Why Firstborn?• Ex 4:22 Then say to Pharaoh, “This is what the

male. The first offspring of every womb among the Israelites belongs to me, whether man or animal."

• Deut 21:17 “…firstborn by giving him a double share of all he has.”

• 1 Chron 5:2 “… and though Judah was the strongest of his brothers and a ruler came from him, the rights of the firstborn belonged to Joseph”

But God – Plan of Salvation• Exodus 12:3 Tell the whole community of Israel that on

the tenth day of this month each man is to take a lamb for his family, one for each household.

• 7 Then they are to take some of the blood and put it on the sides and tops of the doorframes of the houses where they eat the lambs.

• 12 "On that same night I will pass through Egypt and strike down every firstborn--both men and animals--and I will bring judgment on all the gods of Egypt. I am the Lord. 13 The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are; and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt.

1. What is God’s provision for our problem of sin and separation from him here and now?

1 John 2: 1-2 “… if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense--Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.
