ORGANIZATION OF BAWOD(Balilihan Association of Women for Development)
>Driven by LGU Balilihan’s campaign on solid waste management
>Its first task was to assist in the segregation and collection of household waste in every barangay
>The LGU also then taught them to make money out of the recyclable materials
>LGU assisted in the registration and accreditation of BAWOD to DOLE

The entry of GREAT Women Project made LGU Balilihan ….Realize the importance of participation of women as women and as women micro-entrepreneurs in the local governance and therefore the need to strengthen their group

STRENGTHENING OF BAWOD AS A WOMEN MICRO-ENTERPRISE GROUP
1. Facilitating access to funds: LGU assisted BAWOD in accessing funds for livelihood project such as cattle dispersal and homecare products
The assistance was meant for livelihood only. The LGU realized later the need to provide them the necessary entrepreneurial training to help them upscale their livelihood projects.

2. Organizing their activities. In an effort to extend more livelihood projects to women, LGU Balilihan organized the following:

3. Extending invitation for women’s active participation in the formulation of a gender responsive policies and plans such as CDP, ELA, AIP, GAD Code and GAD Plan and Budget

Increased capacity to manage their enterprise from the trainingsand seminars conducted by the LGU through GREAT women project.
Results of LGU support to Balilihanwomen under the GREAT Women Project
Such experience increased their capability to gain for themselves, leading to increase in family income. It also enhanced their interest to gain more for their family.
Increased confidence and encouragement to negotiate with the LGU for support of their respective line of business and/ or enterprise.

Conduct of Business and Strategic Planning, Simple Bookkeeping, and organizational strengthening
Construction of multi-purpose bldg. which was converted to a common service facility for WMEs
Allocation of Php310,000 additional capital for WMEs in 31 brgys.; managed by the women

Looking forward to have BAWOD stand on its own independent from the LGU
Need for further thorough study of the LGU in terms
of improvement of women’s micro-
entrepreneurship and other local enterprises
Need to establish a micro – enterprise
development desk at the LGU to respond to the needs and requests of
the women micro entrepreneurs
