From TheMind of

Chuck Lee

The Black PanthersWhen my oldest son was just a child, even up into his early

teens, we would drive around at night looking for critters. Thehighlight of our night was when we would spot a nicely antleredbuck deer. I explained that this was way funner than going to themall, the skating rink, bowling alley, or some other such pit ofdecadence and den of Satan. It was also cheaper. We always hadhope of seeing a black panther. Even though we have probablytraveled several hundred miles along the back roads of Missis-sippi, never once have we spotted the elusive animal.

I know they exist. In fact, I heard tell two were spotted at thepolls during the last presidential elec-tion, but after wasting a few hours watch-ing the news, all I ever saw were thesetwo militant looking guys hangingaround a voting precinct up north some-where. Talk about having your hopesbuilt up to soaring heights just to hearthe pilot say that now engine two wasalso not working.

Anyway, my son and I haven’t givenup hope. After all, despite the fact thatWildlife and Fisheries is trying to coverup what is apparently a governmentsecret by saying that there has neverbeen any proof given to verify that ablack panther exists, most every neigh-bor and hunter that I have been associated with has spotted one“with my own eyes. Scariest thing I ever saw. Screamed like awoman and made the hair stand up on my head.”

Some very reputable people would gladly take a sworn oath ina court of law declaring that they had seen one several times intheir back pasture. According to my statistics, which weremeticulously kept on a napkin up until the cold and flu season, seventy five percent of Mississippians have witnessed a blackpanther sighting. In fact, I’ve had a couple of preachers, a fewdeacons, the Pope, and Ray confirm their existence.

Therefore, I have concluded that the state of Mississippi isoverrun with black panthers and that the Department of Wildlifeand Fisheries must have some ulterior motive for not giving into popular opinion. We’ll just keep driving the back roads untilone slips up and runs in front of the truck. In the meantime, Imust settle my disturbed thoughts with a time of quiet andmeditation with my Bible. At least I know that it is completelytrue. Despite what the majority of people believe.

They Have A Good Home Life SeriesPart One - Unconditional Love

This is a series of articleswritten to help us focus ourpassions and priorities on whatmakes a good home life. I hearpeople talking in church aboutother people's kids or theirmarriages and they all agreethat these people have a "goodhome life". What characteris-tics make up a good home life? What are the common threadsin the family fabric of Chris-tian homes that are healthy, holy and work well? Hopefullythrough this series of articles,it will help you learn, focus, and increase your efforts onthese traits that are found con-sistently in homes that are anice place to grow up in, orgrow old in.

Unconditional LoveUnconditional LoveUnconditional LoveUnconditional LoveUnconditional LoveThis is the foundation that a

good home is built upon. Ex-actly what is unconditional loveand what does that look like?Unconditional love means sim-ply that there are no condi-tions you have to meet for meto love you. There are no stringsattached to my love for you.The best way for me to describethis love is when people have ababy that has just been born.Instantly, you are in love withthis baby. When people getmarried, they fall in love first. They meet. They date. Theygrow to love each other over acertain time period. But, whenyou see that little baby for thefirst time, it is instantaneouslove. That little baby did not

have to do one thing to get youto love him or her. This isunconditional love.

Every person in every homehas the capacity to do this. I'mnot saying they do. I'm saying

they have the potential to. Insome homes it is evident. Inother homes it is there some ofthe time. Still in dysfunctionalhomes, it is often times absent. In abusive homes, it does notexist. Unconditional love can-not exist apart from God.

I have heard some peoplesay, "My parents are both lost, but they love each other". Theyhave "eros" or "philiea" love, but they do not have "agape"love. A couple can live in mar-riage under one roof, work toprovide income, share hopesand dreams, physical intimacyand even have children. But itis impossible to have true lovewithout God. This is not myopinion. This is a fact out of theBible. Please read carefullythe words of I John 4:8 "Hethat loveth not knoweth notGod; for God is love." There isyour unchangeable definitionof love. God is love. How do twopeople truly love each other if

they don't have God? God islove. If you don't have Jesus inyour heart, you don't have Godin your heart. And remember, love only comes from God, forHe is love.

In the same passage of scrip-ture read verses 9-11. The Bibledescribes unconditional love.God first loved us so much thatHe sent Jesus to die for us andforgive us. This is love. Andthen verse 11 states that weare to love each other that sameway. What way? Uncondition-ally. There are no strings at-tached to God's love for us asChristians. We didn't receivethis love because of our behav-ior. We didn't get this love be-cause of something we do. Re-gardless of our actions and be-havior, Christ died for us. Thisis love. This is how you ought tolove your family.

Spouses should love eachother regardless of behavior oractions. Parents and childrenshould all love each other, andit not be dependent upon meet-ing certain standards of per-formance. I don't have to doanything for you to love me.

Please understand that justbecause I love you does notmean that I can't be upset withyou, mad at you, disappointedin you, hurt by you, etc. It doesnot mean that I can't set bound-aries with you. There shouldalso be consequences for wrongbehavior. If a spouse hurtstheir spouse, there should besome consequences for the be-havior. Not sick, dysfunctionalconsequences like pouting, shouting, withdrawing, with-holding etc. But communica-tion and things that serve torebuild the relationship. Kidsshould have consequences

placed upon them when they do wrong. But it doesn't affect the love.

I told my daughter that if she camehome pregnant in high school, that Iwould still love her because my lovefor her doesn't depend upon her be-havior. And I would love the baby. Andshe would be grounded for 18 years!Because there is a consequence forwrong behavior and she would takeresponsibility for raising the child. Itold my son that if he called me fromjail with a DWI, I would still love him.No matter what. And because I lovehim, I will visit him daily while hestays in jail because there is no bail. You have to be responsible and acceptconsequences for wrong behavior, butI still love you.

Love has to be shown people! Yourfamily shouldn't have to guess if youlove them. Tell them. Show them.Never give up on them. Be there forthem. Pray for them. Hug them.Hang out with them. Do things forthem. Treat them nicely. Smile atthem like you do when you see a newbaby or a puppy. Nothing is greaterthan love.

Getting Older, Making Changesand Paying The Price

Life has a funny way ofsneaking up on us and sendingus in new directions. I remem-ber so many of those changes -leaving school, getting married, the birth of children, changingjobs, accepting Christ as Sav-ior, the call to the ministry,full-time ser-vice as editor,p a s t o r i n gc h u r c h e s ,grandchi l -dren (one ofthe best ex-periences),etc.

C h a n g ehas onceagain come tothe Brownfamily. After 32 1/2 years as anemployee of Southeastern Bap-tist College, Mrs. Brown hasretired. Yes, she is old enoughand she has made the move.

One of my doctors told methat in order to preserve andenjoy my life that I should'lighten my load' and 'reducethe stress'. After many monthsof contemplation and prayer, Ihave taken his advice, and whatI feel is the leadership of God,and left the pastorate of BigCreek Baptist Church, Soso,Mississippi.

I have had many wonderfulexperiences in life andpastoring this good church isright at the top of the list. Ithink I understand in part whatthe Apostle Paul felt when hetold the Corinthian church "...Iam jealous over you with godlyjealousy..." In Chapter 11. I

already miss those dear people.I continue to serve as editor

of the Mississippi Baptist andenjoy the work and contact withthe people of the BMA of Mis-sissippi.

The Browns are slowingdown, but we are not out, by along shot. We look forward tothe future and are certainlyenjoying the present. To quotethe late Mrs. Ruby Wilson (Bro.A.M. Wilson's mother), "Get-ting older is not too bad, but attimes it is awfully inconve-nient."

We are getting older (but itain't all that bad). We are mak-ing changes (they are not toobad either). We are paying the

price (physically). It is hard onthis old man to have to movefrom the church parsonageback into our home. Where didall this stuff come from?? Whereare we going to put it??

Missions! Now More Than Ever!Missions! Now More Than Ever!Missions! Now More Than Ever!Missions! Now More Than Ever!Missions! Now More Than Ever!"Also I heard the voice of the Lord,

saying, Whom shall I send, and whowill go for us? Then said I, Here am I;send me. And he said, Go, and tell thispeople, Hear ye indeed, but under-stand not; and see ye indeed, but per-ceive not. Make the heart of thispeople fat, and make their ears heavy,

and shut theireyes; lest theysee with theireyes, and hearwith their ears, and understandwith their heart, and convert, and be healed. Then said I,Lord, how long? And he an-swered, Untilthe cities bewasted withoutinhabitant, andthe houses with-

out man, and the land be utterly deso-late,..." Isaiah 6:8-11

A right understanding of Is 6 musttake into account the song of judgmentin chapter 5 which is summarized inverse 7, "...he looked for judgment, but

behold oppression; for righteousness, but behold a cry."

The word judgment means that thewriter is looking for a verdict. Thesame verdict he had requested in verse3, "...judge, I pray you, betwixt me andmy vineyard." It's the age old argu-ment between right and wrong. Joshuasaid it this way, "...choose you this daywhom ye will serve; ..." Joshua 24:15

I believe we can say with some cer-tainty that the verdict is in and ourcountry has chosen to reject the righ-teous law of God as a foundation uponwhich her liberty rests. Regardless ofwhich man people preferred to be presi-dent, the platform that was adoptedfor our nation’s future includes thesespecific points (these are quotes): 1.“…a woman's right to make decisionsregarding her pregnancy, including asafe and legal abortion, regardless ofability to pay.” 2.“…marriage equalityand support the movement to secureequal treatment under law for same-sex couples.” 3.“…the full repeal of theso-called Defense of Marriage Act andthe passage of the Respect for Mar-riage Act.” 4.“Recognizing that gayrights are human rights, the Presi-dent and his administration havevowed to actively combat efforts by

other nations that criminalize homo-sexual conduct or ignoreabuse….American diplomats mustraise the issue wherever harassmentor abuse arises, and they are requiredto record it in the State Department'sannual report on human rights. Andthe State Department is funding aprogram that finances gay rights or-ganizations to combat discrimination, violence, and other abuses.”

In summary, this means 1. No De-fense of Marriage; 2. No Defense of theUnborn; and 3. Full-on promotion andfunding of gay rights and gay rights’organizations at home and abroad.

At this point you may be askingyourself if I should be discussing thesethings. Well according to 1 Samuel8:9,when Israel rejected God and thewarning of the men of God, God toldSamuel, “Now therefore hearken untotheir voice: howbeit yet protest sol-emnly unto them, and shew them themanner of the king that shall reignover them.”

Pursuant to our country’s decisionis the dismantling of Biblical prin-ciples and precepts, which for so longhave undergirded the law of the land, and replacing them with human rea-soning and secular rationale. We arewitnessing a rejection of God's morallaw. This was done, for the first time inour history, by the endorsement of amajority of the people.

Biblical law is necessary. The un-godly are acquainted with God's holi-ness through the demands of law. Byand through the demands of law, aright respect for morality is main-tained. The absence of law meansimmorality and ungodliness reign. Thenatural way of depraved man accord-ing to Romans 1, is to reject God and

live immorally. The things of God arerejected as undesirable. The wrath ofGod is certain.

The only hope has always been andwill continue to be a clear, concise, correct, Christ centered gospel. No-tice the last part of Is 5:7...God's re-sponse to the wrong decision by Hispeople which resulted in the oppres-sion of righteousness and righteousinfluence on the land, is found in Is5:25, “Therefore is the anger of theLORD kindled against his people, andhe hath stretched forth his handagainst them, and hath smitten them:and the hills did tremble, and theircarcases were torn in the midst of thestreets. For all this his anger is notturned away, but his hand is stretchedout still.”

God’s response was to pronounceswift and immediate judgment and atthe same time, reach out His hand tosave. His unsearchable love, kindnessand mercy, explode into our aware-ness as chapter 6 introduces us to thecalling of Isaiah. He will be sent forthto a nation in crisis, to preach thegospel. As his message unfolds in chap-ter 7 we hear him proclaim, “…Behold,a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son,and shall call his name Immanuel.”

I believe God’s response to our na-tion in crisis will be to call men to goand preach the gospel. The gospel ispowerful and can convict the vexedsoul as well as quicken the "dead inspirit" to repentance toward God andfaith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Wemust preach the gospel where we areand send others to preach it where wecannot go. We need missions now morethan ever.

Several years ago my chil-dren decided that I needed toget a cell phone in case I everhad any trouble while I was outand about. And so I did, but Itold the Lord that my gettingthat phone didn't mean I didn'tneed Him any longer.

Well, after all these yearsthe only time I felt like I neededit was one night I was drivingalong, meeting a long string oftraffic when all of a sudden Isaw a big yellow plastic bucketin the middle of my lane. Well,I didn't know if it was empty orfull of concrete. Didn't matter, all I could do was hit it. It gotstuck under the car so I pulledover on the shoulder andbacked up and then drove for-ward, backed up, drove for-ward, backed up and I still hadthat bucket. So I punch in thenumber for the MississippiHighway Patrol and then Ithink, "I'm going to have to tellthem that I have a bucket hungunder my car and they are outthere watching for speedersand arresting narcotics ped-dlers, etc." So I hung up realquick like.

Then I decided to just driveon thinking that a plasticbucket would soon wear downand fall off. You can imaginethe noise that thing causedunder the car! The thing neverwore out. I drove 20 miles untilI came to an unpaved parkinglot and I pulled in and straddleda mud hole and it dropped off.I got out and picked it up be-cause that was one toughbucket!

Even though I still have acell phone it doesn't comfortme quite like the verse inJeremiah 33:3, "Call unto meand I will answer thee." Nowthat's security without amonthly fee!

It Is Good To GiveThanks To The Lord

As we approach the Thanks-giving season, it gives us anideal time to give thanks toGod for His unlimited bless-ings upon us as His people. Itis a time to personally reflectupon our lives and consider if atrue spirit of thankfulness isexpressed to God on a dailybasis and not only at this par-ticular time of the year.

In other words, we shouldnot wait until ThanksgivingDay to bless and thank ourGod. Each and every day weshould make it a practice of lifeto enter into His courts withthanksgiving and praise. “It isa good thing to give thanksunto the Lord, and to singpraises unto thy name, O mostHigh.” Psalm 92:1.

Gratitude For The GospelGratitude For The GospelGratitude For The GospelGratitude For The GospelGratitude For The GospelWe could all make a long list

of things for which we arethankful. Our lists might in-clude our health, our families, our friends, our churches, ourjobs, our homes, and our otherpossessions. The blessingsgiven to us from God are worthdaily appreciation and worship. However, there is nothing givento us that should cause as muchgratitude as the salvation wehave in the gospel of JesusChrist our Lord.

One of the great chapters inthe Bible is 1 Corinthians 15. Itbegins with a simple explana-tion of the gospel, movesthrough a grand explanationof the resurrection of Christ, and ends by saying in verse 57,“But thanks be to God, whichgiveth us the victory through

our Lord Jesus Christ.” As youcelebrate a time of Thanksgiv-ing this year, remember Jesuswith the following prayer foundin the seventeenth centuryBook of Common Prayer:“ALMIGHTY God, Father ofall mercies, we thine unworthyservants do give thee mosthumble and hearty thanks forall thy goodness and loving-kindness to us…We bless theefor our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life;but above all, for thine inesti-mable love in redemptionthrough our Lord Jesus Christ;for the means of grace, and forthe hope of glory. And, we be-seech thee, give us that duesense of all thy mercies, thatour hearts may be thankful, and that we show forth thypraise, not only with our lips,

Obama may not impact Supreme Court balanceWASHINGTON (BP) -- Socialconservatives lamenting a slewof Election Day losses mighttake solace in this: Barring asurprise retirement, the ideo-logical makeup of the SupremeCourt likely will remain thesame for the next four years.

So says Liberty Counsel'sMathew Staver, who has ar-gued two cases before the courtand whose organization hasfiled about 30 briefs with it.

Only one of the justices --liberal bloc-member RuthBader Ginsburg, who is 79 --seems likely to retire, but thatwould not change the court's

balance because her replace-ment by President Obamalikely would be a liberal as well,Staver said.

"Absent some kind of unfore-seen health complication" toone of the other justices, headded, "the Supreme Courtwould likely look the same"ideologically when Obamaleaves office.

That would be great newsfor social conservatives, whoview the high court -- and thecourts below it -- as integral totheir cause. Abortion was le-galized by the Supreme Courtin Roe v. Wade, a 1973 casesocial conservatives hope iseventually reversed. The jus-tices might consider next yearthe legalization of gay mar-riage.

The reason the court couldlook the same in four years issimple: Justices typically timetheir retirement so that theparty that appointed them getsto name their successor. Presi-dent Clinton, a Democrat, nominated Ginsburg, and herreplacement would be namedby Obama, another Democrat.

Republicans nominated allfive members of the court whoare considered part of the con-

servative bloc. If they hold totradition, the ones who are eye-ing retirement will hold off inthe hopes that a Republicanwill win the White House in2016. Of the court's four-mem-ber liberal bloc, Clinton nomi-nated two and Obama two.

Nothing, of course, is guar-anteed, and surprise retire-ments do happen.

Liberal Justice ThurgoodMarshall -- nominated byDemocratic President LyndonJohnson -- was forced to retirein 1991 due to poor health dur-ing the administration of Re-publican George H.W. Bush, who replaced Marshall with aconservative, Clarence Tho-mas. Marshall died two yearslater. Marshall had voted withthe pro-Roe majority in 1973,and Thomas has since gone onrecord as opposing Roe.

Death also can have an im-pact. Former Chief Justice Wil-liam Rehnquist passed awayin 2005 while in office, althoughit did not have an impact on thecourt's ideological balance be-cause he was nominated by aRepublican (Richard Nixon)and his successor (John Rob-erts) was nominated by a Re-publican (George W. Bush).

Four justices are in their 70s:Ginsburg (79), Antonin Scalia(76), Anthony Kennedy (76) andStephen Breyer (74).

"That's something that wecertainly need to be in prayerabout -- for the good health ofthe justices," Staver said.

Even if Obama doesn'tchange the ideological makeupof the nation's highest court, though, he'll still have a majorimpact on the lower court -- theappeals courts and districtcourts, Staver said.

"He'll have more of an im-pact on the court system thanany previous president -- evenif he appoints the same num-ber [of judges as other presi-dents] -- because unlike anyprevious president, Obamaappoints people who are ideo-logically in line with him,"Staver said.

Other presidents, Staversaid, appoint "some people whoare ideologically in line withthem" and some who "go off ina different direction" ideologi-cally.

If Ginsburg is the only Su-preme Court justice to retire inthe next four years, then thehigh court potentially could bea major issue in the 2016 presi-dential race. That's because twomembers of the court's conser-vative bloc -- staunch conser-vative Antonin Scalia andswing vote Anthony Kennedy -- would be 80 that year.Kennedy, although a part ofthe conservative bloc for muchof his career, has upset bothsides of the spectrum. He votedto uphold Roe in the 1990s,then a decade later voted touphold the federal ban on par-tial-birth abortion. He has sidedwith the liberal bloc on gayrights cases, but with the con-servatives on Ten Command-ments cases. This year, he votedwith the losing side that wouldhave reversed the health carelaw ("Obamacare").

"Whether it's Republicans orDemocrats, anybody who re-places Kennedy will definitelyimpact the future of the court,"Staver said.

We should not be motivated by an unrealisticexpectation of human response, but rather a peace inthe providence of God that moves us to obedience tothe faith. The outcome was not the motivating factorfor the one who beheld the Lord high and lifted upand then surrendered to His call. Isaiah said inchapter 6:11, "Lord, how long?" The Lord's responsewas, "...Until the cities be wasted without inhabit-ant, and the houses without man, and the land beutterly desolate,..." Obedience to the faith is ourmotivator. We need missions now more than ever.

We don't know what the end result will be from themost recent decisions of our fellow countrymen. Butnow, more than ever, we need to be doing the workof missions. Let the cry of the gospel be heard fromour lips across the street, across our state, and acrossthis land.

Let me challenge you to do more and give morethan ever before, for the cause of missions here inMississippi.

This past year, in addition to the ongoing work ofFirst Hispanic in Ripley, El Camino in Laurel, ElCamino in Hattiesburg and New Heart in SouthHattiesburg, we watched God open the doors for newchurches to be planted in Burnsville, New Albany,Tupelo, Oxford, Caledonia, Clinton, Indianola, HollySprings, South Forrest County, and Biloxi. Yourmissionaries reported (in October) 420 new contactsmade, with 226 of those being presented with thegospel, and 35 people trusted Christ, and 5 werebaptized.

Hispassion is to make disciples by teaching the Bibleand mentoring. He is married to the former JessieSellas of Lucedale and has two sons, Adin (8) andAndrew (5). Jessie is a graduate of SoutheasternBaptist College and an assistant school teacher inUnion County.

Recently, Kelby shared the following report:

“FIRST CORE GROUP MEETING - October was avery exciting month for us here at Grace Church. Weheld our very first core group Bible study on Sunday

morning, October7th. We met at ourhome and had 18people present. We have contin-ued meeting eachSunday morningsince and haveaveraged 18people per week.

WHAT ARE WEDOING? Severalpeople have askedme what we aredoing for our Sun-day morning core

group meetings. We meet at 10:00 A.M. and beginwith a time of discussion. We try to ask the followingquestions to begin: “What has God been showing youlately in His Word?” or “Has God given you anyinteresting opportunities this week?” The point ofthis time is to allow people to hear about what ishappening in the lives of others and hopefully it willhelp the group grow closer. Once this time is done,we move into our prayer time. Each week I ask oneof our young men to read a passage of Scripture (thatrelates to my sermon that day) and to give a fewcomments on that passage. We then begin a time ofcorporate prayer. We sit in silence and whoeverwants to pray out loud does so. We usually pray for10-15 minutes in this manner. We believe this allowsus to make prayer a concentrated time instead of just

something we rush through to begin or end our timetogether. When the prayer time is over, I begin thesermon. We are currently studying through the bookof Romans. We went through chapter 1 in Octoberand plan to cover chapters 2 and 3 in November. Wegive our people notes to follow along with the ser-mon. We believe that what we preach on Sundayshould be learned and shared. We end with a closingprayer. We then have a lunch and time of fellowship. We continue to meet and invite others as we are inthe early stages of developing our core group.

BMA OF MISSISSIPPI STATE MEETING - I wasable to be at the state meeting and we had a greattime. It was encouraging to talk with several othermissionaries and pastors who are excited about thework. The missionaries met at the mission’s office fora good time of prayer during the meeting. I was alsoable to stand and promote our church plant at themeeting. It was great to have Bro. Planned Parenthood Prosecution Brings Legal PersecutionPlanned Parenthood Prosecution Brings Legal PersecutionPlanned Parenthood Prosecution Brings Legal PersecutionPlanned Parenthood Prosecution Brings Legal PersecutionPlanned Parenthood Prosecution Brings Legal Persecution(OneNewsNow.com) (OneNewsNow.com) (OneNewsNow.com) (OneNewsNow.com) (OneNewsNow.com) - A former Kansas attorneygeneral faces yet another hearing in an attempt todisbar him. That effort stems from his attempt tochallenge Planned Parenthood while in office.

The attempt to disbar Phill Kline has been ongo-ing for over seven years now. Dana Cody of LifeLegal Defense Foundation tells us the next hearingis this week.

"The courts in Kansas have been have been pros-ecuting -- I think a better word is persecuting -- PhillKline because he attempted to do his job as a pros-ecutor, which was to prosecute a Planned Parent-hood clinic and George Tiller's clinic for not report-ing statutory rape and not following the parentalnotification laws of the state," she explains.

George Tiller was a late-term abortionist in Wichitaand the Planned Parenthood is in Kansas City.

Kline, whose law license has been suspendedindefinitely, was attorney general when KathleenSibelius was governor, who refused to cooperatewith him in this case.

"Our now fearless leader of the Department ofHealth and Human Services at the federal level,Kathleen Sibelius, was involved in all this early on,trying to hide evidence rather than cooperate withthen-Attorney General Phill Kline to prosecute,"Cody tells OneNewsNow.

Records needed for prosecution supposedly disap-peared and, although that has been questioned, charges against the abortion giant were droppedearlier this year.

Cody believes politics were involved. Having seenthe legal information against Kline, she finds itunbelievable that he was prosecuted at all.

Something For Nothing?“It wasn’t the Goths that defeated Rome-it

was their free circuses.” Luxuries, Power, in-dulgence, had made the once tough Romanpeople soft. To stay popular their emperorsgave them more and more of the ease theycraved– free bread, free circuses, easier living. So the Romans softened up themselves for theambitions, hard working barbarians. And in410 A. D. The greatest nation the world hadever seen was invaded and destroyed.

The greedy cry of “something for nothing,”the stupid whine of “somebody” else shouldsacrifice not me”-could do exactly the same forthis nation- NOW.
