1796 - U.S. President Washington's farewell address was published. 1876 - Melville R. Bissell patented the carpet sweeper. 1881 - James A. Garfield died of wounds from an assassin. The 20th U.S. president lived for 11 weeks after the wounds were inflicted. 1934 - Bruno Hauptman was arrested in New York and charged with the kidnapping and murder of the in-fant son of Charles and Anna Lindbergh.

DISTRICT 7470 PRESIDENTS BALL

This past Saturday evening, members of our club attended the annual Presidents Ball at the Mayfair Farms in West Orange. The Presidents Ball is a yearly event where all clubs are encouraged to participate to support, cheer, and applaud their club's current president for all their work, effort and enthusiasm they ex-hibit. Along with Presidents from throughout the district, President Jean was recognized and thanked for her

service as club president this year.

ROCKAWAY ROTARY AT “CELEBRATE ROCKAWAY BOROUGH DAY”

GIFT OF LIFE MISSION

A GOL mission to El Salvador , sponsored by Gift of Life International, will begin on Novem-ber 27, 2011. A team of 12-14 medical professionals will travel to El Salvador to provide life-saving treatment for up to 20 children. The total cost of the mission is $20,000 and is being supported by ten Rotary Clubs and two individual donors. The Rockaway Rotary Club, at our Board of Directors meeting on September 9th, approved the request of GOL to release our accumulated donations of $1381 for this effort. The board also approved the donation

of additional funds to raise our total commitment to$2000 towards this GOL mission. The annual meeting for New Jersey Gift of Life will be held at Ravello's Ristorante in East Hanover on Tuesday, October 25th.

This year’s Gift of Life Gala will take place on March 30, 2012 at The Villa in Mountain Lakes.
