Charlie Bond whose father-in-law has died tragicallyMark Neaceʼs father who is still fighting the complications of hip replacement surgery

Mark Neace's father was still fighting the complications of hip replacement surgery. Patsy Watson led the Pledge of Allegiance and The Star Spangled Banner. Andy Caro-thers, assisted by Bill Sleeper, introduced the visitors and guests, including the new prin-cipal at Hillcrest H.S. and three Interact stu-dents. PP Bill Sleeper introduced our Back the Blue honoree, Frank Casana. Shawn Foster introduced our Marketplace Adverti-ser of the Week. Kathleen Klaviter repor-ted on our RCPC Foundation; currently it is about $1.2 Million. The interest is used to fund grants in the community, as well as RCPC's

projects. She then recognized PP Cleve Clinton and Will Reppeto as second level Frank Monroe Fellows. Bart Noble thanked

with RYLA for the last several years. He intro-duced the students from Hillcrest Interact who attended Camp RYLA, Eduardo DeLeon, Kuu-kuwa Koomson and Keyhan Rezvan. Each re-maked how much they enjoyed the camp and how it changed them. Bart said that Sheriff Lupe Valdez would be speaking at Interact on Wednesday. Every one is welcome to attend and to see what Interact was about. Tom Swift introduced our newest member Rene Santana.

Daniel Drabinski intro-duced our speaker today, Dr.

Michael Hinojosa, Super-intendent of the Dallas ISD He said he had been a CEO of school districts for over twenty years, and he had been a part of Rotary in

several cities. He left Dallas a few years ago to go to Atlanta and had retired, when he was asked to return to Dallas ISD as Interim Super-intendent He said that people believe you can-not get a good education in DISD, but that is not true. They are starting new initiatives to help young children get ready; they are start-ing hàlf-day programs for three year olds and full day Pre-K for four year olds. He said that about forty percent of students in DISD are English language learners. They are going to address the issue of school choice by crea-ting more magnet school programs. An elem-entary has been converted into a successful girls' school focusing on STEM subjects. They are expanding the successful Early College where students graduate from high school with diplomas and Associate Degrees. They are al-so starting programs where industries are par-tnering with high schools. American Airlines and AT&T are involved. Chief Brown, from the Dallas PD will head up a new Police Academy.

Andy Caro-thers for his invol-ve-ment
