WORDS FROM PR. CHRISTIE2019 Year in Review

Whew! Where did 2019 go? It’s 2020, and I’ve been your pastor now for ONE YEAR. It’s gone very quickly.

This has been an amazing year. I’m thinking back…what all happened this year? It was quite a blur.

My 2019 kicked off with my ordination on January 12, in Indianapolis. The weather outside was FRIGHTFUL, and many of you were unable to make the journey to Indy. In spite of the weather, we had a beautiful ordination ceremony.

And the next two Sundays… we canceled church! I was so excited to wear my new stoles and be

with you, but the weather had other plans.

The year moved along quickly as we c e l e b r a t e d m y ins ta l l a t i on w i th

Pastor Bob Abrams here at Hope on February 24, and then we moved right into Lent.

Lent was a beautiful time of community for us. We shared activities and worship with St. Paul United

C h u r c h o f C h r i s t , G r o e s b e c k U n i t e d Methodist, and the Clippard Y M C A . S h e n a n i g a n s abounded as Judy Royse a n d t h e f e l l o w s h i p committee held our Blarney Blast family evening for St. Patrick’s Day. And yes, I did think the Easter dove was flying straight for my head.

Summer may have been the first time I took a breath, although that wasn’t quiet either. From

Synod Assembly to King’s Island with the youth, and attending a Congregational V i t a l i t y Conference for pastors, it was an a c t i v e a n d exciting summer.

Moving into fall, our Congregational Vitality Team began training at The Collaborative Retreat, and then suddenly Advent was here before we knew it! Throughout the season, we engaged our Advent series “What Can’t Wait” through worship, song, poetry, Bible study, and online interactions. We wrapped up the year with an amazing and hilarious children’s program, presented by our incredibly talented youth and adult leaders. And as I write this, we are preparing beautiful Christmas Eve services.

Over this year, we’ve shared laughter, tears, joyous moments and struggles. We were sad to have a few members move away and joyful to receive new ones. We grieved together as we said goodbye to loved ones who were going to be with Jesus. We’ve prayed together, given each other nicknames (ok, it’s mostly me who seems to be the recipient of silly nicknames…), and sometimes we’ve even disagreed. Through all of it, we’ve LOVED one another.

As we enter 2020, I want you all to know how very happy and proud I am to be your Pastor. You’ve all said to me the words I say to you at the beginning of each service: “Welcome Home.”

I love you all, and I look forward to another incredible year.

Peace, love, and HOPE, Pastor Christie

Pastor Christie will be on vacation December 25 - January 1.Make Note:Pastor Christie’s weekly office hours are now posted in the monthly calendar, in the bulletin, and online at our Hope Website’s calendar at www.hopeonbluerock.org.  Pastor will be available at other times as well, but these are dedicated times when she will be in the office. Please feel free to stop by during these times to say hello or discuss anything you may need, or make an appointment for another time. Hours are subject to change but will be kept updated in the calendar.

NEWS FROM KATHIIt is hard to believe that this newsletter comes at the start of a new decade. It is also the start of the year in which I will graduate! This is incredible to contemplate because I have been at this for so long, it does not seem possible that it will be over in 5 months! You have been behind me all this time, encouraging me to keep going. The fact that Hope has been walking with me is a great honor, one that will never be forgotten. I look forward to this month of January, the start of this new year. Let us look forward to what God may have planned for us in 2020. Blessings to all at Hope Lutheran Church!

HOPE REMEMBERSLongtime Hope member and shut-in Karin Pendle passed away December 9th at Twin Towers Senior Living Community. In past years she was a very important part of Hope's music program, a celebrated professor at the University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, and author of books on women and music. ON A HAPPY NOTEHere are two recent births in our Hope family.

On November 1, Erica Leppert gave birth to daughter Colleen Rae. Here is the happy family of daddy Chris, mom Erica and proud big sister Cora.

Mom Erica was back at Hope teaching Sunday school after taking off only one Sunday from her duties. Colleen is also the niece of Jen and Brian Byrne and cousin of Jake and Aaron. (You will usually find the young baby in the arms of Aunt Jen Byrne at church!)

The Gabbard Family added one more to its number on November 22. Little Nova Rayne was born to Hannah and Zac Gabbard and older sister Zoey. Nova is the sweet granddaughter of Connie and Ralph Terbrueggen and also the great niece of K a r e n a n d M i k e Schweinfest.

Hope extends our congratulations to these young families on their beautiful healthy baby girls. God bless these families!

Due to this system, we cannot flush diapers, sanitary items, wipes, or TOYS in our toilets. Recently we have had to spend a considerable amount of money to repair and clean up damage due to these products found in our septic system. Your help in this matter is greatly appreciated!

ATTENTION PARENTS & GUARDIANS: We are delighted that our nursery is being utilized by our amazing Hope families, and Linda is doing a great job caring for our little ones!  To keep all of our children safe and assist Linda Carter in doing her job, please note the following nursery guidelines:

1) To remain compliant with fire code and staff/child ratio requirements, please limit nursery use to children 4 and under, and no more than 5 children in

nursery at a time.2) Please complete a registration sheet for each child in the nursery, so that Linda has information about your child and contact information for you.

3) Please  go to the nursery to sign your child in and out each week. If you authorize an older sibling or other adult to pick up your child, note this on your registration form.  Children will only be allowed to leave the nursery with a person listed on their form.

We will soon have windows installed in all the doors to be in compliance with our Child Protection policy and our church insurance. Thank you so much for your help in ensuring the safety of our nursery and our children! Pastor Christie

GOD BLESS THE CHILDRENA 6-year-old was overheard reciting the Lord's Prayer at a church service. 'And forgive us our trash passes, as we forgive those who passed trash against us.’

A little child in church watched as the ushers passed the offering plate. When they neared the pew where he set, the youngster piped up so loud that everyone could hear, “Don’t pay for me Daddy, I’m under five!”

“ W h a t a w o n d e r f u l thought it is that some of the best days of our lives haven’t even happened yet.”
