regarding student transportation that impacts your child.
The school bus is an extension of the school and for safety reasons the following rules are in place and need to be
followed. Riding the bus is a privilege. If a student abuses this privilege, alternate transportation arrangements will
have to be made by the parent. These rules also pertain to grade 7 & 8 students travelling to DS&T. Students should
stay seated at all times and abide by the seating plan provided. Do not yell or shout; it is distracting to the driver.
Keep your hands to yourself and keep all body parts inside the bus. For hygiene and safety, students can not eat on
the bus. Follow school rules and solve problems with words. Students are not allowed to change buses or take guests
A big thank-you to all of you for calling in
when your child is going to be absent or
late. We appreciate your assistance each
day as it allows the office to ensure that all
students are accounted for in a very efficient manner.
Practice Makes…….For Some Very Good Volleyball
Our girls’ and boys’ intermediate volleyball teams have spent much of their before school and dur-
ing recess time practice their volleyball skills and team strategy. Here the boys and girls are
scrimmaging against one another as their season winds down and they are heading into the
playoffs and preparing for the DSBN tournament on November 15. Both teams are playing some
very entertaining volleyball and are great representatives of Wellington Heights. Keep at it teams;
your commitment and hard work are paying off! Thanks to coaches Mr. Teal, Mr. Blacquiere and
Mrs. Barnes.

NIAGARA FALLS.
Congratulations to all of our DSBN cross country runners! You were outstanding representa-
tives of Wellington Heights! Mr. Ford and Mme Corbeil would like to thank you all for an-
other great season. Thank you to them both as well for committing their time to working with our athletes.
Great work runners:
Huskies
Earn
Silver!
On Saturday, Oct.
29th, the Girls Inter-
mediate Volleyball
Team played in the
John Haeni Classic
Tourney at Eden
Secondary School.
The Tournament
included 16 of the
best teams from
across the DSBN.
As a result of great
teamwork and de-
termination, the Huskies played some of their best volleyball of the year earning
a first place spot in their Pool.
With a top finish, they moved on to the Gold Division Quarter Finals where they
defeated one of the biggest schools in the DSBN, Prince Phillip Niagara Falls in 2
straight sets. From that point on, the competition only got more intense as they made their way to the Gold
Semi-Final Match against a great rival, Power Glen. Power Glen took the first set, but the Girls dug deep and
turned the tide to win the next 2 in a row giving them a birth into the Championship Game!
All eyes were on the Final Match as the Huskies faced a very-talented team from Jean Sauve coached
by none other than John Haeni himself. The battle was fierce and Jean Sauve came up with a victory in the
first set. Again, the Huskies responded with incredible tenacity against their toughest opponent and won the
second set forcing the Championship Game to go to a 3rd
and final game. In the end, it came down to the wire
with Jean Sauve taking the third by a narrow margin of 15-12.
After all was said and done, the Wellington Heights Huskies came away with the Silver Medal which is
an incredible accomplishment against the best teams in our entire Board of 80 schools.
The Girls should be incredibly proud of their perseverance, determination, and teamwork as they out-
hustled, out-worked, and out-played their way to an incredible finish. Well done Huskies!

School Advisory Council:
The School Advisory Council will be meeting again on Wednesday, November 30 at 6:30 pm. At our
last meeting, Miss MacKenzie and Mrs. Keus presented some great information to the council looking
at the value and rationale for the “Maker-Space” program. Thank you to council for considering their
request for support, and thank you Miss MacKenzie and Mrs. Keus for taking the time to put the presen-
tation together...the hands on activity was very engaging :) Child care will be provided for those who
require the support.
**Mrs. N. Furlong will once again be coordinating the development of the school year book. She asks
