DON’T BE SCAMMED!

THE SILVERTONES TAKE IT ON THE ROAD

2016 NEW PARKING REGS

The infamous Greenwich Senior Center singing group ―The

Silvertones‖ will be performing during the month of Feb.

Some of these musical folks appear on the left all smiles and

dressed to dazzle. Interested in becoming a part of this tal-

ented and fun group? Please contact Program Coordinator

Suzanne Testani at 203-862-6721 for further details

Very Important New Information For All Senior Center Members Who Purchase Parking Passes

The Town is no longer allowing Senior Center Members to park in the Havemeyer lot which

is located across the street from the Senior Center and to the right of the BOE Administra-

tion Building. The spaces on Greenwich Ave. between Elm and Havemeyer, to the left of

the Senior Center on Bruce Place, Mason/ Havemeyer (both feature Senior Center sign-

age) that remain appropriate for parking. Please renew your parking passes for 2016 in

the Senior Center Administration Office. If you have any questions, please con-

tact Senior Center staff at 203-862-6721 who will be more than happy to assist

you.

A senior who lives in the Fairfield County area, recently received a phone call from an ―IRS representative‖ informing them that their taxes are delinquent

and that the IRS figures from 2014 don’t match those of the 2013 IRS figures. The ―IRS representative‖ then went on to inform the individual to avert a call

to the local police, they must pay $3,004.79 immediately! The savvy individual didn’t fall for the scammer’s insistent performance, hung up on the caller,

and notified the police. Remember, scammers are very good at fooling people. They also want to rush you: scam artists want your money before you have

time to think. The following are safe contact sources if you think you may be a victim of a scam:

•Greenwich Police Department: 1-203-622-8006

•Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection: 1-800-842-2649

•To report Medicare and other health care related scams:

CT’s Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) program: 1-800-994-9422

•U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging - Fraud Hotline (toll-free)

Call: 1-855-303-9470

Online: http://www.aging.senate.gov/fraud-hotline

•Connecticut Attorney General’s Office: Call: 1-860-808-5354

GET FIT & HAVE FUN TOO!

TECHLOUNGE NEWS

The Greenwich Senior Center once again proudly presents WINTER SENIOR WATER

AEROBICS 2016! Certified Water Fitness Instructor/ Lifeguard Suzanne Testani will begin

the New Year with a lively workout in the cozy 84 degree indoor pool at the Boys & Girls

Club, located at 4 Horseneck Lane, Greenwich, CT. Water props, ample, easy-access free

parking, locker rooms and showers are available too. The free 6 week session is open to

Senior Center members and is held 10:30AM. Due to inherent inclement weather condi-

tions, please contact Suzanne @ #862-6721 for possible cancellations and make-up

dates. Ladies and gents are both welcome. Let’s get fit and have fun in the water folks!

Please bring your Senior Center key tags along to class each week.

Did you know we have a lovely library located in the Lounge on the Main Floor of the

Greenwich Senior Center? The books you see neatly aligned on the shelves are continu-

ously being categorized and replenished by a dedicated group of Greenwich Dump Volun-

teers. One such individual, Gerhard Peter meticulously arranges each book, and carefully

watches over the area making sure that all titles are situated in their proper categories.

Any book in the library (or those that make it to our infamous ―giveaway‖ table on the low-

er level right outside the elevator) are always free to take home and enjoy. You need not

return the book once its been read, but rather pay its words forward in a random act of

kindness to a friend, neighbor, or loved one.

The 2016 TechLounge classes will be featured in the monthly Lantern activities schedule.

Class are only $5 for Senior Center members and $10 for non-members. And, as always,

the FREE open computer lab is every Fri from 9:30AM until noon. Feel free to stop by and

practice your skills. You are invited to bring your own mobile devices to class or the lab.

Participants may also learn on our newly acquired Mac desktop computers! Regular Clas-

ses will resume this month, don’t miss the continuing free lab on Fridays for all your com-

puting needs.
