Welcome to the new Administration! Dear Fellow GFWC Georgia Clubwomen, I do not have the words to express my heart felt thoughts to you as I write my rst communicaƟons as being the 20202022 GFWC Georgia State President. It is an honor and privilege to serve such wonderful clubwomen throughout the State of Georgia, while I am blessed to have you work along beside me in this new administraƟon. The date of June 6, 2020 will always be special to remember as the 20202022 GFWC Georgia Ocers were ocially installed. I must admit there were Ɵmes when installaƟon did not seem possible due to the Coronavirus, as events were postponed or cancelled but through good leadership displayed by the State, the Districts and the Clubs, unknown skills were obtained to weather the ups and downs to carry on. Today is the new “Normal” as clubs face the challenges of tomorrow, and the next day, and the next. I am thankful for the clubwomen who have stepped up to move our organizaƟon forward. The theme for my administraƟon is “Smile, MoƟvate, Inspire, Lead, Excel” (SMILE). GFWC Georgia is encouraged to use their leadership quality throughout communiƟes as they SMILE to reach that new member. GFWC Georgia will host S.M.I.L.E. Saturdays on the rst Saturday of each month and clubwomen are asked to wear a club tshirt, or a district tshirt, or GFWC shirt where they go throughout the day on that Saturday with hopes that someone will ask about your shirt to allow you to share your elevator speech regarding GFWC Georgia. Include your photos and results on Facebook and Instagram. Also, per GFWC President Marian St.Clair, GFWC is oering a monetary award of $50 to States for each new club established during this administraƟon so let’s work on our SMILES! A diamond is a chunk of coal that “did well under pressure” and to me, this describes a club woman as she is a precious gem and does her best work under pressure. Welcome to the new Administration! Dear Fellow GFWC Georgia Clubwomen,

I do not have the words to express my heart felt thoughts to you as I write my first communica ons as being the 2020‐2022 GFWC Georgia State President. It is an honor and privilege to serve such wonderful clubwomen throughout the State of Georgia, while I am blessed to have you work along beside me in this new administra on.

The date of June 6, 2020 will always be special to remember as the 2020‐2022 GFWC Georgia Officers were officially installed. I must admit there were mes when installa on did not seem possible due to the Coronavirus, as events were postponed or cancelled but through good leadership displayed by the State, the Districts and the Clubs, unknown skills were obtained to weather the ups and downs to carry on. Today is the new “Normal” as clubs face the challenges of tomorrow, and the next day, and the next. I am thankful for the clubwomen who have stepped up to move our organiza on forward.

The theme for my administra on is “Smile, Mo vate, Inspire, Lead, Excel” (SMILE). Kim’s Sensational Sidekicks Happy Summer GFWC Georgia friends! I hope you are all rested and ready for our work to get back

in full swing. I can assure you, I am and I want to thank you for entrus ng me to this new posi on.

Your District Presidents are ready to get back to work as well. What a thrill it is to be working for our

federa on with such a wonderful group of District Presidents. All their faces are familiar to you

because they are not new leaders in our organiza on, but trusted friends and proven role models. I

want to commend them, and the immediate past District Presidents, for the manner in which they

have handled the curve balls of this Covid 19 crisis. It has certainly not been a normal transi on and

we will con nue learning and adap ng as we go. They have been posi ve, resilient and have held

their sense of humor. We are all going to have a fun 2 years as we move forward! That being said, I

am proud to introduce “Kim’s Sensa onal Sidekicks”. The name is appropriate as you will see as you

read about each of them in this issue. See you all at Ins tute!

My symbol: The North West District Tree of Life: Theme: Love Grows Here Inspira on: Like branches on a tree, we all grow in different direc ons, but our roots keep us grounded together, spreading peace, love & kindness to everyone we meet because “Love Grows Here”

I am extremely excited about this new adventure and chapter in my life. I joined GFWC Georgia in 2008 and one of the many benefits of belong‐ing to GFWC is the women that I work and serve with who are kind, hard‐working and want to make their communi es a be er place to live in. If everyone thought about that as much as GFWC women, the world would be filled with peace, love, and kindness all the me. My symbol is “The North West District Tree of Life” with each branch rep‐resen ng our 14 cubs within our district. My our overall theme is “Love Grows Here” and the inspira on is “Like branches on a tree, we all grow in different direc ons, but our roots keep us grounded together, spreading peace, love & kindness to everyone we meet because “Love Grows Here.” The reason I chose the tree is because I believe the Tree and GFWC are very similar. Trees are seen as powerful symbols of growth and strength. They spread their roots deep into the soil to ground to sta‐bilize themselves so they can weather the toughest of storms. They sustain life on earth though pho‐tosynthesis I believe we sustain life on earth by generously devo ng ourselves to our communi‐

es. Trees also symbolize individuality; all are unique with their branches sprou ng at different points and in different direc ons which is similar to our personal growth through various clubs and club life experiences. Over me, trees gain more unique characteris cs, as branches break off, new ones grow and so do we. I believe there is no be er example for us, as humans, to emulate. As President, I want our members take a few lessons from trees which are to “Stay grounded, Connect with your roots, Turn over a new leaf, bend before your break, Enjoy your unique natural beauty and last but certainly not least, Keep growing.” As an administra on I want to water, branch out, change through the seasons with deeply planted roots so firm and established that no amount of wind or neg‐a ve influences can diminish our spirit. My district project is children’s chari es across our District. If we want to change the world, we need to plant seeds of kindness in our children and shine the light to focus on children’s chari es. I would like all our clubs to seek out, work, and donate to children’s chari es. Let’s inspire our children to be powered by purpose throughout their life and it begins with us because “Love Grows Here.”

I joined the GFWC Lawrenceville Woman’s Club in January 2010 and have served as Presi‐dent, Treasurer and Third Vice President of Fundraising. I am incredibly grateful to all the members of the Central East District for allowing me this opportunity to serve as the Central East District President for the next two years. For this administra on, my symbol is a Mermaid. Mermaids are mys cal but stories tell of

the good they do for others. For me, it is amazing to see how our club members work on so many successful pro‐jects to help our communi es. Some mes it is a mystery how it all comes together. The theme is “Seas” the Day! I would like for our clubs in the district to con nue to make the most of each day in our communi es. I want to focus on Communica on, Membership, Recogni on and Sharing. The scripture I have chosen is, “whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst;” John 4:14. For the District President project, I have learned that our communi es, the country, and the world have 3 main issues: homelessness, food insecurity and clean water. Water will be the focus of my project. We use water for hydra on, cooking, hygiene, and cleaning. Living organisms contain water. Water helps plants grow. It is essen al to life. But our water sources are polluted or drying up. Projects will focus on water conserva on, clean water, water scarcity and reducing harmful products from our water. In addi on to GFWC ac vi es, I am an ac ve thirty‐year member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Lawrenceville, GA; a member of Partnership Against Domes c Violence’s Gwinne Fund Development Commi ee which supports the Gwinne Shelter and currently the Treasurer and on the Board of Directors for Mariner West Owners Associa‐

on in Panama City Beach, FL. I am a na ve Atlantan, happily married to Mario and proud single mom of two grown sons. I have worked in adver sing, public rela ons, at broadcast sta‐

ons and medical recrui ng as an Office Manager, Senior Accountant, Assis‐tant Controller, and Controller. In my spare me, I design and make jewelry, enjoy yoga and trips to the beach. I am excited for this new journey and the members that have agreed to be a part of the board. My apprecia on also goes out to my family for their love and support, especially my husband, Mario. Lastly but just as important, to my Club members, for your support and encouragement, words cannot ex‐press my apprecia on for each of you! Again, thank you for this opportunity!! It’s going to be Mermazing!

Central West District – PRESIDENT Patricia D. Busby Hello GFWC Georgia! I am honored to represent the Central West District of Georgia. The district is comprised of 13 clubs, made up of many vital, independent women who are com‐mi ed to causes across the community, the US, and the world. These women can be de‐scribed as amazing and I am delighted to be counted among these numbers and the numbers of GFWC. I am a re red teacher, having taught for 45 years, truly enjoying every day. For the last 5 years, I was coordinator of Mercer University’s program, known as Mercer Youth University. The students and faculty were a joy. We learned and laughed every day and the students were encouraged to visit and share their successes with Ms. Pat. On the last day of the program the students begged to wind different‐colored yarn through my hair! Of course, I joined in on the fun and promised to sport my colorful hair style. Naturally, pictures were made. However, they are not available upon request! I was born and raised in Tennessee so my voice is a mixture of Tennessee twang and Georgia drawl! My incredible sons were born in Georgia and fortunately, we all live near each other. I have been blessed with two beau ful grandsons, Thatcher and O o who are 4 and 2. Of course, they can do no wrong in grandmama’s eyes! They love popup books and trains, trains, and more trains. I have been a member of GFWC for over 20 years, star ng off as a member of a junior club. I met so many wonderful women and learned so much about volunteer work. My mother was a dedicated volunteer as well and I tried to follow in her footsteps. I was able to have my installa on on March 14, just before the pandemic caused the extensive “Stay in place.” Shel‐by Holland honored me by installing all of the Central West District officers. I am thrilled to have all of the officers work‐ing with me to con nue the work of the district. My symbol is the hummingbird, a ny bird that makes me smile every me I see one. They are magical creatures who have characteris cs that are similar to those of a volunteer. Their wings can beat up to 80 miles per second, moving at the speed of a woman on a mission. Just like a member of GFWC, the hummingbird moves forwards, backwards, hovers up and down, goes from flying full speed to an instant stop. Reminds you of members who have many projects going on at the same me and are constantly reevalua ng and improving. When you are red or lonely, this ny bird brings a sense of hope and joy. The efforts of GFWC Georgia bring hope and joy to their many unselfish acts such as dona ons of food, clothing, books, shoes and countless other projects. We support causes such as awareness of domes c vio‐lence and breast cancer research. It has been difficult to meet with the officers during these days of social distancing, but with the help of social media, we have managed. My project for my administra on is “Au sm Awareness: Thatcher’s Journey.” Au sm is a developmental disorder that causes problems with communica on. The child struggles to express himself. Thatcher has speech, physical, and occupa onal therapy. He is making amazing progress. I have asked the district to educate themselves and others and to look for ways in which they can help. April is Au sm Awareness Month and the wearing of blue is encouraged. I have met the other district presidents who are all congenial women and I can’t wait to begin this incredible journey with them. At this me, I would like to thank eve‐ryone for their assistance and dedica on to our volunteer work and look forward to good mes and successes. Thank you to the Central West District for allowing me to serve. “If you believe you can, you are halfway there.”  Pat Busby Central West District

South East District -PRESIDENT Hilda Hagarty

I am a rela ve newcomer to GFWC, having joined the GFWC Brunswick Woman’s Club in 2015 shortly a er returning to Georgia. I served as the club president from 2016‐2018 and then inherited the District Presidency in late 2018. So, here I go for another round as the South East District President.

A na ve of Cochran, I am a re red social studies teacher from Virginia. Married for almost 47 years to my husband, Jim, we are the parents of a daughter, Caitlin, who is a financial/business analyst for an Italian coffee company. We also have two small fur babies, Mid‐night and Danny.

The symbol for my administra on is an anchor. The anchor has long been a symbol of strength, safety, and hope, first by the early Chris ans, and then, by those associated with the water. It is also special to me as it has been a symbol of most of my adult life as the spouse of a Naval Officer. The theme of my administra on is “Anchored by GFWC: God, Family, Women, Country.” Using the abbrevia‐

on for our federa on, I chose those en es that anchor me and probably a lot of others in our organiza on. First and foremost, God to whom all honor is given and from whom all blessings flow, Family – the founda on from which we spring and the glue that keeps us going, Women – all those pioneers yesterday and today who have and do work relessly for the benefit of all people and communi es, and Country – the remarkable union we call the United States that has afforded many freedoms and opportuni es to all who wish to partake. The inspira ons for my administra on are two, one a Bible verse and another an anonymous saying.

“This hope we have as an anchor for the soul, both sure and steadfast.” – (Hebrews 6:19) “Life’s roughest storms prove the strength of our anchors.” – Anonymous

The District President’s Project will be “Helping Our Veterans.” Those who have worn the uniforms of our na‐

on’s military hold a special place in my heart, as the spouse and the daughter of a veteran. For the next two years, we will work as a District and as individuals to help and honor those brave men and women. Beginning with our Fall 2020 Mee ng, we will be honoring our member veterans for their service and recognizing those mem‐bers whose family members have served in our na on’s military. And at each of our District Mee ngs, we will honor those brave service members who made the ul mate sacrifice and did not return to their families with a “Missing Man Table.”

I look forward to working with the great group of caring women in the South East District and the State as we make our communi es be er places for all our ci zens.

It is an honor to serve as the new North East District President. I have been in club work since 1981, when I joined Stone Mountain Woman's Club. Volunteering gives me a special connec on to my mother and grandmother, as they were both volunteers. I con nue my service since 2015 with Gainesville Phoenix Woman's Club. I have chosen Stars as my symbol. Stars symbolize inspira on, imagina on, dreams, magic and guidance. Stars shine brightest in the darkness. And our 11 clubs shine as they show crea vity and ingenuity. Goals of this administra on focus on membership in a variety of ways. New members are an emphasis and we cannot forget friendship, which is a wonderful byproduct of spending me together in service. Next, a focus is member support across the clubs illustrated by visi ng each other’s special events, support within our clubs, which has already begun with daily inspira ons, emailing adventure experiences and phone trees. Also, Leadership is an important part of mem‐bership and a key to the health of this organiza on and so we will provide opportuni es big and small to learn and grow, as we have begun to do with leadership zoom mee ngs. Finally, edu‐ca on and raising awareness of all members on GFWC past, present and future . As we work on these goals we have adjusted in difficult mes with crea ve projects like a pop up li le library in the back of an SUV and collec ng items from members front porches to make goody bags for medical staff, cafeteria workers and bus drivers. And projects have begun for Camp Sunshine, camp for kids with cancer, our district project. North East District is 283 members strong. We may be small but we are noteworthy. Within our boundaries we hold Tallulah Falls School, which houses our GFWC GEORGIA state office. We can boast winners for the last 3 years of Georgia Leads representa ves to GFWC. And we are very proud of our leadership at all levels.

With excitement, I look forward to these 2 years as we * Dream Big * Sparkle More * Shine Bright *

PARLIAMENTARY TIPS Brenda Martin, Parliamentary Advisor

It is my pleasure to serve as the 2020‐2022 Parliamentary Advisor. I am available to assist any of you when needed. Please feel free to call or email with any ques ons you may have and I will do my best to get you an answer to your ques on. This first ar cle comes from GFWC News and Notes and Parliamentarian Deen J. Meloro. Hopefully some of you have read this but just in case, this is my reminder that each club, district, etc. should consider re‐viewing their By‐laws since the future is unknown to us. Past Interna onal President Mary Ellen Brock, gave her permission to clubs to use methods not specified in their by‐laws to achieve the year‐ending ac vi es. Robert’s Rules of Order, Newly Revised, states that “ac ons of any delibera ve body are also subject to applicable procedural rules prescribed by local, state, or na onal law and would be null and void if in viola on of such law.” Since we were prohibited from mee ng and the Interna onal President had given her permission, clubs could use electronic means to vote and meet. Therefore, since our future is not known, below are two sugges ons you might want to consider for your club or district bylaws:

Sec on 1. Dear Georgia Juniors and fellow club sisters, I am very excited to serve as the 2020-2022 Director of Jr. Clubs for the State of Ga and look forward to these next two years. It is such an honor to be partnered with our state presi-dent Shelby Holland. As we focus on the new vision for 2020-2022 and the Federation, “Shine bright like a Diamond” as we “Smile”, continue to serve others and “Be Kind”. My theme is Be Kind! My special project is Mental Health and Invisible Disabilities Awareness. We will be partnering with NAMI -National Alliance on Mental Illness, and Georgia Rehabilitation Association. My symbol is the Calla Lily, and the Tallulah Falls Jun-ior Project is “Rehabbing the Steinway”! On Friday evening at Institute there will be a reception hosted by North East District. Be sure to attend. It will be an event you won’t want to miss. We will have a Jr. Conference Ex-ecutive Board meeting after those events on Friday.

The Georgia Junior 4 state challenges are: 1. Collecting outside toys, art Supplies, and indoor games for the children of the domestic vio-

lence shelters of Ga. This is a much needed project for those centers in Georgia. 2. Support NAMI with $10.00 gift cards (any type) for participant participation, and promotion of

NAMI. 3. Promote mental health-invisible disabilities awareness. Ideas of interest are purchasing

books, t-shirts and other items, promoting events, and creating projects toward removing the stigma.

4. Promotion of Learning disabilities and Assisting Georgia Rehabilitation Association with their special projects, such as building ramps for needy families, scholarships for LD students, and assisting those with disabilities with varied expenses/items needed for their limitations.

Please shop our General and Junior fundraisers! We will have some great items for you to pick from and possibly to win! Ladies, I look forward to seeing, learning, and being with you.. But most of all, lets have fun! Your Federated Sister, Dana Paige Skelton GFWC Georgia Director of Jr. Clubs 2020-2022 #GAJuniorsRock

A Further “Day of Learning” – Tour of Atlanta History Center

Sunday will be a further day of learning in a relaxed, self-paced atmosphere. Following break-fast on your own and checkout, clubwomen will travel less than 8 miles to connect with Art, Envi-ronment and Civic Engagement areas to experience award-winning exhibitions as they tour the Atlanta History Center. Your ticket price includes the Atlanta History Center, the 33-acre Goizuetta Gardens, the Swan House and the Margaret Mitchell House. The tour times are from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with the Swan House opening at 1:00 p.m. A highlight you will want to visit is the second floor of the Swan House to experience the travel-ling exhibition “Any Great Change: The Centennial of the 19th Amendment”. This exhibition ex-plores the decades-long struggle for women’s suffrage. If you have ever had “Scarlet Fever”, the Margaret Mitchell House, located 5 miles south of the Atlanta History Center, is known as being the “Birthplace of Gone with the Wind” and is listed as number 36 out of 273 for things to do while in Atlanta. Address is 979 Crescent Avenue, NE, Atlanta, GA 30309. Tour times begin at 12 noon. Please note face coverings are required for guests in all indoor locations.

Since an email to the club president’s concerning an honorarium for Stephen Bowman, the TFS student who lost his life in a drowning accident. We have learned that Tallulah Falls School has set up a perpetual scholarship. They are hoping, we the women of GFWC GA, will contribute to the scholarship in his memory to help reach the $2,000 goal. Please send your checks to TFS, PO Box 10, Tallulah Falls, GA 30573 and indícate for the “Stephen Bowman Perpetual Scholarship”. Stephen was awarded his diploma at last week’s TFS gradua on ceremony. His parents accepted the diploma. The Seniors held a candlelight ceremony hon‐oring his memory and at gradua on they presented his parents with a red rose from each of them. A fireworks display ended the ceremony and instead of giving the graduates an ink pen GFWC GA gave $1000 toward the celebra on. As Tina Daniel said, “going out with a bang.”
