Peter and Elizabeth had six sons; Peter, Daniel, John, Jacob, Abraham and George. The following excerpt is from the book titled "The Old and New Monongahela" and details George Hazelbaker's family. George lived beyond all of his brothers. He was born in Berkely County, West Virginia, January 18, 1790. His wife was Matilda Dunlevy, sister of Andrew Dunlevy. She died inl853. After his marriage he erected the lower part of the old house on Main street in Bellevernon where now stands the house owned by A. L. Brown and occupied by Abe Lewis. In the old house George and his wife first set up housekeeping and there he carried on the has business until he and Dunlevy started the shop in the Billiter house. He also resided for a time on the Gould farm, then on the Levi Johnson, then on the Rutan farm opposite Columbia owned now by W. J. Manown. He moved from this farm to the Cooper farm near the mouth of Maple Creek and finally in 1841 he purchased the farm on which he died, in Allen Township, from Abia Allen and Robert Stockdale. His son Andrew married a daughter of Thomas Frye and died about the year 1856 near Lock No. 4. Joseph died at the homestead un- married. Anthony lived for many years in the house near the mouth of Maple Creek now owned by Charles Baltzee. He carried on the flour- ing mill which stood between the dwelling and the present bridge. The mill has passed away. Anthony over thirt y years ago moved to Illinois where he died a few years since. Jacob married a Miss Cr ow and lives in Clarion County. Geor ge marri ed a Mis s Riggs and lives on part of the homes t ead and John re s ides in All e n Towns hip not f a rm from Wood' s Run.     The Heirs Of Peter Hazelbaker

  • Calvin Hazelbaker of Lewiston, Idaho, was born on February 12, 1883 in Custer County, Nebraska. The family moved to Missouri for five years ; "To r e st the mules", as Calvin stated it. They went on to Gran geville, - wher e he was a bookkeeper at Miller Implement Company and where he met and married Irene Rode in 1913.

    He became deput y treasurer in Idaho Count y after , the y moved to Idaho, and they later moved . to Lewiston where he worked for Morrell Construction Company .

    Calvin was an avid enthusiast of the Idaho Old Time Fiddlers for many years. While declining to take part in any contests he was an excellent and precise fiddler. He -was confined to a wheel chair so he often had groups of fiddlers to his home. He was acclaimed by many as a most accom-plished fiddler.

    Calvin died in 1971, and is survived by his wife, · two sons, and three daughters.

    Ray Hazelbaker of Lewiston , Idaho , came int o th is - " f iddling world" on July 6, 1915, in Grangeville , Idah o, an d with the exception of the six year s in the Air Corps , he has lived in Idah o a ll his life .

    His _boyhood was spent on a small ranch northeast of Grangeville, with his parents Calvin and Irene Hazelbaker and a brother and three sisters .

    Ray was exposed to fiddle music all his life ; his father being on excellent dance fiddler . As he says, "Some of it gradually rubbed off on me ."

    Ray is married to Mary Alice Hazelbaker and they have six ch ildren and they .still live in the home they built when the family was growing up . He was a contractor and carpenter for twenty-seven years and is now the Building Inspector for the City of Lewiston .

    His most prized possessions are the basic training in fiddle making his father tough~ him, along with all his fiddle making tools . From this knowledge, which he put into use only a few years ago, he hos made twenty -six fiddles. , He and his wife have attended two conventions of the National Violin and Guitar Makers at Globe, Arizona, where his entries placed high in tone and over all points .

    Ray joined the Idaho Old Time Fiddlers in 1963, and was Chairman of District 11 in 1968 -69 . He and his wife were Co-editors for the Idaho Fiddlers Newsletter for two years .
