They will run now right up to 15 th June 2018, with very few gaps between each exam for our pupils. Our pupils stay in school at this time as we find the most effective revision takes place with our talented teachers at the helm, guiding the revision topics through bespoke lessons. I’ve been really proud of how the Year 11, have embraced their exams this week, they have been calm and ready for each one and they have clearly been doing a huge amount of revision at home. It’s a difficult and challenging time for our young people when true resilience is needed. I’m sure that parents and carers at home are also supporting and keeping an eye on the exam timetable. Your support is very much appreciated by school and also your children! We are all looking forward to a successful exam season and a great celebration at the Prom on 6 th July. By Reece Milburn and Chloe Hooper This week we went to Lower Moor Farm near Cirencester and investigated pond life. The data we recorded is entered in to a data base that is used by the Wildlife Trust to see how clean water is and how common some insects are. We used a long handled net to collect the insects and put them in a tray. We had to use a chart to record what we saw. We collected crested newts, which are very rare, and lots of different dragonfly lava. Godwin took off his shoes and socks to get into the middle of the pond!

Afterwards, we had a cup of hot chocolate and biscuits.

Lawn Manor Sporting News

We did it!! Congratulations Year 9 Football Team beating Highworth, Warnford 3-1. Great performance, deserved result. Two Wins for the RWBA MAT.

Football

Basketball The annual staff v’s student’s basketball game took place on Wednesday in front of a packed West Manor Gym. The staff got off to a blistering start with three quick baskets, but the students fought back and levelled by half time. The second half was end to end and despite a number of shots in the last minute by the students, the staff ran out winners 12-11. An exciting game, played in a great spirit. Next is the cricket!

Cricket The cricket got under way this week, with the Year 7’s taking on Swindon Academy. Put into bat, Lawn Manor posted 70 runs off their 10 overs, with Joey Godwin top scoring with 16 not out. In reply, Swindon Academy were reduced to 43 for 6, with Denzil and Harris taking two wickets each. Well done team, an excellent start.

Maths Department

Maths faculty honing their problem solving skills on a faculty social evening. Split into teams and going up against each other, locked in a room where the only way out was to follow clues that would eventually lead to their release. Mrs Dawn and Mrs Knowles’ team came out victorious. A great evening had by all.

In the library

In the library we have a huge selection of books, but we also have many board games and puzzles. which are great social activities. I had noticed a group of Year 10 students had started doing some of the puzzles each day, so I set them a challenge. We had some rather difficult puzzles kindly donated to the library. So every lunch and break these students dedicated their time to get it done. I think they were on a mission. It took nearly 3 weeks. I think it became quite catching, as lots of students walked by they couldn’t help but try and slot a piece into place. Now completed, I have set them a new challenge, split them into teams, given them very similar puzzles and the race is on!! It takes a lot of patience and skills to complete some of these nearly impossible puzzles! So Well done to Kallum Harris, Lleyton Cooper, Arthur Hicks, Fred Rutter, Blake Chandler, Ekchhanta Rai and Harley Anscombe. If you are having a sort out over the weekend or at half term and have any board games or puzzles and would like to donate them, the Library will be very grateful. Rachel Reynolds

PTA

The New Lawn Manor PTA are putting out an appeal to all Year 11 students. We would be very grateful if as many of you can donate your old Blazers back to the school as now you all have great new hoodies. The PTA would resell them to raise funds for the school. The second announcement is we now have a stall at the Old Town festival on Sunday 10th June. We are asking for donations for a tombola or raffle for us to have on our stall as well as selling items made by some students. Thanks The PTA.
