Lesson objectives: At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
Listen and enjoy the video song ‘The ants go marching’
Read the story and match the adjectives of quality given to the characters in the story.
Write an email to thank Miss Ant by using the suitable adjectives of quality learnt.
Language focus : Adjectives of quality
Previous knowledge : Students are familiar with the names of the insects.

Teaching aids : 32 headbands (16 grasshopper headbands and 16 ant headbands), a video song from YouTube
entitle “The ant go marching”, the story “The grasshopper and the ants”, 32 computers, Internet
facilities.

1. Teacher gives grasshopper headbands to half of the class and ant headbands to another half.
2. Teacher gives the YouTube link of the video song ‘The ants go marching’.
3. Students browse for the link in the YouTube and listen to the song.

Presentation(13 minutes)
1. Teacher displays pictures from the Internet through LCD.
2. Teacher describes the people in the pictures using the adjectives of quality.
3. Teacher tells the pupils that they will come across these words in the story that they are going to read after this.
To provide the language input for pupils before they read the story.
The pictures act as a pictorial aid for the pupils to learn abstract words.
To give pupils idea about the story that they are going to read later.
Pictures involving adjectives of quality: hardworking: lazy: kind: responsible: irresponsible: cheerful: playful (Appendix 2)
Practice(15 minutes)
1. Teacher emails the story “The Grasshopper and the Ant” to each pupil.
2. Every student opens the page that has been sent to individual email.
3. Teacher explains the roles of the pupils. The pupils with grasshopper

Task sheet(Appendix 4)
headbands read aloud the lines of the character ‘Grasshopper’ and the pupils with ant headbands read aloud the lines of the character ‘Ant’. Meanwhile, the narration will be read aloud together.
4. While reading aloud, the teacher will ask pupils questions about the story.
5. Pupils complete the task sheet given. They must match the words correctly with the characters in the story.
6. Pupils email the answered task sheet to the teacher.
7. Teacher corrects their errors.Production(20 minutes)
1. Teacher explains on the pupils’ task. Pupils ought to send a thank you message to Ant via email. The use of the learnt adjectives is compulsory.

The grasshopper and the ant
Once upon a time, on a hot summer day, a lazy grasshopper was sitting on a branch of a tree. Then, he saw a long line of ants carrying food to their nest. His friend, Ant was there too.
Grasshopper: A good day, Ant! Why are you working so hard? It’s hot out there. Come and sing a song with me. Ant: We can’t do that. We must search for food before winter.Grasshopper: What’s wrong with winter? Let it come.Ant: The weather will be very cold and the ground will be covered with snow. There will be no food to eat.
Grasshopper: The summer is long. I shall collect food later. For now, I want to sing.
The cheerful grasshopper was singing but the hardworking ants were collecting food throughout the summer. A month later, it started to snow. Soon, the land was covered with snow. The grasshopper had no food to eat. He felt very hungry and cold. The grasshopper went to Ant’s house to ask for food.
Grasshopper: Ant, please help me. I’m cold and hungry. Please give me some food!Ant: What were doing all summer?Grasshopper: I was singing and playing. I was being irresponsible and lazy. I have learned my lesson. Please give some food!Ant: Alright then. Come in and share my food.Grasshopper: Thank you, Ant. You are very kind. The end
