KS1 Sport Day - Oak class

On a scorching hot day, Key stage 1 had their

sports day on Tuesday 26th June 2018. They were

also joined by Reception class as well as their fami-

lies. They took part in many activities such as a relay

race, jumping side to side, long jump, javelin, throw-

ing bean bags into hoops as well as balancing

bean bags on heads. All these activities made pu-

pils feel exhausted however, staff and pupils were

thrilled at how successful it was.

At the end, there was a teacher race. Luckily Miss

Chhina, Mr Kayani and Miss Becka’s team won due

to their hard work and determination. Unfortunate-

ly, Mr Kelly cheated so Mr Oluseye’s team did not

do as well as they should have. After that there was

another race but this time with the parents. It was

great seeing the parents joining in too! Sunny Sports Day - Sycamore class

All of the excited children in Key Stage 1 at Have-

lock Primary school took part in the amazing, fun

and brilliant sports day on Tuesday 26th June 2018.

The marvellous event took place at Swift road. The

children were put into 4 teams and they had to

compete against each other. All of the children

took part in 8 events including throwing beanbags,

throwing a javelin, racing other children and jump-

ing as far as they can.

Although it was an extremely hot day, the children

worked really hard to try and win for their team. At

the end, there was a teachers race. The winning

teachers were Miss Chhina, Miss Becka and Mr

Kayani. The parents also had a race, it was delight-

ful to watch.

World Cup - Alder class

Football enthusiasts were very happy that England

was finally doing so well after a very long time. Like

the rest of the Country Alder class were extremely

excited as well, for the World Cup. During our school

summer fair everyone was asked to dress up in their

favourite team colour and the best dressed would

win a prize. From Alder class Medina stole the show

as she was the best well dressed. Our hearts go out

to England team, for after a very long time, they

reached the semi-finals. Unfortunately they lost 2:1

to Croatia, but as far as we are concerned they are

all winners. They have done us all proud. We have

been following the game even though our teacher

is not keen on football. Looking back, the last time

England reached the semi-finals was in 1990, 28

years ago when Italy hosted the World Cup. In fact,

most of the current England football team players

weren’t even born, when England last reached the

semi-finals. On Saturday we will be looking forward

to England playing Belgium, whether they win or

lose it’s not important. From our point of view this is

the worse game any one wants to play to be third

or fourth. Also teams which have traditionally done

so well were knocked out quiet earlier in the com-

petition. So maybe it was not meant for England as

yet. We are all very hopeful.

Despite them not making it to the finals, we were

proud that the England team tried their best and

were able to at least make it further than they did in

the last few World Cups. We hope that England will

do even better in the next World Cup in four years’

Football’ Fever! - Kowhai, Year 3

World Cup fever is in full swing this summer, and

Year 3 were really delighted about how far England

reached in this tournament even though they lost in

the semi-finals. We were supporting England be-

cause not only are they our home team, but be-

cause they had not reached the semi-finals since

1990, which was 28 years ago when Italy hosted

the World Cup. In fact, most of the players in the

England football team weren’t even born when

England last reached the semi-finals last time. How

funny that is! This year, we were sadly defeated by

Croatia in the semi-finals with a score of 2-1. Some

of us were able to show the different teams we

were supporting by wearing the team’s colours and

football kits during our Summer Fair. Teams such as

Germany, Brazil and Spain have all done really well

in the past, so we were really shocked when they

didn’t make the finals. However, we were proud

that the England team tried their best and were

able to at least make it further than they did in the

last few World Cup tournaments. The next World

Cup will be hosted by Qatar in 2022 and we’re sure

England will do even better!

Havelock Primary School’s five star sing-

ing concert

Written by children of year 4

On Thursday 5th July 2018, a splendid and spec-

tacular concert had taken place in our wonderful

and Rights Respecting Havelock primary school.

This amazing concert took time and pressure but

was fortunately hosted by the magnificent Miss

Forty. The concert had started at 10:45AM and

finished at approximately 11:30AM. Its importance

was evident in the number of adults, including

parents and also children from KS1 who had

come to watch the concert.

We all showed of our amazing, soulful talent by

taking turns when singing, however when all our

voices were combined, our voices became truly

angelic. This was after practising rigorously our lyr-

ics and our singing skills for a long time. We put all

our effort into the wondrous singing concert. The

songs in running order were : Alexander’s ragtime

band , colours of the wind , pure imagination,

Jambo bwana Just one person , pack up , pack

up your Tipperary and last but not least the Na-

tional Anthem. Miss Forty was impressed with the

resilience the children displayed during the singing

concert. She stated, “I am so proud with how

much effort you have put into learning your lyrics

and the way you sang the words beautifully. Nilani

had also stated after the concert, “I can’t believe

how much fun I had!”

The highlight of the concert was our parents

watching us. It lifted our spirits and it made the

children feel less confident, and therefore made

us feel more confident .We hope we get a similar

chance to show how children in Havelock Primary

are united again next year.

Stalls and activities

In our summer fair, we did loads of amusing activi-

ties. To begin with, we had our mouth-watering

food (cheesy pizza, icy drinks and crunchy chips).

Moving on, we had our fabulous face painting

activity which allowed you to have your face

done as a beautiful/scary/ugly creature. Some

people were running around with excitement and

enjoyment while others were bouncing on the

huge bouncy castle. Knowing that girls love hen-

na, we also had a henna stand ready for anyone

who wanted to design their hands! Anyone was

welcome! We also had tombola (you had to pick

3 numbers to win 3 portions of food). We also had

an area where you could sponge a teacher.

There were penalties with Mr Kayani. There was

also a place where you could buy toys and deco-

rations!

The Spectacular Summer Fair

On the 29th of June, Havelock primary held a fabu-

lous summer fair. A summer fair is a place where you

play games to win prizes. There were so many games

and stages held by teachers. Every single teacher

helped out to make the summer fair a memorable

moment. A Gigantic thanks to Mrs Khangoora who

was the creator of the games and the summer fair.

Also thanking Miss Kochhar for organising the perfor-

mances.

Entertainment

To make our summer fair a! Some parents were

clapping with enthusiasm because they were

thrilled with their performances. The music, which

was lurid, could be heard bit more competitive we

had some talented children dancing, singing and

doing great performances that they had been

practising for so long all around the playground.

Some parents were dancing while some children

were jumping. It was a moment for the Havelock

school to remember!

Raffle

To top of our summer fair we had raffle tickets. You

could win gift hampers or other toys .This made

both adults and children exited to find out the win-

ners!

SPECTACULAR SPORTS DAY

Last week ,on Friday on 22nd June 2018 ,sports day was

held .Key stage two (KS2)pupils at Havelock Primary

School had a fantastic day by whizzing through as

many obstacle courses as they could. Sports was a

successful day and it was held at Swift Road which

was across the road from the healthy school. The P.E

teacher –Mr Kelly –organised this event with the help

of some Yr6 pupils as well as Yr5 pupils. The school did

this as HPS is a healthy school and the children de-

served a day off from school work keeping fit. It lasted

the whole school day!

There was a selection of races like: parent races, year

group races and relay races . Those who were placed

first, second and three were given stickers. After that

those who had gained first place raced all the people

who got first place and so on .In the parents race a

parent accidentally, fell over but they recovered with

a very, very red fore-head however, they were not

unable to finish the race.

Here are some comments from the kids:

“When I won my first race I was determined to my

next race and now I have two first places,” David

gleefully said.

“I am really proud of myself as I have won a 2nd

place sticker ,” Amira replied.

“Yay I came third!” Hussein stated.

At the end of the day, Earth surprised the children at

Swift Road by winning sports day with 17,000 points .

Everyone was surprised because Saturn won every-

thing the last couple of years. Earth are no longer the

underdogs.

Sports day 2018!!

On Friday morning, on 22nd of June 2018 chil-

dren and teachers of Havelock Primary School

were having a great time with Mr Kelly [the P.E

teacher] at sports day. This event took place at

Swift Road.

Havelock Primary School did this event be-

cause they wanted their students to have an

active and healthy lifestyle and also have lots

of fun with their friends. The main thing is they

want them to be working as a team. They had

different stations for different sports activities

such as long jump, triple jump, vortex and

much more. Children had a 80m race which,

included 1st place, 2nd and 3rd place stickers.

Mr Bailey was very upset as heard that he

came 2nd place in the teacher’s race behind

Mr Oluseye! Miss Schai came 3rd and 1st as fe-

male teacher. The children were cheering at

their favourite teachers. Mr Kelly reported that

“the children were well behaved and were

having a lot of fun doing all these activities.”

Children had different houses which are: Nep-

tune, Earth, Mars and Saturn. People in Nep-

tune were shouting “Mighty Neptune.”

Mars came fourth with 10,060 points as they still

tried their best. 3rd came Neptune with 15,180

points. With 18,890 points came Saturn and with

19,000 points came…EARTH! Havelock primary

School are looking forward for next year’s

Sports day.

Sporty Sports Day , On the 22nd of June 2018- a spectacular event took

Havelock Primary School by storm. Competitiveness

was high on the agenda because of Sports Day, host-

ed by our fantastic PE teacher- teacher Mr Kelly. In this

event, pupils participated in organised activities like

relay races, triple jump and free throw. These activi-

ties promoted children to be active and stop them

Page 6: The Havelock Times...The Havelock Times July 2018 Everyone came to school very excited about our School Assembly for Autism Awareness Next we all took turns to touch kangaroo and cheetah

becoming lazy; it also promoted a team spirit be-

cause you are separated into teams and you have

to compete against others. It also brought new ex-

periences –for beginners- whilst more experienced

children helped newcomers. That’s what having

fun is about right?

A parent reported, “It was like watching those

competition shows on television!” A pupil who par-

ticipated stated the activities were hard but enjoy-

able. A child who has just taken part in a tiring

event stated, “Today has been such an enjoyable

day and I hope it never ends!”

After a long and tiring day, the results came in and

the winner was Earth with a staggering 17,000

points! Cheers were heard all over the pitch while

Earth danced their feet off. It was a fair and com-

petitive event. Pupils shook hands and returned to

their classrooms. Earth will hold the trophy until next

year.

Super sports day!

There was a spectacular Sports Day on Friday 22nd

of June. This amazing event was arranged by Mr

Kelly the PE teacher. It was to keep Havelock fit

and healthy but also to have fun. Sports day was

held at Swift Road and it included: vortex, javelin,

shot put, agility ladder, speed bounce and races.

There were different races. In the relay race, Nep-

tune came first, Mars came second and Earth

came third. In the teacher’s race, Mr Oluseye

came first, Mr Bailey came second, Ms Schai

came third. Unfortunately in the parent’s race

someone fell down and couldn’t finish the race.

This year the whole of KS2 took part in the races.

This year in sports day was fun competing with oth-

er people. “I think Mr Kelly arranged the sports day

so it will be enjoyable for everyone.” Stated one

pupil. At the end of the day I don’t really care who

wins I just wanted to enjoy myself and have fun.
