NAVY EQUIPMENTBOAT BAY RCS DOORS
MASK-SS-9.5X4 OVERVIEWThe Boat Bay is to stow launch and recover one of the ship’s sea boats over the side using a davit. The opening in the ship’s side through which the boat is launched is to be covered with a door to reduce the ship’s Radar Cross Section.
A Safety barrier is required at the ship’s side except for the short period when the boat traverses across the opening sill to prevent personnel or equipment falling overboard.
PURPOSEThe Boat Bay RCS door is an RCS (Radar Cross Section) closure to cloak the Boat Bay from radar and reduce the radar reflection from the Ship when the screen is closed.
EQUIPMENT CONTEXTThe Boat Bay RCS Door is located in the Boat Bay aboard the Ship. The Boat Bay is a compartment dedicated to the stowage, launch and recovery of a ship’s sea boat; the boat bay sea boat is designated as the primary boat to be used for emergency purposes. The sea boat located in the boat bay will also have significant role in general naval operations and is not solely an emergency boat but also forms part of the ship’s primary operational capability to conduct boarding operations. The Boat Bay is a weather deck space and the door is not watertight, weather tight or gastight.Ventilation exhausts from internal compartments discharge in to the boat bay and the ventilation air will pass through the Boat Bay RCS door to atmosphere.
NAVY EQUIPMENT
TRANSOM RCS SCREEN PURPOSEThe Ship is designed to have no major permanent openings in the hull; however, Seamanship and operational requirements have led to a need for a number of minor openings that are limited in both number and physical size. The openings will be closed using RCS Screens, thus protecting the vessel from the external marine environment with a minimal effect on the ship’s radar cross section.
EQUIPMENT PURPOSEProvide shelter to the Fwd and Aft Shell Openings from the external marine environment by being a weather resistant door.Provide a cloak to shield the contents of the Fwd and Aft Shell Openings from radar transmissions and minimise the ship’s Radar Cross Section (RCS).
RCS SCREENS FOR HULL CLOSURES

AR CHARATERISTICSUsually the windlasses are not designed to hold high loads while a Ship is at anchor. When the windlass is not in use and the Ship is at anchor, the chain should be secured using a chain stopper.
Chain stopper roller type, jaw or bar type, suitable for stud link chain from diam 16 mm up to 102 mm GRADE 2 and 3, made of high tensile strength certified plated, with cast steel components, withstand 80% of Chain Cable Braking Load are available with Class certificate.
CHAIN STOPPERS
NAVY EQUIPMENTWINDLASSES
SALP-100 GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The combined windlass/winch is composed by a cable lifter unit, mooring drum(s), warping head(s) and relevant drive unit.Windlass configuration allows the easily connection with the drum mooring winch. Cable lifter is connected to the mooring unit by means of a couple of spur gears (open gear), with the crown (low gear) connected with the cable-lifter and the pinion (fast gear) keyed on the mooring unit shaft, all lubricated by Viscolite and protected with metal covers. The cable lifter, in case there is a chain stopper, is designed in way to take a stress equal to the 45% of chain breaking strength, braked by the manual band brake and with a hand operated claw clutch disconnected from the drive shaft. The claw clutch disengage will be detected by means a safety switch (proximity sensor) and displayed by an indicating light on the control console.
The windlass, horizontal shaft type, is composed by:• A cable lifter, made in cast steel, five snugs suitable to engage in a chain up to 102 mm diameter, grade U3. It is keyed on the shaft which is supported by bearings.• A band brake with linings, controlled by a hand-wheel, is located aside of each cable lifter.
Each brake is capable of stopping and holding the associated anchor and chain. The effort to actuate the brake does not exceed 50 kg on the rim of the hand-wheel. Cable lifter band brake withstands a load equivalent to a chain pull of, at least, 45% of the chain breaking strength, without exceeding band material yield strength.Cable lifter brake bands are steel made and brake linings are asbestos free.
Clutch system, frontal claw type, idles the cable lifter by means of a manual control lever. All pinions and wheel shafts are mounted on steel supports with ball/roller bearings and lubrication. Locking rings or other parts in sliding contact with steel are bronze made. All other strength components are made of steel. The mooring unit consists of mooring drum(s) and warping head(s).The mooring drum(s), made of electro-welded steel, is a tubular smooth shell with flanges and split. It rotates around the main shaft by means of bronze bushings; a clutching device allows drum – shaft connection.
The warping head(s), made in cast iron, with or without staves and it’s keyed directly to the driving shaft. A band brake, controlled by a
rim hand-wheel, performs brake control of the mooring winch. The lining of incombustible material will be not adversely affected by heat or moisture. Asbestos is not used. The maximum pressure on lining does not exceed that recommended by lining Manufacturer for the particular application.Drum brake bands are steel or stainless steel (upon request) made. The mooring winch brake is designed such in a way it can be regulated to a specified holding power. A clutch system, frontal claw type, with manual lever control, is supplied.
Deck machinery frames are designed to be arranged on the counter-frame by means fixing bolts and aligned by means of chock-fast resin or metallic shims. The grease nipples, where necessary, are provided. The drive unit is composed by a principal reduction gear unit and by an electric motor with electromagnetic safety disc brake rated at 150% of line pull.
The reduction gearbox is enclosed type, with sea-proof casing. The reduction unit is able to work under motor in both directions. The gearbox has filling plug, drain, and level gauge.
Waterproof electric motor has the following characteristics:
Electric motor is fitted also with:• No. 1 heater• PTC thermal protection.• Encoder (if necessary)• Electro-magnetic brakeTerminal box: motors are provided with a watertight terminal box fitted with gland and removable cover.
